长城要加the是因为长城是独一无二的，而且最早为外国人所知晓。
如果长城the great wall不加the的话，就变成great wall,而在世界上被称为“伟大的墙”的墙太多了，如耶路撒冷的圣墙等等，所以为了防止混淆，所以加上the，特指中国的万里长城。
长城位于中国的北部，它东起河北省渤海湾的山海关，西至内陆地区甘肃省的嘉峪关。横贯河北、北京、内蒙古、山西、陕西、宁夏、甘肃等七个省、市、自治区，明长城总长度为8851.8千米，秦汉及早期长城超过1万千米，总长超过2.1万千米。故在世上有“万里长城”之誉。
A Chinese saying goes like that, "The man who has never go to the Great Wall is not a true man. " The Great Wall, one of the greatest wonders of the world, was enlisted in the World Heritage in 1987. Just like a gigantic dragon, it winds up and down across deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus stretching approximately 8，800 kilometers from east to west in Ming Dynasty of China, and in Qin or Han Dynasty , it is more than 10,000 kilometers,and it more than 21,000 kilometres over all. With a history of more than 2000 years, some sections are now in ruins or even entirely disappeared. However, it is still one of the most appealing attractions all around the world owing to its architectural grandeur and historical significance.
