Any 25th birthday is a cause for celebration. But it was even more so for Janus, a two-headed Greek tortoise (龟). Living in the Natural History Museum of Geneva, Switzerland, Janus is now believed to be the world’s oldest two-headed tortoise. The museum celebrated the special occasion with a day-long party filled with fun events, which included taking photos with the birthday “boy”.
In the wild, Greek tortoises can live up to two hundred years in their natural habitat. However, two-headed tortoises, like Janus, usually do not survive for that long. Unlike normal tortoises, they are unable to take back their two heads into their shell, making them highly easy to be attacked.
Janus, who has spent his entire life in the museum, faces no such danger. But life is not without challenges for the two-headed tortoise who also has two hearts and two pair s of lungs. Each head controls the front and back legs on its side of the body. The right head is more curious and more awake. The left head is more passive and loves to eat. This can lead to confusion when the two heads decide to go in different directions. To make matters worse, the two heads frequently rub against each other, resulting in skin sores (溃疡). Janus also has a hard time rolling back onto his feet when he accidentally turns over. If left on their backs for too long, tortoises can get sunburned, dehydrated (脱水的) and even die.
Fortunately, Janus has a special caregiver, Angelica Bourgoin, to make sure he lives along and health y life. The tortoise receives a daily massage and is bathed in green tea and flower water. He eats a special diet of organic fruits and vegetables, keeps active with walks, and rides on his custom skateboard. With such loving care, the two-headed tortoise will surely continue to break many more records for long life.
24. Why is it hard for two-headed tortoises to survive in the wild

B. They can’t find enough food to eat.
C. They can’t hide from their enemies.
D. They can’t run as fast as normal ones.

A. Different decisions. B. The death of thirst.
C. The pain on his skin. D. Two halves of body.
27. Which of the following can best describe Janus’s life
A. Free. B. Tough. C. Boring. D. Easy.

Mounting evidence suggests that longtime sitting — a main part of modern-day life — is risky to your health, even if you exercise regularly. Based on these findings, doctors advise all adults to sit less and move more. But how often do we need to get up from our chairs And for how long
Few studies have compared multiple options to come up with the answer most office workers want: What is the least amount of activity needed to counteract the health effects of a workday filled with sitting
Now a study by Columbia University exercise physiologists has an answer. Unlike other studies that test one or two activity options, the study tested five different exercise “snacks”, or short bursts of activity after a period of time’s sitting: one minute of walking after every 30 minutes of sitting, one minute after 60 minutes, five minutes every 30, five minutes every 60 and no walking.
The proper amount of movement, the researchers found, was five minutes of walking every 30 minutes. This was the only amount that greatly lowered both blood sugar and blood pressure. In addition, this walking routine had an impressive effect on how the participants responded to large meals, reducing blood sugar spikes (峰值) by 58% compared with sitting all day. Taking a walking break every 30 minutes for one minute also provided modest benefits for blood sugar levels throughout the day, while walking every 60 minutes, either for one minute or five minutes, provided no benefit.
What we know now is that for best health, you need to move regularly at work, in addition to a daily exercise routine. While that may sound impractical, the findings show that even small amounts of walking spread through the work day can greatly lower your risk of heart disease and other chronic (慢性的) illnesses.
28. What does the study by Columbia University focus on
A. What adults should do to keep exercising regularly.
B. When and where we need to sit less and move more.
C. Why longtime sitting every day is risky to our health.
D. How often and how long we need to walk from our chairs.
29. What does the underlined word “counteract” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Cancel out. B. Give up. C. Add to. D. Benefit from.
30. Which walking pattern is the most useful for health according to the text
A. One minute of walking after every 30 minutes of sitting.
B. Five minutes of walking after every 30 minutes of sitting.
C. One minute of walking after every 60 minutes of sitting.
D. Five minutes of walking after every 60 minutes of sitting.
31. What does the last paragraph show
A. The risks of heart disease and other illnesses.
B. The daily exercise routine suitable for everyone.
C. The suggestions on the health of the office staff.
D. The ways of moving regularly at work every day.

Chinese astronauts entered a new laboratory that arrived at the country’s orbiting space station in 2022. The Wentian lab module (舱) launched Sunday aboard a Long March-5B Y3 rocket from a Chinese space center on the southern island of Hainan, official media reported in 2022. The flight lasted 13 hours. The module is the second of three that will complete the country’s Tiangong space station.
Chinese officials said they expected the space station to be fully operational by the end of 2022. Three Chinese astronauts who began a six-month stay on the space station in June oversaw the Wentian lab’s arrival and connection to the main module. The orbiting labs are designed to permit astronauts to carry out scientific and biological experiments and test new technologies.
Fully completed, the station is designed to house up to six astronauts at a time. The astronauts aboard the space station included commander Chen Dong and team members Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe.
Hours after the arrival of the module, state broadcaster CCTV showed video of the astronaut s floating inside the new lab. CCTV described the launch and linking operation as “a complete success”. China’s state-run Global Times newspaper reported that the 23-ton Wentian lab is heavier than any other single module spacecraft currently in space. The module serves as the main entry and exit point for future space vehicle activities.
The completed Tiangong structure is about one-fifth the size of the International Space Station (ISS), Reuters news agency reported. The space station project marks the latest step forward for China’s space program.
Previously, China successfully landed a spacecraft on Mars. The Tianwen-1 spacecraft carried a robotic explorer, called Zhurong. The explorer, or rover, is expected to measure atmospheric conditions and magnetic forces during its search for signs of ancient life on Mars.
32. What does Global Times newspaper stress about the module
A. Its heavy body. B. Its unique shape.
C. Its great success. D. Its high quality.
33. What is the author’s attitude towards China’s space station project
A. Grateful. B. Positive. C. Cautious. D. Doubtful.
34. What does the last paragraph talk about
A Major discoveries on Mars. B. Bad living conditions on Mars.
C. Another space exploration project. D. People’s interest in Mars exploration.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. China — Leading Space Exploration
B. Chinese Astronauts’ Life on Space Station
C. Chinese Space Station — Smaller than the ISS
D. Chinese New Laboratory Sent to Space Station

As Mom and I stood in line waiting to cash out at the store, I studied the customer in front of us who was reading the magazines to our left. She was young, maybe early twenties, but she already had a tired look with a slight stoop (驼背).
The items in her cart included the cheapest cuts of meat and meal like pasta, rice, and potatoes. Day-old bread, bargain soap, and inexpensive shampoo completed her purchases, well, almost. In the corner sat a toy car and a pretty dress that was 50 percent off. She continued to look at the magazines as we waited, and more people lined up behind us. She turned around and asked Mom for help.
“I’m sorry to bother you,” she began shyly. “But can you tell me how much this is I forgot my glasses at home.”
“Of course,” Mom said.
When Mom finally found the small print and told her, she sighed quietly and put it back.
“They’ve become so expensive, haven’t they ” Mom said in a low voice.
“Next!” The cashier called and she moved forward.
When the store employee finally added up everything and told her the cost, the woman’s face paled. It was obvious that she didn’t have enough money, and she scanned her items to see what she could do without.
One by one, she removed things, but she still came up short. She continued to take much-needed goods out while the cashier patiently deducted (扣除) things with a pleasant smile.
The child’s items remained in the cart, however. In fact, the palm of her other hand lay protectively across them, as if she didn’t want to give in.
The woman finally paid, and moved down to bag them.
When our turn came, Mom pointed to the pile of items the woman had taken out, added all our meat and fresh milk, and whispered “Separate bags, same bill please” to the cashier. She nodded, even though it was a “pack your own” kind of store.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The cashier went on with her work and Mom moved next to the woman.

A. They can’t avoid biting each other.
B. They can’t find enough food to eat.
C. They can’t hide from their enemies.
D. They can’t run as fast as normal ones.
25. Where was Janus born
A. In the museum. B. In a pet store.
C. In the ocean. D. In Bourgoin’s home.
26. What will be Janus’s biggest threat if he’s left alone on its back
A. Different decisions. B. The death of thirst.
C. The pain on his skin. D. Two halves of body.
27. Which of the following can best describe Janus’s life
A. Free. B. Tough. C. Boring. D. Easy.
【答案】24. C 25. A 26. B 27. D

【答案】28. D 29. A 30. B 31. C

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】参考范文:
The cashier went on with her work and Mom moved next to the woman. She was wondering how to put the extra things into the woman’s cart she’d brought without being noticed. My mom looked up at the cashier and the clever cashier immediately nodded knowingly, winking at my mom and solving the problem by “accidentally” dropping several oranges which flew past the lady. “I’ll get those,” the woman offered kindly to pick up the runaway fruit. I quickly finished our plan as she turned around and bent to pick up the oranges.
When she turned back and was about to leave, she found the extra bag in her cart. She looked at my mom in surprise. “How can I accept this ” she said, handing it to my mother. “It’s nothing. That’s what all of us should do,” my mom replied warmly and firmly. Seeing all this, people around her began to persuade her to take back these items. Finally, with everyone’s help, she took the bag in tears. It was at that moment that I realized we make a living by getting, but we make a life by giving.
