【例句】
1. I think (that) math is difficult.
She said (that) she would leave a note on the desk.
【结论】
陈述句作宾语时,宾语从句用that引导。that只起连接作用,没有实际意义,在从句中不充当成分,因此常可省略。
(1) 由that引导的宾语从句
宾语从句结构I:
主语+谓语动词+that+宾从(肯定句、否定句)

that,它在句中无词义,在从句中不做成分,在非正式文体中可以省略
(2)由if / whether引导的宾语从句
宾语从句结构II:
主语+谓语动词+ whether/if+宾从(一般疑问句,陈述语序)
宾语从句的连词
whether/if 表示“是否”,不可省略
由于if和whether连接的句子在语义上是一般疑问句或选择疑问句,要注意把从句语序改为陈述句语序。主+谓
把下面两个句子改为含有宾语从句的复合句。
1. Is Jim a good student I don't know.
2. Does Kate get up early Do you know
I don't know whether/if Jim is a good student..
Do you know whether/if Kate gets up early
练一练
一般来说,在宾语从句中if与whether可以互换使用。但在特殊情况下,两者不能互换。
只能用whether,不能用if引导的情况:
1) 在介词的后面
e.g. I’m thinking of whether we should go to see the film.
2) 与or not直接连用
e.g. I don’t know whether or not they can get there on time.
I don’t know whether or not he will come.
如果or not放在whether所引导的从句句尾,可用if 替换。
I don’t know whether/if he will come or not.
注意whether和if的使用区别
a.当whether后紧跟or not时,不用if.
b.介词后面的宾语从句不能用if.
I worry about whether I hurt her feelings.
He asked me whether I wanted to go there by train or by bus.
c.在强调任意选择时,用whether…or,此时不用 if 替换whether。
Whether he will come I am not sure.
注意whether和if的使用区别
d. 虽引导宾语从句,但为了强调宾语部分,也可把从句放在句首,此时只用whether不用if。
e.句子中有if 引导的条件句,如再有表示“是否”的宾语从句,用whether不用if。
He asked me whether I’d move to New York if I got the job.
f. 如果宾语从句为否定句时,则只用if不用 whether。
I don’t know if it won't rain tomorrow.
“ Do you like the song ” she asks.
She asks whether/if I like the song.
Tom said. He is reading a book.
Tom said that he was reading a book.
