Hanfu, traditional Chinese costumes and a cultural carrier, has gained more attention from foreigners living in China.
“I can’t believe I’ve been in China for three years and I’ve never tried on hanfu,” Stephanie Stone,a reporter at China Daily, said in an interview she hosted. For her first hanfu experience, she went out and met Jongmay Urbonya, who is a US hanfu lover as well as a key Internet opinion leader.Looking at all of the hanfu in a hanfu store,Urbonya said,“This is my dream for my future life and my life now.”
As a foreigner wearing hanfu,Stone raised a question:If someone is not ethnically(种族) Chinese, would it be a little offensive(冒犯的) to Chinese people seeing her wear this symbolic Chinese-style costume
Elsbeth van Paridon of the Beijing Review expressed her thoughts on this question.According to her,Chinese people are tolerant and open to seeing foreigners wearing hanfu. They see it as a celebration of Chinese culture. As long as you don’t claim(声称) Chinese culture as yours, you may wear it as frequently as you want.
“We have a very nice example of what happened this summer. So basically Dior, they came out with a new skirt. And then the skirt went viral(走红) on Chinese social media with Internet users saying ‘Hey,hold your horses! This is not a Dior skirt. It’s called a horse-face skirt’,which dates back to the Song Dynasty(960-1279),” said van Paridon.
“You have to understand that emotional bond is key to the whole hanfu love,” said Urbonya.“Although she does not have a Chinese face, every time she wore hanfu she would be praised by Chinese locals.”
Hanfu has also become an art form,so a lot of people mix and match it with modern accessories(配饰).“The future of hanfu is looking for combination,” said van Paridon.

As a child growing up in a suburban town in the Northeast of the United States, the arrival of spring had little meaning for me.Sure,we had a week-long spring vacation from school, but the key word there was vacation, not spring.
For the kids in my neighborhood, the arrival of spring was a non-event.There were two important seasons:winter, when we could go skating and sledding or build snow forts, and summer, when we could finally make proper use of the beach about 100 meters east of my family home.Spring and autumn were just technical details, weeks and weeks of waiting for the good times’ return.
Admittedly, spring later developed its own attractions for me—“In the spring a young man’s fancy turns to thoughts of love”,as the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson noted—however,it was not spring itself, but the other stuff that got my attention.
In short,I never thought much at all about spring...and then I arrived in China.I had been in Beijing for about three months when my first Spring Festival rolled around, and it could hardly be ignored.Aside from the random bursts of fireworks at any time day or night, what stood out most for me was that the capital seemed to be empty.
It was as though the crowds and streams of cars and trucks commonly seen in the capital had all gone into hiding. My puzzlement cleared up when I returned to work.My colleagues explained that Chinese traditionally travel,if necessary,to visit their families during the Spring Festival, and that many Beijingers were not natives of the capital.
I also got my first knowledge of something about the Spring Festival that never stops to amaze me.Regardless of when the holiday is set to begin, there is an almost immediate and sudden change for the better in the weather.Spring really does arrive.
I can’t begin to figure out how the ancient Chinese could create a system that would almost always accurately predict when the season would shift year after year after year. But they did.

Chinese mooncake is the representative food of the Mid-Autumn Festival. It is a kind of round cookie with various fillings and different artistic patterns on the surface.
In Chinese culture, roundness symbolizes completeness and togetherness. The mooncake is not just a food. It’s a cultural tradition deep in Chinese people’s hearts, symbolizing a spiritual feeling. At the Mid-Autumn Festival, people eat mooncakes together with family, and present mooncakes to relatives or friends to express love and best wishes.
As early as the Shang and Zhou dynasties in what today are Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces in east China, there was a kind of “Taishi cake” thick at the center and thin at the edge, which was the origin(起源) of the mooncake. In the Han Dynasty, sesame(芝麻) and walnuts were introduced into China, and round cookies filled with these foods appeared. In the Tang Dynasty, the name “mooncake” was used for the first time.In the Northern Song Dynasty, mooncakes got popular in the royal palace. It was not until the Ming Dynasty that the custom of eating these cookies during the Mid-Autumn Festival became popular.
Mooncakes vary according to different regional styles and tastes.Cantonese-style mooncakes are known for their sweetness.Suzhou-style mooncakes have existed for more than a thousand years. They have soft layers of dough(面团) and lots of sugar and lard, making them available in sweet or salty tastes.Beijing-style mooncakes feature the delicate use of sweetness and fine decoration.Chaoshan-style mooncakes are usually larger than other mooncakes with common fillings of red bean paste and potato paste.
Most mooncakes contain high amounts of sugar and oil, which are not healthy. To decrease the harmfulness that high fat and calories bring to our body, some foods are recommended to eat together with mooncakes, including tea, sour fruit like grapes, and wine. They help digest, and take away fat in our body. Also,do not eat too much at one time.

How to Create Your Own Family Traditions
Sometimes we follow certain family traditions because we simply have nothing else to put in its place. However, when there are changes in the family,it forces us to examine our old traditions. So how do you find new traditions to introduce
1 There’s no point throwing the baby out with the bath water,so think of any traditions from your past that you do want to carry on.You can pick out the best and leave those you are not so fond of behind.
Tailor(制定) around your family’s likes and interests. It is a sure-fire way to ensure everyone is going to enjoy themselves and maybe even continue the tradition.Whatever your family enjoy, you can personalize your tradition to involve what the whole family enjoy. 2
Search the world for ideas. 3 It doesn’t mean you can’t adopt a foreign idea just because it isn’t your culture. No matter what the foreign traditions are, there’s no reason why you can’t make them yours also.
Do what your friends do.One way to find ideas is to ask friends what they do. 4 And the conversation with them could even bring an invitation to join them in their traditions.
