In China, lunch is usually served around 12 pm or even later. We like sharing food together and all the dishes are usually placed in the center of a round table that ensures all the diners have equal accessibility to the served meal and to make everyone feel respected. The use of chopsticks is a must in our cuisine. At the start of the normal meal, we often say “Chiba!”. During the meal, it is expected of the host to offer the special dish to all the members around.
Eating customs in China are in some ways different from those in the West. We use chopsticks while they use knives and forks. Additionally, in China, food should be taken by the guest firstly. If you want to eat some food, you shouldn’t take too much. However, in the West, the ladies are usually invited to serve themselves firstly.
Just enjoy your Chinese meal. You’ll never forget it!
