Extended reading
Smartphone: a smart choice
Learning Aims:
By the end of the section, students will be able to:
1. find out how Alan’s life changed after he stopped using his smartphone;
2. reflect on what they would do if they had to live without a smartphone for a week;
3. Write a short passage suggesting students putting down their smartphones, and enjoying the life.
Learning important points:
Consider how they should use smartphones in their life;
2. To raise awareness of cutting back on the use of smartphones.
Teaching Procedures :
Step 1 Lead-in
The teacher has a free talk with students about smartphones after sharing a short video.

Step 2 Before reading
The teacher has students read the title of the blog “Smartphone: a smart choice ” written by Alan and answer the following questions.

Fast reading
The teacher has students read the blog post quickly, and have them analyse the structure.

Intensive reading
Part 1:T has Ss read Paras. 1-2 and answer the following questions:
