Are you more of a Botticelli or a Van Gogh
A new feature in the Google Arts & Culture app reveals how a picture of your face may resemble a historical painting.
The app went viral this weekend after users discovered the entertaining feature that analyzes selfies and matches them to historical artwork. It pulls from Google's digital collection of artworks from museums around the world.
The feature rolled out to the app on iOS and Android last month. But users—even some big names such as Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, musician Pete Wentz, and actors Felicia Day and Kumail Nanjiani—shared their results on news feeds.
The app became the top downloaded iPhone app over the weekend, and landed in the top 10 on Android, according to analytics firm App Annie.
To find your fine art doppelganger(与某人外貌相同的人), open the Google Arts & Culture app and scroll until you see the "Is your portrait in a museum " feature. Tap "get started", and you'll be guided through the process.
It's currently only available in the U.S.
Google said the experimental feature uses computer vision technology to scan facial features and extract data to match with paintings. The company said it won't use data from photos for any other purpose but to match it with images in its catalog. It only stores selfies for the time it takes to find matches, Google said.
The selfie feature is similar to other apps that use matching technology to find lookalikes. Microsoft's What Dog app can identify and classify dogs based on photos uploaded to the app.
The Google Arts & Culture app is part of the Google Cultural Institute, which provides information about artists, scientists and historical figures from 1,000 institutions worldwide.
(1)Why did the Google Arts & Culture app get so popular
A.Because some famous people used it. B.Because it can match selfies to some paintings.
C.Because it's more practical than entertaining. D.Because it was the top download.
(2)How can you find your fine art doppelganger
A.By visiting Google's digital collection of artworks. B.By analyzing your selfies.
C.By opening the app and following its guide. D.By scrolling the screen of your smartphone.
(3)What can you infer from the 8th paragraph
A.The feature of the app has nothing to do with data. B.Google stores selfies as commercial resources.
C.Selfies will be stored for a long time. D.The users' selfies will not be abused.
(4)Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.The Google Cultural Institute B.Google app matches your face to a famous painting
C.What Dog app vs Google Arts & Culture app D.How to find valuable historical paintings

Years ago, students applying to colleges and universities had to have their applications and personal essays printed out and then “snail-mailed”. Flash forward to today's world of Facebook, Instagram and WeChat, where photos, videos and mobile phones rule. Fortunately, several new tools are making it easier for college applicants to use technology to show off their personalities, skills and creativity.
ZEEMEE
One of the more popular innovations in college applications is ZeeMee, a free mobile app that allows students to upload personal profiles and videos to create visual resumes. More than 220 colleges and universities offer a ZeeMee option as part of the application process. The video can show the unique creative aspects of the applicants.
THE COALITION LOCKER
Another relatively new tool comes from the Coalition for Access, Affordability and Success, now used by more than 110 member colleges and universities. Among the group's stated goals are getting students engaged in college prep early and using technology to create a supportive application process that encourages reflection and self-discovery.
Students who sign up for the free platform get access to a digital “locker”, which they can use all through high school to save class papers, artwork, newspaper stories, videos and photos to share with colleges when they eventually apply.
VIDEO — CHAT INTERVIEWS
At some schools, an interview with an admission officer is an important part of the application process. To make it easier, several virtual interviewing tools have popped up, such as a video-based platform from Kira. More than 140 universities worldwide use Kira's video assessment tool to conduct real-time interviews with prospective students. During the interview, candidates are shown the questions prerecorded by the particular school and must respond in real time by talking into the camera on their laptop or phone. In addition to showing their ability, to speak fluently in English and think on their feet, it helps admission officers determine the “motivation, commitment and drive” of applicants.
UNIQUE SCHOOL TOOLS
Some universities have come up with their own ways to allow students to show their skills and personalities. For example, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, encourages applicants to display their technical abilities and creativity by submitting a “Maker Portfolio” —a written or videotaped description of a project that shows creative and problem-solving skills. While a new app would fit the bill, the project could be anything from an origami design to a potato cannon.
(1)Which of the apps give students more guidance from their high school
A.ZEEMEE. B.THE COALITION LOCKER.
C.VIDEO — CHAT INTERVIEWS. D.UNIQUE SCHOOL TOOLS.
(2)What does the underlined word “it” in the fourth part of the passage refer to
A.The video interview. B.The description.
C.The application. D.The student's ability.
(3)What is the common feature required by colleges and universities according to the passage
A.Creativity. B.Braveness. C.Willingness to share. D.Technical ability.

Parents may think they're smart about where they store medicines, but their kids are smarter. Nearly 60,000 young children are rushed to the hospital every year after getting into medicines not meant for them, according to a new report from Safe Kids Worldwide.
The report finds little connection between what parents know about storing medicines safely and what they actually do. Nine out of 10 parents know that medicines should be stored up and away out of reach and sight, but 7 out of 10 of them admit not doing that. They leave medicines out on kitchen counters, sinks and sofas, believing babies and toddlers(学步者)aren't tall enough or strong enough to reach them. Unfortunately, they probably can. Children as young as a month have ended up in an emergency department because they'd been poisoned by getting into a medicine that was left within reach.
Most poisonings related to medicines---particularly among babies and toddlers---occur within their home. Kids develop rapidly and they want to explore their environment. At certain ages they have a lot of hand-to-mouth activity, and so it's very common for them to explore their environment and then try to taste what they find.
The new Safe Kids worldwide report includes a survey of 2,000 parents with children under age 6. While the number of children visiting an emergency department for accidental poisonings had declined since the 2010 maximum, the decline has slowed in recent years.
Prescription and over-the-counter medicines cause the most severe poisonings, but vitamins and supplements(补充品)can also cause problems. There are steps families can take to lower the risk for an accidental medicine poisoning.
(1)Why are children poisoned according to the text
A.Some of the medicines at home taste nice. B.There is something poisonous in medicines.
C.Kids have easy access to medicines at home.. D.Kids are curious to explore the environment
(2)What can we learn from the text
A.Vitamins and supplements can do good to kids. B.The team made a survey of 2,000 kids under age 6.
C.600 parents surveyed could keep medicines properly.D.Kids are usually smart at storing medicines at home.
(3)What could be the best title for the text
A.Parents' Casual Behavior Leads to Kids Poisoned B.The Number of Kids Poisoned Has Declined Lately
C.Nearly 60,000 Children Are Poisoned by Medicines D.Kids Are Facing the Risk of Being Poisoned at Home

Many of us have had this experience: we lie down in a bed other than our own, perhaps at a friend's house or in a hotel room, and find it difficult or impossible to fall asleep. Is it because the bed is uncomfortable Maybe, but perhaps there can be other reasons.
According to a new study published in Current Biology, a significant reason is what the scientists call "first night effect". They believe that one side of the brain acts as a "night watch" to warn us about potential dangers. It forces us to stay awake on the first night in a new environments.
For the study, 35 young volunteers were asked to sleep in a sleep lab for several days. Meanwhile, researchers watched their brain activities.
According to the researchers, on their first night, the left brain was more active than the right brain and people had a hard time sleeping. However, left-brain activities decreased as days went by, falling even to the point of complete calm. In this process, the participants got an increasingly better sleep experience.
The findings suggest that the different rhythms of the sides of the brain affect our sleep. When the two sides work differently, the balance between them is broken. Thus, the brain can't relax and is sensitive to anything strange in the surroundings, just as it is in the daytime.
"At some level, the brain is continuing to analyze things, even though you are not aware of the analysis, " US professor Jerome Siegel told Smithsonian
"If something unusual happens - if a door opens or you hear a key in a lock --you can be alert, even though the intensity of the stimulus (刺激强度) is quite low." More surprisingly, this phenomenon is similar to the way some animals sleep.
The researchers think that it is the result of evolution (进化), and works to protect us in potentially dangerous environments.
If you have ever had what you think is "first night effect", researchers suggest that you bring your own pillow or sleep in a room similar to your bedroom next time you sleep away from home.
(1)What is found in the new study published in Current Biology
A.Brain activities affect people's sleep in a new environment.
B.A comfortable bed helps people sleep well in a new environments.
C.Most people can sleep well in a new environment after the first night.
D.The right brain determines how well people sleep in a new environment.
(2)What do the researchers think makes the brain sensitive to new things
A.The tiredness people suffer from in the daytime. B.The bad sleep experiences people have ever had.
C.The imbalance between the two sides of the brain. D.The strangeness of the things people come across.
(3)What do the researchers think of "first night effect"
A.It has developed as a way to protect us. B.It increases our better sleep experiences.
C.It's a characteristic that animals don't have. D.It helps people to get used to new environments quickly.
(4)What might be the best title for the passage
A.Why can we get to sleep B.How can we get a better sleep
C.What affects our brain activities D.How can we prevent our "first night effect"

Tired of all the pushing in supermarkets Fed up with waiting in endless lines to pay for what you have bought Angry at wasting time in traffic jams only to find no parking spaces when you eventually arrive at the store If this is you, then online shopping is the answer to your dreams of trouble-free shopping, or is it
Online shopping brings its own challenges. Here are a few things to bear in mind when browsing (浏览) various websites. The claim (声称) made by online sites is that shopping online is a safe and secure way to make purchases. The evidence challenges this. In any case, you only have to be the victim of fraud (欺骗) once to experience all the problems that come with this form of deceiving. Use only sites that have a trusted history and an excellent reputation.
Another problem is that the appearance of items in reality is often quite different from what you see on your computer screen. This might not be a problem if you are buying washing powder but could be a major disappointment when that beautiful blue dress you ordered turns up in green. Also, product descriptions are sometimes simply untrue! Perhaps the wisest plan is to purchase items where design and colour are not essential to customer satisfaction.
Some even argue that online shopping indirectly contributes to global warming. Yes, your car can stay parked but how are online goods delivered Often by some large vans pouring out carbon monoxide(一氧化碳) and adding to our already desperate traffic problems. You are also by now becoming increasingly irritated(烦恼的) by the fact that the delivery is late and you have wasted the leave from work to receive it!

8. Good morning,everyone!
It's a great honor for me to talk about some changes.I've witnessed in the process of creating a civilized city. What has impressed me most us the traffic. We often saw pedestrians jump the red light. But now many volunteers stand at the crossroads, reminding the pedestrians to obey the traffic regulations.Of course,as educated citizens,we can do more to help our city to be more civilized, such as arousing the public's traffic awareness and helping more people to become more self-disciplined.
Just as the saying goes,“Individuals together can make a difference.”I believe our city will become more civilized and harmonious through our joint efforts. So I'm here to appeal to everyone to do your bit for you city.Only in this way will our city take on a new look and become a better place to live in.
Thank you for listening.
9. Although online shopping can help you avoid some troubles, it has many disadvantages. First, you may suffer cheating when trading online. Besides, what you get doesn't necessarily look like the same one as you see online. What's more, online shopping might lead to environmental pollution as well as transportation problems, and it even annoys you when waiting delayed delivery.
