Task 1 Joining a club
Task description
In pairs, pupils talk about what they like doing. They choose a club, fill in a form and role-play handing in the form to the club’s chairperson.

Task steps
Read the rubrics and examples carefully with the class. Practise the language needed for the task and demonstrate the steps by using the pictures at each step of the task.
Part A
Pupils get into pairs. They talk about what they like doing.
Part B
Pupils look at the posters on Copymaster 1 and choose a club to join.
More able pupils can think of other clubs to join.
They fill in the form on Copymaster 2.
Part C
Ask nine volunteers to role-play the chairpersons of the clubs. (Or you can ask pupils to take turns to role-play the chairpersons.) Set up nine counters. Write the names of the clubs on pieces of paper to make name stands.
Pupils go to the counter of the club they want to join. The club chairpersons ask the pupils why they want to join the clubs.
Pupils hand in their forms to the chairpersons.
Get into pairs. Talk about your interests.

Look at the posters on Copymaster 1. Choose a club to join. Fill in the form on Copymaster 2.
