There are some unusual things living in the world's oceans: a “city” made up of tens of millions of relatives of starfish living on the peak of seamount, or underwater peak north of the Antarctic Circle; a huge, 16-inch long by one-quarter-inch wide mollusk (软体动物), Chaetoderma felderi, discovered deep in the Gulf of Mexico near Louisiana; and enormous bacteria (细菌) in the eastern South Pacific that may help clean polluted ocean floors.
Those are just some of the 5,300 new ocean species that scientists have identified so far. The findings are a general situation of aquatic life. Scientists estimate that the number of sea creatures will come in around 2,30,000.
Some 2,000 scientists from 82 countries are working on the project, which will eventually collect DNA “barcodes” for many of them, estimates of changes in their populations and how they fit into the food chain, and Web pages with the Encyclopedia of Life, a project to put information about all known species online.
Another striking finding is a “white shark cafe”—a gathering of white sharks. midway between California and Hawaii. In a March interview with CBC Radio One, marine scientist Barbara Block speculated (推测) that the sharks are meeting there to eat and socialise.
As the research goes on, not only do scientists have a better picture of the distribution(分布) of the animals that stay in place, they are also approaching a global picture of the movements of animals.
1.Which of the following may make the polluted ocean floor clean?
A.Starfish. B.Mollusk.
C.Bacteria. D.Sharks.
2.The underlined word “aquatic” in Paragraph 2 probably means________.

3.We can learn from the passage that the scientists are working on________.
A.the design of the new Web pages
B.the change of the food chain
C.the feeding of white sharks

4.From Paragraph 4 we can learn that white sharks________.
A.like living alone
B.also have social activities
C.are the king of the sea
D.often get together in California

A teacher who was lecturing on habits told his class, “Anything you repeat twenty times is yours forever.”From the back of the classroom came a low voice, “Sarah, Sarah. Sarah, Sarah...” The whole class laughed as Sarah the pretty one blushed(脸红).
Of course, what the teacher was trying to say is that any behaviour, often repeated, becomes a habit.
The Dutch scholar Desiderius Erasmus once said, “A nail is driven out by another nail. Habit is overcome by habit.” And if I understand him right, he suggests that saying no to a bad habit is not enough. Instead, we should try to replace it with a good one. Repeat the new behaviour twenty times and it is yours.
If any behaviour, good or bad, is often repeated, it becomes stronger and more powerful. “Since habits become power, make them work for you and not against you,” said E. Stanley Jones. In other words, drive out the undesirable nail, the behaviour you'd like to change, with a good one.
One woman did just that after complaining to her friend, “I hate being late. It has been a problem for me all of my life. ”
“Do you really want to change that habit?” her friend asked. The woman said that she did and her friend replied, “All right. Every time you're late for work or anywhere else, then give me $ 25.”
“I'd go broke!” she said.“But I'll do $10.”
“OK,” the friend replied. They agreed that the money should be kept in a jar and used for charity.
In the first week, the woman made a great effort to plan ahead and she only paid $10 to her friend. The next week, $20. The third week, none at all. By the fifth week, she had built a strong habit of leaving early, and her new behaviour replaced the old pattern. She drove out one nail with another one. And she found freedom.
6.Why did a student say “Sarah, Sarah...”?
A He was speaking with Sarah.
B.He liked his friend, Sarah.
C.He was just making a joke.
D.He wanted Sarah to listen carefully.
7.What does the author mean by saying “twenty times” in Paragraph 1?
A.You must do everything twenty times.
B.You have done something enough.
C.Twenty times will change anything.
D.Twenty times is a useful limit.
8.What was the problem with the woman?
A.She couldn't get help from her friends.
B.She liked to be the last one to arrive.
C.She didn't like others to be late.
D.She was in trouble of being late.
9.According to the woman's example, we know that________.
A.she drow' faster and faster in her journey to work
B.she stopped her old pattern by leaving early
C.she succeeded in driving out twenty nails
D.she at last paid her friend about $ 20
10.How does the passage mainly develop?
A.By providing examples.
B.By making comparisons.
C.By following the order of time.
D.By following the order of importance.

Thanks for listening!
答案:
Hello,_everyone!_My_topic_today_is_“Confidence”.
Confidence exists in our life and plays an important role in our study as well as in our growth. We often hear someone say he is afraid of doing something. He might be able to do it, but he is not confident about himself.
To build up our confidence, first we'd better take part in as many sports activities as possible. Sports and games put us into many occasions where we can find we are able to do a lot of things. Another way is to work together with our classmates, who can help us solve many problems. And only by trying hard and not fearing failure can we become confident.
