In movies and books, people often describe a decisive moment when they figure out who they are. However,I never thought it actually happened in real life.I never expected to have a “moment” of my own. When it arrived, mine was much more powerful than I could have ever imagined.
During the spring of my junior year,my class watched a documentary called The Invisible Children. It was about three college students who take a trip to Africa and document their experience. At first the film was slightly humorous. However, once the group arrived in northern Uganda, the mood changed. They learned what the consequences of a 23-year war had been for thousands of children. Some had lost family and friends, and others were caught by the opposing force and became child soldiers.
Before long,I was sobbing.I couldn’t believe these things were happening, yet at the same time I knew they were.I just hadn’t been paying attention, for in the past 17 years,I was blessedly protected. When the movie ended,I couldn’t get it out of my head. For the next week,I was not myself.Every bite of food I took I thought of Grace, the 15-year-old who had little to eat. When I went to bed,I pictured Sunday, the 14-year-old boy sleeping on a straw mat on the ground in a camp.My whole world shifted.
Since that day,I haven’t been able to picture my future in a way that doesn’t involve going to Africa and doing what I can to help.Ultimately, this is why I decided to major in engineering. With an engineering degree,my potential for change will be limitless.I will build wells and schools, and design irrigation systems.Engineering is tough, but I know—in what Yeats called “my deep heart’s call”—that this is what I’m supposed to do with my life.

In a new research, doctors are making use of feature films(故事片) in an attempt to encourage their patients to talk more freely about their problems.Supporters of “film therapy” say that discussing characters and plotlines from a proper film can help people to understand their feelings better.
One of those using the method is Dr Zhang,a doctor from Shanghai, who charges 250 for a one-hour “film therapy” session. He said,“I was treating a woman who had been badly heartbroken in a relationship, and who was experiencing such strong feelings that it was difficult for her to speak about them.I told her that her situation reminded me of On the Waterfront, where the hero realizes his brother is dishonest and he feels a great sense of betrayal(背叛).My patient identified so easily with him that she started to cry.Watching and discussing the film unlocked all the feelings she had buried. Each time she watched and cried, she felt better.”
Dr Zhang admits that film therapy does not work for everyone, but says he has used it successfully with about a third of his clients.“Through the films’ characters, plots and even music,it allows people to face their problems.” He said that Falling Down,in which Michael Douglas plays the part of an unemployed man who is so depressed that he uses violence, was an example of the dangerous results of not letting anger go.“I used this film with a patient who was very upset because he was holding back a lot of the anger he felt towards people who had hurt him,” said Dr Zhang.“We talked about Michael Douglas’s character and the violent path he takes, and my patient then realized that he needed to let go of his feelings more regularly so as not to burst out like a time bomb.”
8.What are doctors doing in a new research
A.Taking advantage of feature films to help patients.
B.Talking with patients much more than before.

D.She wanted to release her sorrow.

A.To learn a lot from Michael Douglas.
B.To release his anger on a regular basis.
C.To act out his anger through violence.
D.To forgive those who had once hurt him.
11.Which statement is Dr Zhang more likely to agree on
A.Film stars can help people solve their problems.
B.The film therapy can be applied to most patients.
C.Films can contribute to unlocking hidden feelings.

Over the past few decades, children have been taking part less in free play and more in organized sports. While participation in organized sports has both social and physical benefits for young children, concerns about safety and benefits increase as participants get younger.
Though most children are naturally likely to be physically active, not all kids are willing to get up and move.Soccer coach Joseph Luxbacher says,“Every kid has the potential to be a good sportsman in different kinds of sports.Participating in organized sports such as the school soccer team introduces direction to children’s physical activities.Following a team schedule gives kids a set time and place to exercise. As a result, kids can be safe from accidents and be protected against hurt.”
What’s more, participating in organized sports gives children time to communicate with others and showing good sportsmanship. For young children who may still be very self-centered,participating in team sports teaches them to think about the group and encourages them to be happy about the success of their teammates.Kids can also benefit from spending time with their coach and having a chance to develop a positive relationship with an adult other than their parents, especially if the coach is both skilled and devoted to being a positive mentor.
Playing organized sports requires a lot of time for practice and games,so it would seem that this could influence students’ study.Actually it can ameliorate students’ test performance. That’s because to play organized sports well, players have to memorize information,do repetitive actions, and learn from teammates. All these types of learning skills can make students score higher.
Though it can come from many different sources—parents, coaches, teammates or themselves—many children who participate in organized sports feel pressured to succeed. While a little stress can be helpful in leading children to perform with increased focus and strength, too much stress will leave young kids feeling very tired.Organized sports are more likely to put the right amount of pressure on them.
12.What do Joseph Luxbacher’s words show
A.Organized sports can achieve kids’ potential.
B.Most children prefer free play to organized sports.
C.Organized sports can better secure kids from injuries.
D.Most children have a set time and place to exercise.
13.What is the third paragraph mainly about
A.Kids can learn social skills by playing organized sports.
B.Kids can meet better coaches by playing organized sports.
C.Kids can show good judgement by playing organized sports.
D.Kids can better communicate with parents by playing organized sports.
