Are you worried about moving up to senior high It can be a new experience, but you shouldn't worry. We've put together a guide on how to survive the first week.
You're not alone!
Remember, everybody else in your year is on the same boat. They may not realize it,but they're just as nervous as you are. Moving to senior high is an opportunity, not a problem. Things are different and all you need to do is be polite and learn the new rules.
Teachers are ready to help!
If you are unsure what to do or are worried about anything, then you had better ask for help. Teachers are probably the best people to turn to as they're experienced in helping new students. Some senior high schools also have a “friends system”. If your school has this, then you will be paired with an older student. They will look out for you and help you if you have any problems or questions.
All change.
There are lots of differences between junior high and senior high. You'll have a homework diary or a student planner. You will have your lessons with different teachers in different rooms. You will have homework for different subjects on different days, so make sure you get organized. Make sure you have a copy of your school timetable written down so you know which rooms your classes are in and on which days you will have your different subjects.
Other points:
If you've got an elder brother or sister at the school then ask them for advice.
Be yourself! It sounds simple, but people will know you much better if you just act naturally.
Having early nights makes a difference and you'll find it easier to get up in the morning!

A.To tell students the importance of learning.
B.To warn students not to ignore friendship in senior high.
C.To make a difference when moving up to senior high.
D.To help new students to get used to the life in senior high.

Haley Curfman,25,of Blackwell,Oklahoma, is a teacher at Blackwell Public School and last year she bought a plain(朴素的) white dress, which she set up a station in her classroom for her students to decorate, encouraging them to go and draw on the dress whenever they had free time. Haley set up a station at a table with the dress and some colored markers so that her students could draw on it, having first seen the idea on Pinterest.
After the kids had finished the design, she then surprised them all by wearing the dress to class, sharing pictures of herself in it on Facebook in a post that has since been shared over 200,000 times.
For teachers looking to do something similar for their own students,Haley said that she bought the dress off Amazon for less than $20 about six months ago and pre-washed the dress before she started the project. She used markers from Walmart. But she said these things can be bought in other places. She said, “To do the project, I set up a station at a table with the dress and markers. It takes anywhere from two weeks to a month to complete as we just work on it here and there when time allows. You'd better give the students enough time so they don't have to hurry.”
“Teachers have been sharing their dresses, T-shirts, etc. with me that they've been creating since the 1950s with the same idea. It is amazing, and I love the fact that you are sharing them with me!Thank you all so much for your kindness and support,” she wrote on Facebook.
Asked why she came up with the idea, Haley told Scary Mommy. “We don't have art in our school, so,I always try to do little creative projects when possible.”

A.It took Haley by surprise.
B.It is kept by Haley at home.
C.It is the product of a new idea.

Where in the classroom do you prefer to sit,and why?Scientists have discovered that seating preference not only shows students' personalities, but has a great influence on their school performance. Generally speaking, students show different attitudes depending on where they sit. Based on the research, scientists have developed a funnel-like(像漏斗的) model of “learning zones(区域)” to see the relationship between seating and active learning.
In this model, the mouth of the funnel(A) is the best position for learning. Students in this front area prove to be the most active learners. They show a greater desire(渴求) for learning, which leads them to focus(集中注意力) better and take a more active part than the rest of the class. Those in the neck of the funnel(B) don't pay the same close attention, but they ask a lot of questions, partly because of the added confidence they feel from being in a safe zone, with others around them. Less desirable is the area “outside the funnel(C,D),” which refers to the side and the back rows, where students take a less active part in classroom activities and find it hard to focus their attention, falling asleep at times.
Studies about learning zones suggest that a change in traditional seating plans can benefit students. In fact, a growing number of teachers have begun less traditional seating plans, such as “U-Type”. There are no side and back areas, so teachers can expect their students to take part in activities more actively and increase student-teacher interaction(互动).
28.According to scientists, students' learning is greatly influenced by .
A.the number of students
B.the time of class
C.seating positions
D.the size of the classroom
29.What advantage do the students sitting in Area B over those in Area C,D?
A.Sometimes fall asleep.
B.Feel safe and confident.
C.Seldom ask their teachers questions.
D.Try to avoid looking directly at the teacher.
30.Which of the following is mentioned according to studies in the last paragraph?
A.An increasing number of teachers have started to use traditional seating plans.
B.Changing the traditional seating plans can be beneficial to students.
C.U-type is better than funnel-like model of “learning zones”.
D.If there are no side and back areas, students must be more active in learning.
31.From which is the text probably taken?
A.An education magazine.
B.An advertisement.
C.A life newspaper.
D.A science textbook.

A star athlete at the college where I work recently stopped by my office. After committing a few unforced errors during a weekend match, she suffered severely by self-criticism.
This student, like many I teach, strongly believes she should be able to control the outcomes of her life by virtue of her hard work.In her mind, “Nothing can stop me but myself”. So when these students fall short of what they imagine they should accomplish, they are filled with self-blame, reasoning, “If my accomplishments are mine to control, my failures must be entirely my faults, too”, which makes it extremely difficult for them to move on.
We often owe young adults struggling with failure to their parents' overprotection of them from discomfort. But there is another factor at play: a message transmitted by indulging (纵容的) parents who have falsely promised them that they can achieve anything if they are willing to work for it.However, the cruel reality of life is that you can do everything in your power—and still fail. Then what should be done to help
Psychologists Luthar and Kumar urge parents and teachers to spend time helping students find purpose, or goals they genuinely love to pursue and that make an impact on the world, which may help them gain greater life satisfaction and become more psychologically mature.Besides, instead of allowing our kids to beat themselves up when things don't go their way, we might all question a culture where one is considered lazy without full devotion. The point is to remind them that life has a way of sucker-punching(出其不意) us when we least expect it. It's often the people who learn to say “stuff happens” who get up the fastest.
32.What does the underlined phrase “by virtue of” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.In addition to. B.In spite of.
C.By means of. D.For fear of.
33.The author believes that young adults find it hard to struggle with failure because .
A.they are not taught how to deal with difficulties
B.they are short of the ability to handle failure
C.they are under the protection of their parents
D.they are misled by their parents' false message
34.What did psychologists Luthar and Kumar urge parents and teachers to do?
A.To teach students how to avoid faults.
B.To lead students to set their truly loved goals.
C.To help students to discover a path to success.
D.To allow kids to blame themselves.
35.What can be inferred from the passage?
A.Students don't care about failure at all.
B.Students are sure to succeed if they try their best.
C.Students should bear all the failures on their own.
D.Students with positive attitudes can move on more easily.

Have you ever wondered how you should respond to your children's angry feelings and behaviors Here are some practical tips that can help your children manage their anger.
Learn to let certain things go.
Do your children get in trouble with you if they cross their arms or yell about how life isn't fair? 36. Children should have the right to express their anger, and it's not going to come out in a mature(成熟的) way because their brains aren't yet mature. This is hard even for adults sometimes!
Remember that their behavior is not a reflection of you.
Believing that your children's behavior is a symbol of how good or bad you are as a caregiver often makes you feel embarrassed and angry. 37. Instead, remind yourself that behavior communicates how a child feels under the surface. Kids who behave this way are not trying to torture(折磨) you; they're struggling emotionally, and they need your help.
38.
Children with anger problems get lectures and consequences all day long. 39. If your children frequently hit others when they are angry and instead choose to hit a pillow, wait until they're calm, and then tell them how proud you are of their new behavior. They'll be more likely to repeat the improved behavior in the future.
Set boundaries.
Although it's crucial to stay calm and show compassion, that doesn't mean you should ignore unacceptable behaviors like damaging property or hurting others. 40. This can look like, “I'm not for hitting, but you can hit the pillow or the couch.”
A.Remain calm.
B.Praise any sign of progress.
C.Consider letting these behaviors go.
D.You may then react in ways you later regret.
E.They're often hungry for adults to notice that they're trying to change!
F.When your children do these things, give them an alternative (可替代的) way to let their anger go.
G.However, it's not possible to help a child get calm when you are also reacting with anger!

As I moved to the new city, I began my school life in a totally new school with new surroundings, new teachers and new classmates.During the first week, I felt lonely when I was at school. My classmates knew each other, but they didn't know me, which added to my loneliness and sadness. That week day after day, I was sitting on my seat, pretending to be reading. How I secretly wished that someone would come to me and introduce himself to me or even play a trick on me, but disappointingly, nobody came.
Then one day, when my parents sent me to the bus station and said good-bye to me, I didn't get on the bus to school as usual.Instead, I walked and walked on the street, looking at the beautiful window displays and forgetting everything, with no worry about the new school, new teachers and new classmates. Then my empty stomach stopped me and I used my pocket money to have a bowl of noodles in a small restaurant. It was noon at the time, but still I didn't want to go to school or go home.So I went to a park and sat on the bench, staring at the sky.And then I had a nap. When I woke up, I decided to go back to my hometown, where my former teachers and friends lived. So I went to the railway station. There I was stopped by a policeman, who asked for my ID card, which I didn't have at the time. Then the policeman called someone and I was asked to stay with him.

Dear Fred,

My school is so beautiful that I cannot think of leaving there for a day. The lofty trees, colorful flowers and the charming scenery attract me a lot. When I first arrived there, I was amazed by its wonderful, peaceful and warm atmosphere. Every day, my teachers teach me a lot of knowledge from different aspects such as Chinese, math, and English. It benefits me a lot. And there are my schoolmates. We play together every day, making plenty of fun. When we meet trouble on study, we always get together in a group. Talking about the quickest way to solve the problem, we strengthen our relationship. We become better friends. At the same time, we practice our minds.
I believe with the help of the teachers and my classmates I will have a great time in my school.

When I was ten years old, I was a grade four primary school student in a small town.I had a happy time at school because I had a few good friends there. We usually spent our spare time together, doing our homework, going to the amusement park, playing with our pets, and sharing our happiness and sorrows together. But everything changed when my parents decided to change their jobs and moved to a bigger city.I even had no time to say good-bye to my old friends and teachers.

Paragraph 1:
An hour later, I found my parents running towards me.They looked worried and exhausted. “Where have you been all day?” demanded my father angrily, “You are playing truant now, aren't you!” His eyes were fuming with rage. I felt aggrieved, tears in my eyes. I muttered, “There's nobody I can talk to in this city.” My mother hugged me, kissing my cheeks, and said “I am sorry, my dear. It's our fault not to have noticed this and given you our timely help. But next time you meet any problem, turn to us first.” Hearing this, though a little bit upset, I felt better with my parents' comfort.
Paragraph 2:
The next day, when I was sent to school by my parents, I was afraid that I would be punished. Instead when the class began, the teacher told the whole class that I was permitted a day off to hang around the city the day before and asked me to share what I'd seen.Surprised, I was glad to talk about those window displays and beautiful scenes in the park. When I finished, the applause shook the classroom.Later, I made friends with quite a few classmates, which made me really happy.I learned from my teacher later that it was my dad who asked her to do that. The white lie started a new life for me.
