To collect specific information of Guangzhou;
To learn how to plan the structure of a travel guide;
To know how to evaluate others’ travel guide.
Student analysis
There are nearly 10 students who are excellent in English learning, while there are nearly 8 students with weak English foundation in Class One, Grade Seven. The students in this class are generally active, especially group work, and dare to perform in class.
Teaching aims
Knowledge aims:
Students can master the key sentence patterns like “If..., you can/will...; One of +the+形容词最高级+名词复数+is...; there be...; ...is a wonderful place to visit...”;
Students can introduce Guangzhou from various aspects and plan the structure of the travel guide.
Ability aims:
Students can know how to develop the body of a travel guide with the learned sentence patterns;
Students can imitate the sample to describe the different places of Guangzhou.
Emotion aims:
Students will be interested in travelling and plan their trips beforehand;
Students will enrich their horizon and go outside to have a look.

Lead-in (1)Have a situation simulation; (2)Do a quiz (5 mins) Help Ss have fun in the scene setting and have a basic knowledge of Guangzhou; Teacher creates the situation, making the groups compete to be the tour guide, and finally help Ss collect the information of Guangzhou. Ss cooperate with group members to finish the quiz.
Pre-writing Have a brainstorm of what a travel guide include; [2 mins] Review the key words, phrases and sentence patterns; [2 mins] Analyze the sample to find out how to plan the structure; [4 mins] Summarize how to outline;[2 mins] More exercises [5 mins] (15 mins) Help build scaffolding before writing, including inputting the relative words, phrases, and key sentence patterns as well as the content and structure. Teacher guides Ss to conclude the introduction to Guangzhou from different aspects; Teacher gives 2 mins to Ss to review the key words, phrases and sentence patterns and check the answers later; Teacher gives 2 mins to Ss to read the sample and answer the questions, and finally check the answers; Teacher teaches students how to outline; Teacher gives 2 mins to Ss to finish the exercises and ask Ss to act the conversations finally. Ss brainstorm the other aspects of the introduction to Guangzhou; Ss write down the key words, phrases and sentence patterns; Ss read the sample and answer the questions; Ss take notes of how to outline; Ss discuss with deskmates and practice the conversations.
While-writing Write down the introduction to places of interest in Guangzhou based on the assigned card;[5 mins] Group Work: Make a travel guide, selecting and combining all the cards from group members. [5 mins] (10 mins) Make Ss practice applying the learned sentence patterns to describe different places of interests in Guangzhou and finish the final task--making a travel guide. Teacher provides help for Ss when necessary Ss write down their descriptions of the assigned places of interest; Ss cooperate with their group members to complete the travel guide.
Post-writing Present Ss’ travel guide and give the peer& teacher’s feedback (9 mins) Make Ss know the standard of a good writing and avoid making the same mistakes as peers’ writings Teacher evaluates Ss’ travel guide according to the standard of evaluation. Ss find out the mistakes of peers’ travel guide and finish the evaluation form.
Summary Summarize the task of travel guide (30 s) Encourage Ss to go outside to have a look Teacher assumes to get the message of Mike and praise Ss’ hard work; meanwhile, teacher inspires Ss to go travelling through a famous saying. Ss listen to teacher’s summary and interact with teachers.
Homework Finish and revise writing (30 s) Revise the Group’s travel guide and then design a travel guide of Guangzhou by yourself(独自地)
