If you could have one type of magical power, what would you wish for In the book Savvy(《灵力》), the Beaumont family all get supernatural powers when they turn 13 years old. When I finished reading it, my heart was warmed by this coming of age story.
　 Mibs Beaumont is the main character of the book. Her grandpa can move mountains, one of her brothers can cause hurricane (飓风), and another brother creates electricity. She can’t wait to turn 13 because she wants to see what power she’ll get.

But just before her big birthday, her father gets hurt in a terrible accident and cannot wake up. Suddenly, Mibs’ hope of having X-ray vision (透视眼) is gone. All she wants now is magic that can save her dad.
　　With her brothers and some friends, she decides to see her father in the hospital. They secretly get on a bus. Along the way, they make some friends. More importantly, the Beaumonts learn to control their magic and use it to help others.

As Mibs’ mum says, everyone has magic, not just the Beaumonts. Some people can run really fast. Some are good at persuading (劝说) people. But when our magic starts to work, only we can decide how to use it. Just like Fish Beaumont, who finds it hard to control his storm power at first, we must learn how to make good use of our magic because it may hurt others.

This story has two main characters—Della and her husband Jim.
The plot is easy to understand. Christmas would be coming soon. Both Della and Jim wanted to buy a gift for each other. But they couldn’t afford. Della sold her beautiful hair to buy a watch chain for Jim and Jim sold his gold watch to buy a set of combs for Della.

Finally， they found that Della’s hair and Jim’s watch were gone. Their gifts seemed useless.
The ending of this story is so surprising that I’m attracted. From the story, I can learn that Jim and Della love each other deeply. Although they are poor， they live happily.
