Dear John,
Delighted to hear that you are coming to China during holiday, I am writing to extend my
warmest welcome. Among all the tourist attractions deserving a visit, I would like to recommend
the Palace Museum.
Established during the Ming Dynasty, the Palace Museum has witnessed the development of
China, offering you a deeper insight into Chinese culture. Moreover, you can admire grand
architectures and valuable treasures there. As for the transportation, taking the subway will be a
wise choice considering the heavy traffic.
Hope my recommendation will be of benefit to you. Wish you a good trip in Beijing.
Yours,
Li Hua

第二部分阅读理解 (共两节,满分 50分)
B
第一节(共 15小题:每小题 2.5分,满分 37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Honey from the African forest is not only a kind of natural sugar, but it is also delicious.
Most people, and many animals, like eating it. However, the only way for them to get that honey
is to find a wild bees’ nest and take the honey from it. Often, these nests are high up in trees, and
it is difficult to find them. In parts of Africa, though, people and animals looking for honey have
a strange and unexpected helper — a little bird called a honey guide.
There are many fun, free activities that you can do as a family. All that is required is a bit of
imagination and some time. And the best part is that these are the kind of fun and family
memories that a child will remember for a lifetime.
The honey guide does not actually like honey, but it does like the wax in the beehives (蜂房).
The little bird cannot reach this wax, which is deep inside the bees’ nest. So, when it finds a
suitable nest, it looks for someone to help it. The honey guide gives a loud cry that attracts the
attention of both passing animals and people. Once it has their attention, it flies through the forest,
waiting from time to time for the curious animal or person as it leads them to the nest. When they
finally arrive at the nest, the follower reaches in to get at the delicious honey as the bird patiently
waits and watches. Some of the honey, and the wax, always falls to the ground, and this is when
the honey guide takes its share.
Family Game Night
Kids often get games for Christmas or birthdays, and would love to have a chance to play
with their family or make up some games of their own. Charades(字谜游戏)is a fun game that
will challenge children to use their imagination. Divide the family into teams and let each team
come up with words and the other has to act out.
Family Art Time
Pick some time for the family to sit down and come up with their own art.
It doesn’t need to be just a drawing— take some old magazines, let the kids cut out pictures
and paste them into their own shape. Or let them use leaves, branches and whatever else they can
find to make something from their imagination.
Scientists do not know why the honey guide likes eating the wax, but it is very determined in
its efforts to get it. The birds seem to be able to smell wax from a long distance away. They will
quickly arrive whenever a beekeeper is taking honey from his beehives, and will even enter
churches when beeswax candles are being lit.
Family Picnic
Taking the family for a picnic is a great way for some fun that doesn’t cost any money. If the
weather is nice, take them to a park or playground and let them have a day of playing.
Family Field Trip
24. Why is it difficult to find a wild bees’ nest
A. It’s hidden in trees.
B. It’s small in size.
A family field trip doesn’t have to cost a cent. Ask a nearby farm if you can bring your kids
out for a tour and to see some of the animals. Or take them to a park to find certain items from
nature. Ask a local business if you could bring the family for a tour to see how things work—you
might be surprised at the number of people who would be excited to share what they do with
others, and it could be an interesting lesson for kids.
C. It’s covered with wax.
D. It’s hard to recognize.
25. What do the words “the follower” in Paragraph 2 refer to
A. A bee.
B. A bird.
C. A beekeeper.
D. Animals or people looking for honey.
26. The honey guide is special in the way ______.
21. What are kids supposed to do when playing the game Charades?
A. Prepare some cakes for each other.
A. it goes to church
C. it sings in the forest
B. it gets its food
D. it reaches into bees’ nests
B. Be quick to follow others’ actions.
27. What can be the best title for the text
A. Wild Bees
C. Sing a song for each other in turn.
B. Honey-Lover’s Helper
D. Wax and Honey
C
D. Connect actions with certain words.
C. Beekeeping in Africa
22. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. It costs a lot to visit a park for a family.
We often think that buying an artificial tree instead of a real one for Christmas will help the
environment by not cutting down trees. However, this argument doesn’t consider the process of
producing and disposing of the trees, during which a lot of CO2, emissions are being let off into
the air. Actually, increased demand for real trees is helping the environment.
B. You may share your own experience with workers.
C. You should ask for permission from the farm owner.
D. All the people will be excited to share what they have with you.
23. Who is the passage mainly intended for
A. Teachers
B. Parents
C. Tourists
D. Teenagers
Artificial trees, when created, give out an average of 40kg of CO2. To harvest a real

Christmas tree, very little CO2 emissions are caused. If left to biodegrade (生物降解), a real tree
will return to the earth in one to two years depending on conditions. An artificial tree, however,
will take hundreds of years to degrade, letting out more pollutants into the air. Further, even if an
artificial tree is recycled, the process will continue to produce even more CO2.
Real trees do not have these problems. They can have positive effects on our health. When
they are near a window and regularly watered, they will produce clean oxygen which can
improve health.
kilometers away.
Traditionally, scientists have considered the idea of species relocation (迁移) risky. This is
because it can cause problems for existing native animals. But some scientists now believe
relocation is necessary to save threatened species. Moves have already been considered for
several species, including birds, lizards, butterflies and even plants.
The relocation in Hawaii included the Tristram’s storm petrel, a seabird that is native to
low-lying islands in Hawaii and Japan. The project moved about 40 young birds from Hawaii’s
Tern Island to Oahu, one of the state’s biggest islands. The Tristram’s storm petrel is considered
at risk of dying out.
Undoubtedly, cutting down trees is bad for the environment, so what makes cutting down
Christmas trees any different Christmas trees have specific farms where they are harvested,
meaning that protected forests aren’t cut down, and, with every tree harvested a new one is
planted. The trees aren’t harvested until they are between 10 and 12 years old and the farms
always have trees growing while they’ re harvesting this year’s trees.
If you have already used an artificial tree, the best thing you can do is to keep using it year
over year to save it from going to landfill.
Tern Island is now just 1. 8 meters above sea level. Scientists fear the island may disappear
completely if the sea level there continues to rise. Scientists hope the relocated animals can
someday be returned to their native environments if conditions change.
Some lawmakers in western states, including Montana, New Mexico and Arizona, are
against the proposal. They say moving species to new places could create environmental
problems and result in an “invasive (入侵的) species”.
28. What does the Paragraph 1 say about artificial trees
A. The process of producing them is difficult.
Federal officials are expected to decide the proposal. Jason McLachlan is a biologist, who
thinks the government proposal shows an important change “in the way we think of species
protection and conservation”.
B. They do no good to the environment.
C. They help fight againstCO2 emissions.
D. The demand for them is on the increase.
Pacific Rim Conservation’s Yander Werf said that to save storm petrels, scientists need to act
before populations have crashed. “In 30 years, there will certainly be few such birds, if we don’t
do anything about it,” he said.
29. How is Paragraph 2 organized
A. By making comparisons.
C. By listing data.
B. By explaining different views.
D. By giving examples.
James Watson is a scientist at the University of Queensland in Australia. He said that “Many,
many species must be moved, or they could go out of existence”. Watson added that increasing
wildfire has forced some relocations of animals.
30. What do we know about the real Christmas trees from the passage
A. They have a bad effect on the environment.
B. They are harvested from protected forests.
32. What’s the problem with the Tristram’s storm petrel
C. Harvesting them needs great efforts.
A. It is dying of hunger.
B. It is losing it young birds.
D. It is being hunted like crazy.
D. Cutting them down almost causes no harm.
C. It faces the risk of losing home.
31. What’s the purpose of the text
33. Why are some lawmakers against the idea of species relocation
A. To inform us of the function of real Christmas trees.
B. To tell us the benefit of not keeping a Christmas tree.
C. To explain why real Christmas trees are environmentally-friendly.
D. To show artificial trees have less value than real trees.
D
A. It has no chance of success.
C. It costs a lot of money.

D. It damages the relocated animals.
34. What do Yander Werf and James Watson have in common
A. They stress the risk of wildfire.

35. What can be the best title for the text
A. Moving Species to New Areas.
C. Creating Homes for Wildlife
B. They care for endangered species.
D. They support moving species.
Scientists increasingly are aiming to move animals endangered by rising temperatures to
new areas where they have never lived before in an effort to save them. One example is a project
in Hawaii that moved, or relocated, a seabird species (物种) from one island to another about 800

M: Despite various difficulties, Luo Yingjiu, 82, has run a small zoo in Enshi, Hubei
province, on his own for 33 years. Most “residents” of the zoo are old and weak, many of which
were saved by Luo. The zoo’s lion, tiger and python passed away years ago, leaving a bear,
peafowls, monkeys, a Tibetan mastiff, a wild pig, two raccoons and 20 dogs.
Living in the zoo himself, Luo gets up at about 5:00 am, checks the condition of the animals,
cleans their house and prepares food for them, before settling down at the gate to welcome visitors.
At night, he observes the animals and refills their food and water. He even gets up at around 2:00
am to care for the older ones.
Starting from January, the old man’s granddaughter, Luo Wei, began to post short videos
of him looking after these animals online. She hopes to raise public awareness of the zoo and
give people a better understanding about her grandfather’s work. Many people tell Luo
Yingjiu to rest at this old age, but he says the zoo is his lifetime’s happiness.
