Lesson1 EQ:IQ
Material Analysis:
The topic of this unit is people, which is a very common topic among students.This lesson is abstracted from this topic,belonging to the first part. The first lesson is an argumentation, which focuses on the argument topics that EQ is as important,if not more important than IQ,and that success is not the result of high IQ. This lesson is a language focus type,which centers on many past participle expressions.It is hard for students to understand the grammar point in theory.So it takes a lot of time and effort to paraphrase the grammar,which will be left till the second period of this lesson.The argumentation is an important point in teaching-learning period.The reading material is long,complex and abstract,which will challenges students’ ability to understand.
Students Analysis:
Students are from senior 2, who have a language foundation.They are eager to learn something new,but maybe tired of the abstract concepts and learning materials. So,How to arouse students’ interest in learning and how to draw their attention is a big issue.

At the end of this lesson, students are able to:

Step1.Warm-up(6mins)
Activity1:Help students know what is IQ&EQ.
Activity2: A brief introduction of a movie.
(A promoter------a failure-------a stock broker-------a financier)
Activity2:Students watch movie and pay attention to the main role’s character.
(honesty,brave,adaptability,good communication skills...... )
[Intention]:Use a movie to draw students’ interest in learning and to create an English learning environment.Meanwhile,students will develop the sense of the importance of EQ unconsciously.
Step2.Lead-in(2mins)
Activity: The teacher raise questions for students to think about.
It is high EQ that gets him promoted.
It is high EQ that makes him a success.
Does success come with high IQ or high EQ
[Intention:]Students conclude the character by themselves and grasp the category of EQ systematically.The teacher then raise a question, laying the foundation of the reading material.
Step 3.Fast-reading(3mins)
Activity:Students read the passage quickly to find the introduction of two professors.
[Intention:]The teacher helps students understand the structure of passage through two arguments from two professors.
Step 4.Reading for details(14mins)
Activity1:The teacher uses the questions below to help students form the frame of argumentation by themselves.

Activity2:Students can find out professor Mayer’s argument through the structure of argumentation.

The teacher encourages students to retell the passage by means of the mind map.
