When writing a formal letter to recommend books, you can follow the structure below:
Begin by clearly stating the purpose of the letter.
Explain what types of books you want to recommend and the reasons.
End the letter by stating the result you wish to see.

Use formal language instead of spoken language.
Avoid using contracted forms like I’m and he’s.

When you write a formal letter, you should begin with Dear Sir / Madam or Dear Mr / Miss / Mrs / Ms ... and end with Yours faithfully or Yours sincerely.
Learning about the format
本单元的写作任务是写一封推荐信，推荐信是向收信人推荐人或事物的书信。写推荐信应该注意以下几点：
1．说明被推荐者的基本情况。推荐人时，应包括姓名、性别、年龄、业务水平、工作能力、身体状况等；推荐某物品、地方或去处时，应包含具体位置、如何到达、服务水平、用途、特点等。
2．说明推荐的理由。要求写得具体、充分，如实地介绍优点，客观地叙述理由。
3．时态以一般现在时为主。结构上，推荐信一般采用三段式：
第一段：说明写信的目的和要推荐的内容。
第二段：介绍被推荐人或物及其推荐理由。
第三段：总结，表达愿望。
写作巧技法
1. Learning that our library is planning to buy new books，I’m willing to recommend some books to you.
2. I’m very pleased to learn that you are going to...，so I’m writing this letter to offer my recommendation.
3. The reason why I recommend...is that...So I hold the belief that...be(am/is/are) quite suitable for the post.
4. I recommend it mainly for the following two reasons.
5. In addition，this...will definitely change our attitude toward the world and the people around us.
6. I do hope you can take my recommendation(s) into account/consideration and make a final decision.

In my opinion, what we need most are popular science books. Usually popular science books explain basic rules of nature in a simple and interesting way.
