Ⅰ.阅读理解
To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel by the US writer Harper Lee. The story is set in Maycomb, Alabama during the Depression. The narrator, six-year-old Scout Finch, lives with her older brother Jem and their widowed father Atticus,a middle-aged lawyer. Jem and Scout have a friend named Dill. The three children are terrified of, and interested in, their neighbour, Boo Radley. For many years, few have seen him. The children feed each other's imagination with rumours about his appearance and reasons for remaining hidden, and they imagine how to get him out of his house. One night, the three children run to Boo's house in order to see him. Unfortunately, Boo's brother discovers them and terrifies them away. After that, Jem keeps finding different little presents in a hole of a certain tree near his house and has no idea where they come from.
Atticus is appointed by the court to defend Tom Robinson,a black man who has been accused of raping a young white woman, Mayella Ewell. Although many of Maycomb's citizens don't agree, Atticus decides to try his best to defend Tom. Atticus proves that the accusers — Mayella and her father, Bob Ewell — are lying. Despite clear evidence of Tom's innocence(无罪), the court officially announces that Tom is guilty. Tom is shot and killed while trying to escape from prison.
Other children laugh at Jem and Scout for Atticus' actions, calling him a “nigger-lover”. Scout defends her father's honour by fighting even though he has told her not to.
Humiliated(使丢脸 ) by the trial, Bob Ewell decides to revenge(报仇). At Halloween night, Jem and Scout are caught by Bob Ewell in the woods and he wants to kill the two children. Someone comes to the children's rescue. The mysterious man carries them home, where Scout realizes that he is Boo Radley.

Perhaps only a small boy training to be a wizard at the Hogwarts school of magic could cast a spell so powerful as to create the biggest book launch ever. Wherever in the world the clock strikes midnight on June 20th,his followers will flock to get their paws on one of more than 10m copies of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”. Bookshops will open in the middle of the night and delivery firms are drafting in extra staff and bigger trucks. Related toys, games, DVDs and other merchandise will be everywhere. There will be no escaping Pottermania.
Yet Mr. Potter's world is a curious one, in which things are often not what they appear. While an excitable media(hereby including The Economist, happy to support such a fine example of globalization)is helping to hype the launch of J.K. Rowling's fifth novel, about the most adventurous thing that the publishers (Scholastic in America and Britain's Bloomsbury in English elsewhere)have organized is a reading by Ms Rowling in London's Royal Albert Hall, to be broadcast as a live webcast. Hollywood, which owns everything else to do with Harry Potter, says it is doing even less. Incredible as it may seem, the guardians of the brand say that,to protect the Potter franchise, they are trying to maintain a low profile. Well, relatively low.
Ms Rowling signed a contract in 1998 with Warner Brothers, part of AOL Time Warner, giving the studio exclusive film, licensing and merchandising rights in return for what now appears to have been a steal: some $500 000. Warner licenses other firms to produce goods using Harry Potter characters or images, from which Ms Rowling gets a big enough cut that she is now wealthier than the queen — if you believe Britain's Sunday Times rich list. The process is self-generating:each book sets the stage for a film, which boosts book sales, which lifts sales of Potter products.
Globally, the first four Harry Potter books have sold some 200m copies in 55 languages; the two movies have grossed over $1.8 billion at the box office. This is a stunning success by any measure, especially as Ms Rowling has long demanded that Harry Potter should not be over commercialized. In line with her wishes,Warner says it is being extraordinarily careful, at least by Hollywood standards, about what it licenses and to whom. It imposed tough conditions on Coca Cola, insisting that no Harry Potter images should appear on cans, and is now in the process of making its licensing programme even more restrictive. Coke may soon be considered too mass market to carry the brand at all.

A.Harry Potter's appeal for the readers is simply irresistible
B.it is somewhat irrational to be so crazy about the magic boy
C.craze about Harry Potter will not be over in the near future
D.Hogwarts school of magic will be the biggest attraction world over
2.Ms Rowling's reading in London's Royal Albert Hall is mentioned to show ______.
A.publishers are really adventurous in managing the Potter's business
B.businesses are actually more credible than media in Potter's world
C.the media are promoting Pottermania more actively than Hollywood
D.businesses involved with Potter are moving along in an unusual way
3.The author believes that ______.
A.Britain's Sunday Times rich list is not very convincing as it sounds
B.Time Warner's management of licenses is a bit over commercialized
C.other firms may produce goods using Harry Potter images at will
D.what Ms Rowling got in return for her offering to Warner is a real bargain
4.Paragraph 4 intends mainly to show Warner's ______.
A.determination to promote Potter
B.consistence in conducting business
C.high regard for Ms Rowling's request
D.careful restrictions on licensing to Coco-Cola

The seven Harry Potter novels are to be sold as e-books for the first time in October. Author J. K. Rowling announced the series would also be available as audio books through a new website,Pottermore.
The website will also feature new material which Rowling says she has been collecting for years. “This is such a great way to give something back to the fans who made Harry Potter such a huge success,” the author said.
The Harry Potter novels have sold more than 450 million copies through Bloomsbury in Britain, and Scholastic in the United States. However, the e-books, which will be available in several languages, will be published through Rowling's Pottermore Publishing, rather than her print publishers which do not own the digital rights.
Pottermore went live on 31 July, Harry Potter's birthday. Rowling told the BBC that the new material was being released online, rather than in a new book, because she did not have “a new story”.
“Most of this writing is material I generated(创作) while I was writing the books earlier,” she said. “It's background, and lots of details. Some of it is new stuff in reply to things fans have asked me over the years.”
The site, which Rowling said she had been working on for two years, promises to immerse(使沉浸于) users in the boy wizard's world, offering opportunities for computer gaming, social networking and an online store. One million users will be chosen to help develop the online world, before it is open to all users from October.
Rowling told reporters at the London Pottermore launch she had no intention of writing an eighth Harry Potter book.

D.J. K. Rowling's e-books will be published by her print publishers.

He put the ring into his pocket and continued walking, when suddenly he saw a beautiful girl crying under a big tree. He approached the girl and asked, “Why are you crying so sadly?” The girl told him that she used to be a princess. A witch put a spell on her, so she was homeless. The kind man decided to help her. He learned that the witch had a magical club. Only when he got rid of it could he defeat the witch.
Having entered the castle, he put the ring on his finger. He walked freely, but nobody could see him. He looked around for the club and finally found it in a golden box and took it away in secret. On his way back the magical ring suddenly began to speak and told him, “Bury it under a big stone on the top of the East Mountain.” The man did as it said.
The man, together with the princess, went to the castle and controlled the witch. They got married and led a happy life.

Never give out identifying information such as Name, Home, Address, School Name,or Telephone Number in a public message such as at a chat room or on bulletin boards. Never send a person a picture of you without first checking with your parents.

According to the dictionary definition of “create”, ordinary people are creative every day. To create means “to bring into being,to cause to exist” — something each of us does daily.
We are creative whenever we look at or think about something in a new way. First this involves an awareness of our surroundings. It means using all of our sense to become aware of our world. This may be as simple as being aware of color and texture, as well as taste, when we plan a meal.
Above all, it is the ability to notice things that others might miss. A second part of creativity is an ability to see relationships among things. If we believe the expression, “There is nothing new under the sun. ” the creativity is remaking or recombining the old in new ways. For example, we might do this by finding a more effective way to study or a better way to arrange our furniture,or we might make a new combination of camera lenses and filters to create an unusual photograph. A third part of creativity is the courage and drive to make use of our new ideas, to apply them to achieve some new results. To think up a new concept is one thing; to put the idea to work is another.
These three parts of creativity are involved in all the great works of genius, but they are also involved in many of our day-to-day activities.
4.Which of the following activities is not a creative one according to the passage?
A.To prepare a meal.
B.To arrange the furniture in a peculiar way.
C.To buy some books from a bookstore.
D.To “write” a letter with the computer.
5.The author holds that ______.
A.creativity is of highly demand
B.creativity is connected with a deep insight to some extent
C.creativity is to create something new and concrete
D.to practice and practice is the only way to cultivate one's creativity
6.“There is nothing new under the sun. ”(Part 3)really implies that ______.
A.we can seldom create new things
B.a new thing is only a tale
C.a new thing can only be created at the basis of original things
D.we can scarcely see really new things in the world
7.The best title for this passage is ______.
A.How to Cultivate One's Creativity
B.What is Creativity
C.the Importance of Creativity
D.Creativity — a Not Faraway Thing
根据“These three parts of creativity are involved in all the great works of genius, but they are also involved in many of our day-to-day activities.”
C
If you look for a book as a present for a child, you will be spoiled for choice even in a year where there is no new Harry Potter. J. K Rowling's wizard is not alone: the past decade has been a harvest for good children's books, which has set off a large quantity of films and in turn led to increased sales of classics such as The Lord of the Rings.
Yet despite that, reading is increasingly unpopular among children. According to statistics, in 1997, 23% said they didn't like reading at all. In 2003, 35% did. And around 6% of children leave primary school each year unable to read properly.
Maybe the decline is caused by the increasing availability of computer games. Maybe the books boom has affected only the top of the educational pile. Either way, Chancellor Gordon Brown plans to change things for the bottom of the class. In his pre?budget report, he announced the national project of Reading Recovery to help the children struggling most.
Reading Recovery is aimed at six?year?olds, who receive four months of individual daily half?hour classes with a specially trained teacher. An evaluation earlier this year reported that children on the scheme made 20 months' progress in just one year, whereas similarly weak readers without special help made just five months' progress, and so ended the year even further below the level expected for their age.
International research tends to find that when British children leave primary school they read well, but read less often for fun than those elsewhere. Reading for fun matters because children who are keen on reading can expect lifelong pleasure and loving books is an excellent indicator of future educational success. According to the OECD, being a regular and enthusiastic reader is of great advantage.
8. Which of the following is true of Paragraph 1?
A. Many children's books have been adapted from films.
B. Many high?quality children's books have been published.
C. The sales of classics have led to the popularity of films.
D. The sales of presents for children have increased.
9. Statistics suggested that______.
A. the number of top students increased with the use of computers
B. a decreasing number of children showed interest in reading
C. a minority of primary school children read properly
D. a large percentage of children read regularly
10. What do we know about Reading Recovery?
A. An evaluation of it will be made sometime this year.
B. Weak readers on the project were the most hardworking.
C. It aims to train special teachers to help children with reading.
D. Children on the project showed noticeable progress in reading.
11. The aim of this text would probably be______.
A. to overcome primary school pupils' reading difficulty
B. to encourage the publication of more children's books
C. to remind children of the importance of reading for fun
D. to introduce a way to improve early childhood reading

(2013·山西阳泉高二检测)
I am a good mother to three children. I have tried never to let my profession stand in the way of being a good parent.
I no longer consider myself the center of the universe. I show up. I listen. I try to laugh. I am a good friend to my husband. I have tried to make marriage vows(誓约) mean what they say. I am a good friend to my friends, and they to me. Without them, there would be nothing to say to you today.
So here's what I wanted to tell you today: Get a life. A real life, not a desire of the next promotion(提升), the bigger paycheck, the larger house.
Get a life in which you are not alone. Find people you love, and who love you. And remember that love is not leisure(休闲), it is work. Pick up the phone. Send an email. Write a letter. And realize that life is the best thing and that you have no business taking it for granted.
It is so easy to waste our lives, our days, our hours, and our minutes. It_is_so_easy_to_exist_instead_of_to_live. I learned to live many years ago. Something really, really bad happened to me, something that changed my life in ways that, if I had my choice, it would never have been changed at all. And what I learned from it is what, today, seems to be the hardest lesson of all.
I learned to love the journey, not the destination. I learned to look at all the good in the world and tried to give some of it back because I believed in it, completely and totally. And I tried to do that, in part, by telling others what I had learned.
By telling them this: Read in the backyard with the sun on your face. Learn to be happy. And think of life as a deadly illness, because if you do, you will live it with joy and passion(激情) as it ought to be lived.

D.Be a good mother and wife
13. How did the author form her view of life?
A. Through social experience.
B. By learning from her friends.
C. Through an unfortunate experience.
D. From her children and husband.

A. make a living rather than live a real life
B. work rather than enjoy life
C. waste a lot in life
D. forget the most important lessons in life
15. What's the author's attitude toward work?

What Will Life Be Like in the Future?
I often dream about the life in the future. What will it be like? Perhaps we will be able to live on the moon. And some will live under the sea. It will be very common to do shopping and see a doctor at home by Internet. There'll be many more kinds of TV programmes for us to choose from. More children will choose to study at home on the computer. Robots will do housework for you if we don't want to. We'll have healthier foods. Pollution will get controlled. Both water and the sky will become clearer. People will have more free time. They will be able to go to other stars on holiday. They will even live with people from other stars.
