1. Mario, you used to be short, didn’t you (教材P25)
used to do sth. “过去常常做某事”, 表示过去经常性或习惯性的动作或状态,暗指现在已经不存在了,强调过去与现在的对比。
e.g. Mr. Li used to go to school by bike.
李老师过去常常骑自行车去学校。

be used to do sth. 被用来做某事
e.g. This kind of bamboo is used to make paper.
这种竹子是用来做纸的。

Mario, you used to be short, didn’t you 这句话用到了反义疑问句。
反义疑问句指的是在陈述句之后加上一个意思与之相反的简短问句,用以向对方证实所叙述的事情的句子。
反义疑问句必须由意思相反的两部分组成,在前一部分(陈述句)之后用逗号,后一部分(简短问句)之后用问号。
反义疑问句的否定句必须用缩略形式,同时它的主语必须用人称代词,不能用名词。
反义疑问句有下面两类:
前一部分为肯定式,后一部分是否定式。
前一部分是否定式,后一部分是肯定式。
在使用反义疑问句时需要注意:
1. 陈述句和简短问句在人称、数和时态上必须保持一致,且简短
问句的主语必须为代词。
e.g. Tom let us come into the room, didn’t he
Tom让我们进入房间,是吗?
2. 陈述部分含有nothing, never, hardly, little等表示否定意义的词
简短问句要用肯定形式。
e.g. He has never been to Hong Kong, has he
他从没去过香港,对吗?
2. What’s he like now (教材P25)
What’s sb. like 的意思是“某人什么样?”,它常用来提问人的性格、品质等,也可用来提问人的相貌。
【拓展】
当用于提问人的相貌时What’s sb. like =What does sb. look
like 但是What does sb. look like 不能用来提问人的品格、品质。
询问某人喜欢什么时用“What does sb. like ”。
3. This party is such a great idea! (教材P26)
such det. “如此,这么”, 用于名词或名词短语前表示强调。
e.g. That’s such a good film.
那部电影真不错。
It seems like such a long way to drive for just one day.
一天之内要开这么远的路好像不太可能。
such的常用搭配有:
such + a /an + adj. + 单数名词
such + adj. + pl. / 不可数名词
such ... that从句
e.g. I never knew you were such a good dancer.
我从来都不知道你是一个这么棒的舞者。
I really admire people who can work in such difficult conditions.
我很钦佩那些能在如此艰苦条件下工作的人。
It was such a small room that the bed only just fit.
那个房间实在太小了,刚够放进去一张床。
e.g. I’m happy to have such a wonderful teacher.
我很高兴有一个这么棒的老师。
The house is so beautiful.
这栋房子太漂亮了!
4. It’s been three years since we last saw our primary school classmates.(教材P26)
这是一个由since引导的时间状语从句。since是连接时间状语从句的从属连词,意思是“自从......,从......以来”。在这个句子中,主句用到了现在完成时,从句用到了一般过去时。
e.g. He hasn’t won a game since last year.
他自去年起就再没有赢过比赛。
It was the hottest October since records began.
这是有史以来最热的十月。
【拓展】
since作连词还可以表示“因为;既然”。
e.g. Since we’ve got a few minutes to wait for the train,
let’s have a cup of coffee.
既然等火车还需要几分钟,我们去喝杯咖啡吧。
5. I used to see him reading in the library every day.

6. He studied hard and got good scores on his exams.
(教材P26)
get good scores = get good grades意思是“取得好成绩”。score既可以作动词也可以作名词,意思是“分数;得分”。
e.g. Jane got 95 scores in the test. = Jane scored 95 in the test.
Jane在考试中得了95分。
The student is telling us how he got good scores.
这名学生正在给我们讲述他是如何取得好成绩的。
