Task 4 A class picture of animals
Task description
Pupils make a class picture of animals in a safari park. Then they count the animals, make notes and write captions about the animals.

Task steps
Read the rubrics and examples carefully with the class. Practise the language needed for the task and demonstrate the steps by using the pictures at each step of the task.
Part A
Divide the class into six groups. Assign each group a type of animal, e.g. sixteen monkeys eating bananas, fourteen zebras running.
Give each group a large piece of paper. Instruct pupils to draw the animals on the large pieces of paper. They can also colour them and decorate their pictures, e.g. drawing a pond / some grass.
Have pupils put their pictures on the noticeboard to form a class picture of animals in a safari park. Pupils can decorate the safari park together.
Part B
Ask pupils to make notes about each kind of animals in the class picture. They write down the names of the animals, how many there are, where they are and what they are doing on Copymaster 1.
Part C
Using the information on Copymaster 1, every group writes captions for the class picture on a piece of paper.
Collect the captions from the class and choose the best one to stick on the board.
Get into groups. Colour the cutouts of the assigned animal.
