The Fish I didn't Catch
I still remember my first fishing experience as if it were but yesterday. I have been __21__many times in my life (like when I got admitted to the best school), but never more intensely(强烈地) so than when I received that first fishing 22 from my uncle.
My uncle, who knew by long 23 where pickerel(梭鱼)would gather, 24 placed me at the most favorable point. I threw out my line and waited anxiously for a bite, 25__the float up and down rapidly on the surface of the water. But nothing came of it. "Try again," said my uncle. Suddenly the float 26 out of sight. "Now for it," thought I; "here is a fish at last."
I made a strong pull, only to bring up a tangle of weeds. Again and again I cast out my line with aching arms, and drew it back empty. I looked at my uncle 27 ."Try once more," he said, "we fishermen must have 28 .
Suddenly something tugged at my line, and swept off with it into deep water. Pulling it up quickly, I saw a fine pickerel wriggling in the sun. "Uncle!” I cried, looking back in uncontrollable 29 , "I've got a fish!” "Not yet," said my uncle. Just then, I saw the scared fish shooting into the middle of the stream, my hook hung 30 from the line. I had lost my prize.
My heart sank with it and I felt like a failure. We tend to speak of the 31 of childhood as matters of little importance 32 those of grown-ups. How often I have been reminded of the fish that I did not catch 38 ! To understand the concept of collective consciousness, you need to accept the fact that we, as humans, are all one, a small part of the whole. In fact, we aren’t just one, and each of our actions and thoughts forms a part of our karma (因缘) and others’. When we share a collection of common ideas, morals, attitudes and beliefs, we, as a society, are tied together by a strong force. This is the essence and spirit of collective consciousness. Research deeper into the subject and you’ll find many such instances in our daily life.
Nature offers some of the best instances of this concept. A well-known example is that of ants. Observe them carefully, and you’ll find that they always live together in colonies, doing their little bit for the group. However, if you separate a part from the colony, they’ll perform the same tasks at the same time as their fellows. This can be dismissed as a coincidence, but you can try out an experiment. Drop a food crumb (碎屑) that is too large to be carried by a single ant, and do this to an ant that is distanced from the rest of the colony. You’ll observe that the other ants will come and help immediately. How do they know about the food or about their colony members wanting help? Is it the smell of the food? Many believe this is an example of collective consciousness in action.
Have you noticed we’re severely affected by the disasters that occur worldwide? Whenever we hear reports of natural disasters like floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, etc., we tend to feel a common grief. We share a common sadness for those hit by the disaster. Why do we pray together for all the poor and feel happy when there is some good news after the disaster? Is this just being nice? Somewhere, we were all made to connect to each other.
According to reliable sources, certain findings have been made, which lead us to believe that even science supports collective consciousness. This was observed when multiple people located in geographically different locations came up with the same kind of inventions at around the same time. For instance, the Laws of Conservation of Energy was proposed by 4 different people in 1847. Sunspots were discovered in 1611 by 4 different people.
There are many more such examples of collective consciousness. In a word, collective consciousness defines the rules of reality. The shared faith and beliefs act as a unifying force and a guiding factor to understand the universal mind connectedness. Therefore, practice this concept in your daily life. Start believing we’re all one, and that we all are connected.
