Chapter 5: Signs we see
Task 5 Writing signs for a park
Task description
Pupils look at a picture of the park and talk about the things that they can and cannot do in the park. Then they put the signs in the appropriate places in the picture. Finally they write the rule for the missing sign in the picture.

Task steps
Read the rubrics and examples carefully with the class. Practise the language needed for the task and demonstrate the steps by using the pictures at each step of the task. Revise the text type ‘signs’ on page 29 of the Pupil’s Book with pupils.
Part A
Tell pupils to get into pairs. They look at the picture on Copymaster 1 and talk about what they can and cannot do in the park.
Part B
Pupils look at the signs on Copymaster 2. They put the signs in the appropriate places on Copymaster 1 by writing the correct letters.
Part C
The sign near the pond is missing. Tell pupils to write the rule for the sign in the picture and draw the sign out.
More able pupils could tell the class what signs they have written and drawn.
Look at the picture. Talk about the things you can and cannot do in the park.
Example
: Can we walk on the grass
: No, we can’t.
The park keeper is writing the signs in the park. Look at the signs on Copymaster 2 and help him write the letters on the signs in the picture.
One sign is missing in the picture. Can you draw and write it for the park keeper
