On the afternoon of March 23, 2022, Chinese astronauts on board China’s Tiangong space station gave a science lesson 400 kilometers above Earth. It was a great success. Do you still remember the first space lesson hosted by Wang Yaping in 2013 Helped by the other two astronauts, she gave the lesson to more than 60 million school children all over the country.
While watching the science lesson from the Tiangong-1 on the morning of June 20, 2013, Wang Lutian, a 10-year-old disabled student at a special school in downtown Beijing, was drawing a colorful rocket with crayons in his classroom. “Moon...stars...a rocket to the sky,” Wang explained his work in a cheerful voice. At that time, he and more than 100 other disabled students were enjoying the lesson given by Wang Yaping, who talked about movements in micro-gravity (微重力) environments. “Zero gravity!” Qian Shaohong, another student at the school, shouted when he saw astronaut Nie Haisheng making a show of crossing his legs in mid-air. “Scientific knowledge has helped open a window for the children to know about the world,” said Zhang Yini, a teacher at the school.
The lesson also increased interest in space science among teenagers living on the “roof (屋脊) of the world”. “I was most interested in the presentation of the ‘water ball’ in a gravity-free environment. It’s really amazing,” said Rigzin Jigme Doje, a high school student in Lhasa, Tibet. A tree has roots. People have roots, too. If you get to the root of a problem, you will solve it. It’s the same thing with words. Dig deep into a big, unfamiliar word and you will understand where it came from.
As readers, especially those reading in a second language, we need to deal with the text as if we were detectives (侦探) looking for information to unlock the unknown. Like any good detective arriving on the crime scene (犯罪现场), the first thing to do when meeting a new and difficult word is to judge (判断) the situation, to look at everything that is known and see if it helps us to understand what it means.
As you know, prefixes (前缀) and suffixes (后缀) can be added to the beginning or end of words to change the meaning. Know them, and you will have the word building power. But root words are the key. Take time to learn a few of these, put them in your memory, and you will become a master word detective.
Let’s look at one common root word used in English. “Alter” from the Latin (拉丁语的) word means “other”. When you meet this root word, you know that the bigger word has something to do with “other”. Examine the word “alternate”. Can you find the Latin root in it
● If you and your friend like to eat out, first you pay and the other pays the next time. You are alternating paying.● If you go to the movies on alternate Saturdays, you go on one Saturday, but not the other Saturday.● If you have no alternative, you have no other choice.
Learn as many root words as possible in the language you are studying. Then use your “rooting for words” skills. Like any new skill, practice and hard work are always paid back.
46. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to
A. The situation. B. The crime scene.
C. A new and difficult word. D. Everything that is known.
47. If Jim and Lily go to the movies, which one below is “alternating paying”
A. They each pay half. B. Jim pays every time.
C. They take turns to pay. D. Their parents pay for them.
48. How does the author explain his ideas about root words
A. By giving a fact.
B. By taking an example.
C. By telling a story.
D. By having a discussion.
49. “Sen” from the Latin word means “old”. Which word uses this Latin root
A. My brother is my senior by two years.
B. He was ill so he was absent from school.
C. A criminal was sentenced to death by law.
D. 60 students were present at the sports meeting.
50. <新考法> Which of the following shows the structure (结构) of the passage

During those four years, you wrote to me many times and always encouraged me to make as many friends as possible. When I had trouble with my English, you told me many good ways to improve it. Besides,③ you were always sharing happiness with me. It made my life more colorful. I really appreciate you for your help. Now great changes have taken place in China. I hope you can come to China.④ You’ll have fun here.
Yours,

点评:短文采用“一点二提三收尾”的写作方法。先点明主旨;再描述以前“我”刚来时的感受;然后进一步描述Ben 是如何帮助“我”的;最后照应开头并发出邀请。用词恰当, 语意通顺, 前后照应。
添彩点:①用strange, lonely 描述了作者当时的感受。②用It was you who helped me a lot. 这一强调句型提升了作文的档次。③用Besides 一词使前后文衔接更加紧密。④最后发出邀请, 提升了写作效果。
