Washington is home to lots of trees—it is the Evergreen State, after all—and lots of fireplaces and wood burning stoves too. But what if you lived there and couldn't chop wood or couldn't afford to pay someone to do it Luckily, Shane McDaniel and his twin sons, Harrison and Henry McDaniel, 21, are happy to lend an ax. The three men chop truckloads of wood—then donate it to those in need. “I want people who are burning cardboard because they've got nothing,” Shane explained to . “Or because they've got nothing,” Shane explained to .“Or someone with no money who has a broken shoulder and can't cut wood.”
The idea started as a father son bonding project he told msn.com.“I had to cut wood with my dad. He just loved doing it,” says Shane. He wanted to pass along that feeling, so he and the twins spent the summer of 2018 like a clan of Paul Bunyans. The result was a great wall of wood piled up around their house.
It was too much for the McDaniels to use themselves, and when the weather turned cold that November, Shane started thinking of others. He posted on Facebook: “IF YOU ARE IN NEED OF FIREWOOD AND CANNOT AFFORD IT, PLEASE PM (personal message) ME!... Please help me and my boys make sure NO ONE GOES COLD.”
Single mom Katelyn Ticer, 29, and her four year old daughter rely on wood burning stove as their only source of heat, so it was a relief to receive a truckload of firewood from the McDaniels before the holidays. “To get that much wood brought me to tears,” told msn.com.“So much stress and anxiety is off my shoulders. I couldn't be more thankful.”
Shane is OK with that. “Giving is the reward,” he says. “It has nothing to do with how well it's received, it's about how much it's needed.”

A.He was a rich man.
B.He liked chopping wood.

Unluckily, there are some rules that teenagers should be allowed to learn in school, but not. They are important to teenagers, although not all of them have to do with their subjects.

What if we had the power to control time, instead of moving from the past to the present to the future What if we could jump, loop and travel through time in a machine What if we could go wherever and whenever we pleased
This ability would allow us to witness historic wonders, change decisions and see people from the past. We could right wrongs and stop wars from starting.
The mysterious puzzle of time has kept people debating its nature for hundreds of years. Science fiction writers have turned it into imaginative stories. Some scientists have even attempted to explain it using math. This math tries to make the dream of time travel come true.
The scientist Albert Einstein said that time and space are one thing. He called it “spacetime.” Einstein said that there are three dimensions in space: height, width and depth. A scientist named Hermann Minkowski added time as a fourth dimension.
Einstein introduced two ideas that have led to theories about the possibility of time travel. The first is relativity. The idea of relativity is that the force of gravity causes space to bend, which causes time to twist. The second idea focuses on special relativity. The idea is that a traveler moving super fast through flat spacetime will enter the future. Einstein considered time “relative” because it is measured based on where we are on Earth or in space.
Stephen Hawking is a famous scientist. He believes that a time machine will never be built. If it were possible, he thinks we would already know. If a time machine could be built, how come no one from the future has invaded us
The first science fiction story with this theme is The Clock That Went Backward by Edward P. Mitchell, which was published in 1881. Since then, thousands of books, films and television shows have explored the idea of time travel, in which some tools such as phones, watches, photographs and old books take travellers backward and forward.
Will time travel ever happen Who knows Most important is to keep your eyes open and have a sense of wonder.
12.What is the author's purpose of writing the first paragraph
A.To show time and space are connected.
B.To show people's interest in time travel.
C.To draw readers' attention to time travel.
D.To make people believe time travel is possible.
13.Which of the following statement could Einstein agree with
A.Time travel is possible in the future.
B.People can't move faster than light.
C.Time travel is against scientific rules.
D.Spacetime is not a real thing in theory.
14.What is the last but one paragraph mainly about
A.The first science fiction story.
B.Some tools used in time travel.
C.Edward P. Mitchell, the pioneer.
D.Different works about time travel.
15.What is the writer's attitude toward time travel
A.Cautious. B.Approving.
C.Doubtful. D.Hopeful.

How to Plan a Vacation
A vacation is supposed to be a fun and relaxing break from your everyday life.
16 Be ready to enjoy your time off by planning your travel, accommodations, and activities ahead of time. Giving yourself plenty of time to plan can be a fun way to build up excitement for your vacation.
Decide why you want to travel. 17 Thinking of whether your goal is to relax and unwind, have new adventures, see famous or ancient sights, or provide your children with lifelong memories will determine what kind of destination you should choose.
18 Instead of making this a chore, have it be a fun activity. Over the course of a few days, weeks or other long duration you wish, spend some time talking about each place and why it would make a good destination.
Research destination costs. While you may take more time after choosing a destination to find great deals on travel and hotel arrangements, doing a quick online search of approximate costs to travel to each destination may help you narrow your choices based on your budget.
Choose a destination. 19 If there is disagreement, find a way to compromise.
Choose when to travel. Depending on the season, a destination which is normally too hot or cold for you to consider might have a more enjoyable climate at a different time of the year. 20
A.Consider everyone who will be travelling with you.
B.Discuss possible destinations with your fellow travellers.
C.Ideally, everyone who is travelling will agree on the same place.
D.However, a poorly planned vacation can end up being a major headache.
E.If you know why you want to leave home, choosing a destination will be easier.
F.This might also be reflected in a lower cost, if you decide to travel out of season.
G. Keep in mind expenses to travel, stay and eat while you are developing your estimates.

第二节(满分25分)

I was lacking in everything needed to start a new friendship.
My parents moved to the town when they decided to look for new jobs but they didn't realize I was really hurt when I said goodbye to my old friends. It felt awful to be a new student in the school and when my classmates were chatting, what I could do was to be caught up in my thoughts watching the clouds outside the window. I was not good at math or history; nor was I good at drawing or dancing. I was shy and timid. I had a few friends back at my hometown and it seemed that they were the only ones who I could be friends with for my whole life. I felt I had achieved a point of saturation with regard to having friends and I could make no further addition to my friend list. I was ashamed of myself, so I believed I deserved no notice from others until Emily came to my world.
Emily was fearless, outspoken and easy to go. She was everything I was not and I was too shy to come out of my shell. I met Emily in school almost every day and yet I never talked to her. We were in the same class but we were like poles apart. How I wished I could be like her or at least be a friend of hers!
It was another ordinary day.
I wandered to the bus stop in the morning and waited for the school bus. Birds were singing songs with their friends but who could I sing songs with I got on the bus and went straight to my usual seat, complaining in a low voice about getting up early and going to school like every other day, and about how things were going to be the same all over again. Little did I realize something different would happen that day.
注意:
1.续写的词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
When I got up to get off the bus, my schoolbag was stuck in the armrest. ______

I got noticed by Emily, who brought me courage to start a new friendship!

Dear Alex,
I'm glad to learn that you are coming to my hometown—Chongqing. I would like to introduce it to you.
The city of Chongqing is located by the Yangtze River with a long history of about 3,000 years. It has a population of 33 million, covering an area of 82,400 km2. It is also a mountainous city. There are many scenic spots in my hometown, such as Jiefangbei, a symbol building in Chongqing, and WulongTiankeng. You will be amazed at their special scenery. In Chongqing, you are sure to have a good taste of Chongqing hotpot. Just as the spicy dishes in Chongqing, people here are also warm hearted and friendly.
Looking forward to your coming! I will be your guide to travel around. Wish you a safe journey!
Yours,

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
1.续写的词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
When I got up to get off the bus, my schoolbag was stuck in the armrest. ______

I got noticed by Emily, who brought me courage to start a new friendship!

[参考范文]
When I got up to get off the bus, my schoolbag was stuck in the armrest. I didn't notice it and stood up with all my strength. Unfortunately, my schoolbag was torn apart and all the contents fell on the ground. I knelt down to pick them up. Suddenly, I saw a hand passing me some of the books. I looked up and found it was Emily who was helping me. With her help, I put all the contents back to my schoolbag. I began to talk with her and was surprised to find that we had much in common.
I got noticed by Emily, who brought me courage to start a new friendship! One day when I told her that I admired her and how I wished to be a friend of hers, she said, “We have already been friends.” I felt so happy that I even sang a song. Hearing my song, she thought highly of it and asked me to teach her to sing it. She made me realize how unique I was and at last I came out of my shell.
