The way to lift up your mood
Everyone has periods in their lives when everything seems very hard, when there’s nobody to talk to and the mood(情绪)is just getting worse and worse. 31
The first thing you should try is socializing and thinking positively. It’s very hard, because usually when we feel sad we lock ourselves at home and try to think about all the bad things we have. But if you try to force yourself and call a friend for a cup of coffee, the chances are that you may change your mood into better. Just try to avoid bad thoughts. 32
33 It could be something you wanted for a long time—a short trip, a coat, a ring or anything that could lift up your mood. It doesn’t have to be costly, but it has to be good to yourself.
Not only giving gifts to yourself can lift up your mood. 34 Think of your friends, family, relatives or even local charities (慈善机构)and choose one person and give him a gift. It doesn’t have to be something expensive or big. It may be just a little toy for your poor neighbour’s child. Making another person feel happy will make you feel good in your heart and mind.
Take control of your feelings. Don’t let them control you. 35 Just follow the advice above, and start doing something.
A. Cry aloud if you feel it is necessary.
B. Here are some things that may help you lift up your mood.
C. Making yourself feel better isn’t that hard.
D. Buying things for others may be a perfect way to feel happy.
E. Do your best to find someone to talk to.
F. Instead, try to think about the bright side of your life.
G. You should also try doing something only for yourself, something totally selfish.

Ali and his younger sister, Zahra, lived with their parents in a poor neighborhood. Their mother was very sick and their father was struggling to find a job, and they had only a little money with which to buy food. As they had not paid the rent for several months, the landlord was breathing down their necks(盯着他们).
One day, Ali took Zahra’s shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way home. It wasn’t until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed, so he begged his sister to keep it secret. Zahra agreed and the two decided to share Ali’s running shoes. Zahra’s school hours were in the morning, so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Ali. He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Ali often arrived late and was warned by the school.
Ali heard about a long distance race that was held for the boys in the city. When he leaned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes.
The day of race arrived. Ali had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get tired and his legs began to ache. Getting more and more exhausted he thought only of Zahra and his promise to her. Dreaming of the new shoes he would win for his sister gave him strength, and he stayed right behind the two fastest runners, determined to finish third. Suddenly, as the finish line drew near, another runner collided(碰撞)with Ali from behind and he crashed to the ground.
