Objective:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to introduce themselves using the structure “I’m [name] and I’m [age] years old” and ask and answer questions about age.
Language skills:
Speaking: Introducing oneself and asking/answering questions about age.
Listening: Understanding and responding to questions about age.
Materials:
Whiteboard/markers or PowerPoint slides.
Pictures of people of different ages.
Handout with conversation practice exercises.
Audio recording or video clip for listening activity.
Procedure:
Warm-up :
Greet the students and start a conversation with them about their favorite hobbies, sports, or activities.
Ask a few students to introduce themselves briefly by saying their names and ages, modeling the target language structure.
Presentation :
Display pictures of people of different ages on the board or on slides.
Point to each picture and ask questions like, “How old is this person ” and elicit responses from the students.
Introduce the target sentence structure: “I’m [name] and I’m [age] years old.” Write it on the board or display it on slides.
Model the sentence structure by introducing yourself as an example: “I’m [your name] and I’m [your age] years old.”
Repeat the sentence structure with a few more examples using the pictures of people of different ages.
Practice :
Divide the class into pairs or small groups.
Distribute the handout with conversation practice exercises.
Instruct students to take turns asking and answering questions about age using the target sentence structure.
Monitor the students’ conversations and provide assistance as needed.
After sufficient practice, ask a few pairs/groups to share their conversations with the whole class.
Listening :
Play an audio recording or show a video clip featuring different people introducing themselves and stating their ages.
Ask students to listen carefully and write down the names and ages they hear.
Play the recording or clip again, if necessary.
Collect the students’ answers and discuss them together as a class.
Production:
Have the students work individually to create their own short dialogues using the target sentence structure.
Encourage them to be creative and include different names and ages in their dialogues.
After completing their dialogues, ask a few students to volunteer and present them to the class.
Wrap-up :
Review the target sentence structure and ask a few students to introduce themselves using the structure.
Summarize the key points of the lesson and ask if any students have questions.
