Step 2 Pre-task
Grammar
may / might和probably
1. may表示“可能”, 与probably同义, 但是用法有差别,may是情态动词,后跟动词原形,它表示一种推测,是根据某一种情况而进行的判断。may和might 表示推测时,只能用于陈述句中,might暗示可能性更小。如:
She may not be working now. 现在可能她没有在工作。John might be at home now. 约翰现在可能在家。
2. may和might 用于一般疑问句中,表示委婉的请求;肯定回答用may;否定回答用might。如:
—May I use your pencil 可以用你的铅笔吗?
—Yes, you may. 是的,可以。
—No, you mustn’t. 不,不行。
3. probably是副词,意为“或许,大概,很可能”,指某事的发生很有可能或十有八九,其语意较强,侧重有根据、合情合理的推测,表示的可能性很大。修饰形容词、副词和动词,在句子中作状语,放在实义动词之前,助动词、情态动词、be动词之后,还可放在句首。常用句型:主语+will probably/possibly+v.。
