阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A, B, C和D项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

I had always wanted to read Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser because I thought it would be interesting to find out what makes fast food taste so great. But what I read startled me. Fast-food employees admitted they saw food that had dropped on the floor being served. They also admitted that some food even had spit on it.
Schlosser also describes the environment of a slaughterhouse(屠宰场)he visited in Nebraska. He describes a worker’s job that is to shoot cows for eight hours. The slaughterhouse has blood that is ankle deep and the dead cows are hung in the air before being carved(切开).
Schlosser also explains how fast food attracts young children by giving away toys with meals and airing ads on Saturday mornings. I realize that he is totally right because I remember that I used to buy Happy Meals based on what toys they were offering. When McDonald’s restaurants were giving out Beanie Babies as toys, my mom took me there every day so I could collect them all. When I was 7, I liked going to another McDonald’s that had a really cool train display. I realize that the train was another factor that drew me back to McDonald’s.
Even though fast food chains will probably never disappear, I believe anyone who reads the book will think twice before eating fast food. Now I don’t eat fast food as often. I have been eating more seafood to lose weight. But once or twice a month when I’m out with my friends, we’ll eat at a fast food restaurant. The hamburger and fries still taste good. But when I’m down to the last bite, I remember what goes into making it and I regret eating it.

September is an exciting month in every college freshman’s life. For many, it’s the first time that they’ve left home to live in a new environment. But after the hustle and bustle of a few weeks, excitement gives way to a less enjoyable emotion— homesickness.
Homesickness manifests itself in many ways. You may miss mum’s cooking, your pets, or even your old bed. All this becomes a fond memory of the past. Homesickness can be a bitter feeling for many students, especially when faced with the challenges of settling into an unfamiliar environment.
But remember, you’re not alone. According to a recent BBC article, 70 percent of British college students experience homesickness. In this increasingly globalized world in which people migrate to faraway places for a relationship, education or work, homesickness is a feeling shared by many adults.
Homesickness can have similar symptoms to depression and in extreme cases it can develop into a panic attack. As for the term, homesickness or nostalgia wasn’t invented until the 17th century. It was considered a disorder by a Swiss physician, who attributed soldiers’ mental and physical discomfort to their longing to return home, “nostos” from Greek, and the accompanying pain, “algos”.
Studies in recent years, however, have shown that nostalgia may have some benefits to our mental health. After a decade of surveys and researches, Constantine Sedikides, a US social psychologist, found that nostalgia is what makes us human. He explains that nostalgia can resist loneliness, boredom and anxiety. It makes people more generous toward strangers and more tolerant of outsiders. Sediktdes admits that nostalgia has its painful side, but the net effect is to make life seem more meaningful. When people speak wistfully of the past, they typically become more optimistic and inspired about the future. The trick is not to become obsessive about the past, but always to live life forward. Therefore, it’s necessary for college students to learn some ways to overcome the uncomfortable feeling.
31. From the first two paragraphs, we can infer that __________.

Parents should ban electronic media during mealtimes and after bedtime as part of a comprehensive “family media use plan”, according to new recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics. “Excessive media use is associated with obesity, poor school performance, aggression and lack of sleep”, said Marjorie Hogan, co-author of the new policy.
Families should have a no-device rule during meals and after bedtime, the guidelines say. Parents should also set family rules covering the use of the Internet, cellphones, including, perhaps, which sites can be visited, and who can be called. The policy also restated the existing recommendations: Kids should limit the amount of screen time for entertainment to less than two hours per day; children younger than 2 shouldn't have any TV or Internet exposure. Also, televisions and Internet-accessible devices should be kept out of kids' bedrooms.
Doctors say parents need to obey the family rules, too, to model healthy behavior. That, some say, may be the toughest part. “If you go to any restaurant, Family 3.0 is Mom and Dad on their devices and the kids on theirs”, says Donald, a pediatrician and an AAP spokesman. “Who is talking to each other?”
Children aged from 8 to 18 spent an average of 7 hours and 38 minutes a day consuming media for fun, including TV, music, video games and other content in 2009, according to a 2010 report from the Kaiser Family Foundation. The report was based on a survey of 2002 third through twelfth graders, 702 of whom completed a seven-day media use diary. That was up about an hour and 17 minutes a day from five years earlier. About two-thirds of 8 to 18-year-olds said they had no rules on the amount of time they spent watching TV, playing video games or using the computer, the Kaiser report found.
Use of mobile devices by young kids has soared. A new report from Common Sense Media, a child-advocacy group based in San Francisco, found that 17% of children 8 and younger use mobile devices daily, up from 8% in 2011.

A board game is a game played on a pre-marked surface or “board” according to a set of rules. Board games have been played in most cultures and societies throughout history. Do you think of yourself as a bit of an expert at board games?like?chess?or?Go?
Maybe you’re not quite as good as you think. New research from the University of Manchester and Oxford suggests complex games like these are impossible to learn fully. They may even be too complex for the human mind to understand.
Researchers studied two-player games, to try and understand the strategies which people use to make decisions during the game. Some games with two players are simple, with only a small number of possible moves. Players can quickly work out the best strategy but that means the game soon becomes boring.
It gets more interesting when there are many possible moves. That’s why people are so fascinated by complex board games like chess or Go, or some?card games. But what the researchers found was that with difficult games, players find it hard to work out the best strategy and their?actions?become?less reasonable.
This research is part of the field called?game theory: the study of human strategic decision-making. Much thinking on how people play complex games is based on something called “the balance point”, which is when players have a perfect knowledge of what they are going to do and of what their?rivals are going to do.
When you add more than two players then of course the game becomes even harder to understand. Trading on the stock market is an example of a complex multi-player game.
41. Which of the following games belongs to board games?
A. football B. badminton C. swimming D. Mahjong
42. It can be inferred in the passage that _______.
A. the simpler the board game is, the better it is
B. people dislike board games for the complex moves
C. players are easy to lose patience when in difficult games
D. it’s possible for people to understand complex games thoroughly
43. If players want to get to the balance point, they should ______.
A. ask other players to work out the best strategy
B. have a good knowledge of the games they are playing
C. figure out the next actions of themselves and their opponents
D. come to a quick decision about what to do next by themselves
44. In which section can we read this passage in a newspaper?
A. Culture B. Discovery C. Career D. Campus
45. The author intends to tell us ___________.
A. a new research about board games B.the importance of playing board games
C. how the players win board games D. how to learn board games fully

More than five years I was working at a little clinic after I graduated from college. Actually I didn’t like the job and felt depressed every day. One day while working at the cash register, an elderly couple came in with a little girl in a wheelchair.
As I looked closer at this girl, I realized that she was disabled. I then realized she had no arms or legs, just a head, neck and torso. She was in red. That is a warm color.
As I took the money from her grandparent, I looked down at the girl, who was giving me the cutest, largest smile I have ever seen. All of a sudden her handicap was gone and all I saw was this beautiful girl, and her smile, just like the warm sun in the winter melted me and almost instantly gave me a completely new sense of what life is all about.
It was her smile that took me from a poor, unhappy college student and brought me into her world; a world of smiles, love and warmth.
Now I’m a successful business person and whenever I get down and think about the troubles of the world, I think about that little girl and the remarkable lesson about life that she taught me.
