It was my first day of sixth grade. I looked at my schedule and saw that I had Mrs.Foxwell's classes and this made me happy. Over the next three years, Mrs. Foxwell taught me many important things that I will never forget. Of all of the teachers and coaches I have had in my life, Mrs. Foxwell has been my favorite leader.
Mrs. Foxwell is one of the most respected people I know. She is always kind to everyone and she treats others the way that she wants to be treated. She taught me respect in many different ways, but mainly how to be respectful in the business world. She told me that I needed to have a firm handshake and that I should always look people in the eye when I talked to them. Mrs. Foxwell also taught me that I could earn someone's respect by working hard to achieve my goals.
In addition to working at Brandy wine Springs School, Mrs. Foxwell once worked at a bank as a manager but she gave that up to teach kids how to be successful. Mrs. Foxwell told our class that she would cry because of the amount of work she had to do in very little time. She told our class that working all night at something we don't love is very stressful, so we should try and do something we love. In the end, she taught me that I have to keep my head high and pull through difficulties. I don't think I have ever worked as hard in any class as I did in her class. I created my own 28-page business plan to share with her, my parents, other teachers and my classmates. Although creating a business from nothing was a lot of hard work, I really enjoyed it and learned several lessons that will help me throughout life.
I have had a lot of role models in my life, but one of the greatest ones is Eva Foxwell. She taught me leadership qualities, how to be respectful and why I should work hard. She changes my life for the better and I desire to be like her.

Praising your child may do more harm than good Psychologists say"empty"praise makes them unhappy.
Praising children with phrases such as "well done, darling"may hurt their confidence,a leading psychologist Stephen Grosz has warned. He says that praise such as "you're so clever"or "you're such an artist" could also hinder their future performance at school. He says that such empty praise causes children to be unhappy as they may say they can't live up to(不辜负)the false expectations.
Instead, he advises parents and teachers to give praise less often and use phrases that congratulate children for "trying really hard". Mr. Grosz says,"Empty praise is as bad as thoughtless criticism—it expresses indifference(冷漠,不关心)to the child's feelings and thoughts."He also mentions the research showing that children who are heavily praised are likely to perform worse at school. Some psychologists from Columbia University asked 128pupils aged 10 and l1 to solve a number of maths problems. Afterwards, some were told,"You did really well—you're so clever."But the researchers told the other group,"You did really well—you must have tried really hard."Both groups of children were then given more difficult questions and those who had been told they were clever did not do as well as the others.
He says that when picking up his daughter from a kindergarten near their home in North London, he heard a teacher tell her,"You have drawn the most beautiful tree. Well done."Later, after she had done another drawing, the same teacher said,"Wow, you are really an artist.”In his book, Mr. Grosz writes,"My heart sank. How could I tell the teacher that I would prefer it if she did not praise my daughter "
As a parent of two grown-up children, I am strongly for Grosz. I praise them when praising is proven right. I want them to know if I praise them, they must have done something beyond my expectation, and beyond what they are capable of doing.
28.What does the underlined word "hinder"in paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Hold back.B.Lead to.C.Get through.D. Come up with.

B.It will make children fall behind since they are proud.
C. It may cause children to work harder without plans.
D. It is equal to criticism without giving consideration.
30.Why does Mr. Grosz give an example in paragraph 4
A. To show his pride in his daughter.
B. To show his daughter's drawing ability.
C. To express his disagreement with the teacher.
D.To show his satisfaction with his daughter's teacher.
31.What is the author's attitude towards Stephen Grosz's opinion
A.Supportive.B.Indifferent.C.Doubtful.D.Critical.

Cars could soon be communicating with each other using 5G to make drivers aware of upcoming hazards(危险), scientists say. The extremely fast mobile internet would allow for rapid information transmission and could make drivers aware of black ice, pot holes or other dangers up ahead.
Several car manufacturers(制造商)are already using 5G in their vehicles, including as a tool to help serve in the generation of self-driving vehicles.
Experts at Glasgow Caledonian University(GCU)believe the high-speed connection will also improve the reliability and capability of automated vehicles to the point where they will be safer than the manual cars being driven today. They predict the number of road traffic accidents, which according to the World Health Organization account for more than 1.3million deaths and up to 50 million people injured worldwide every year, will drop really as a result.
Dr Dimitrios Liarokapis, a member of the research group, said,"To have a better idea of what the future will look like, think of having such cars that not only use sensors to scan what's around them, they can also talk to each other and exchange safety-related information about their surroundings over an area that covers several square miles. With the help of 5G, avehicle-generated early warning system that reminds drivers is possible within the next few years. Cars that are close enough to the danger area will transmit warning messages to other cars around them using short-range communication technologies, but also to cars further away using 5G, fast and reliably."
A few manufacturers are already working on connected cars. Of them, Ford told its intention to fit 80 percent of its future vehicles with technology that warns drivers about upcoming road accidents, bad weather and traffic jams.
32. What is the benefit of 5G mentioned in the text

A.It can get information several miles ahead.
B.It is under research and development at present.
C.It has been proved extremely helpful for driving.
D.It will send messages to drivers a few days earlier.
34.What will be probably continued with the text
A. Some safety rules when using 5G. B. Some car manufacturers.
C. The sales information of cars with 5G. D.The advantages when using 5G.
35.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A.5G Leaves Drivers Free When They Are Driving

Once, when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for the circus(马戏团). Finally, there was only one family between us and the ticket counter.
This family made a big impression on me. There were eight children, all probably under the age of twelve. You could tell they didn't have a lot of money. Their clothes were not expensive, but they were clean. The children were well-behaved, all of them standing in line,two-by-two behind their parents, holding hands. They were excitedly talking about the clowns, elephants, and other acts they would see that night with their brothers or sisters in a low voice.
One could sense they had never been to the circus before. It promised to be highlight of their young lives. The father and mother were at the head of the pack, standing proud as could be. The mother was holding her husband's hand, looking up at him as if to say,"You are my knight in shining armor."
The father was smiling and responding in pride, looking back at her as if to say,"You got that right."The ticket lady asked the father how many tickets he wanted. He proudly responded,"Please let me buy eight children tickets and two adult tickets so I can take my family to the circus."
The ticket lady gave the price. The mother let go of her husband's hand, her head dropped. The father's lips began to shake and leaned a little closer and asked,"How much did you say "
The ticket lady again quoted the price. The man didn't have enough money
How was he supposed to turn and tell his eight children that he didn't have enough money to take them to the circus
Actually we were not wealthy in any sense. So I understand how the kids would feel. Ifelt sorry for them.
