1. 作目的状语
动词不定式作目的状语，表示目的即“做某事是为了什么”,既可以放在句首，也可在放在句尾。

＝In order to know more about blue whales, I borrowed some books from the library.

2. 作宾语补足语
动词不定式（短语）跟在某些动词的宾语后面，补充说明宾语的动作。
The zoo doesn’t allow visitors to feed the animals.动物园不允许游客喂动物。
Mr Han told us not to make too much noise. 韩先生告诉我们不要弄出太大噪音。
Her words make us all laugh.她的话使我们都大笑起来。
【注意】
(1)必须跟带to的动词：allow sb. to do sth. 允许某人去做某事
want sb. to do sth. 想要某人去做某事
tell sb. to do sth. 告诉某人去做某事
ask sb. to do sth. 要求某人去做某事
advise sb. to do sth. 建议某人去做某事
注意：
以上动词接不定式作宾语补足语时，若要表达否定的意思，要在to do前加not, 构成not to do的形式。
(2) 必须省to的动词：let sb. do sth. 让某人做某事
make sb. do sth. 使某人做某事
see sb. do sth. 看到某人做某事
hear sb. do sth. 听到某人做某事
(3) to可用可不用的动词 ：help sb. (to) do sth. 帮助某人做某事

Animals in danger
Many animals around the world are in danger. Here are two examples.
The blue whale lives in oceans around the world. It is the largest animal in the world, but it feeds on one of the smallest animals. Some people kill the whales. There may be only about 3,000 blue whales left.
