Task 5 Comparing animals
Task description
In groups, pupils think of three animals whose names start with the same letter. They compare the animals and make notes about them. Then they draw a picture of each animal and write as many sentences about them as they can. The group that writes the most sentences wins.

Task steps
Read the rubrics and examples carefully with the class. Practise the language needed for the task and demonstrate the steps by using the pictures at each step of the task.
Part A
Pupils work in groups. They think of three animals whose names start with the same letter. They compare them and make notes about them on Copymaster 1.
Less able pupils could think of three animals whose names start with different letters. They can compare the animals taught in the Pupil’s Book.
Part B
Pupils draw or stick a picture of each of the animals on Copymaster 2 and write as many sentences about the animals as they can. Provide pupils with extra copies of Copymaster 2 if there are insufficient lines to write the sentences.
More able pupils could think of and write about another three animals.
Part C
Pupils hand in their sentences to you. The group writes the most sentences wins.
The winning group reads out their sentences to the class.
Work in groups. Think of three animals whose names start with the same letter. Find out more about pare them and make notes on Copymaster 1.
