2. A map of the world
Li Ming：Look at the map, Wang Mei. We can see all the countries around the world.
Wang Mei：Yes. I can see China. It’s red on the map. But where is New Zealand My grandparents will go there during the Spring Festival.
Li Ming：Well, can you see Australia
It’s southeast of China. And New Zealand is southeast of Australia.
Wang Mei：Yes, I see it. And where is Canada
Li Ming：It is north of the U.S.
Wang Mei：Oh, yes! It is green on the map! Danny is green, too.
Language points
1. north, south, east and west 都是方位词。
四个方位词的词性及用法。
north south east west 词性 词义 例句
名词 分别为北、北方；南、南方；东、东方；西、西方，常和定冠词the连用。 The sun rises in the east.

point at 指向较近的事物。指向某人时常有责备、抱怨之意。 You can’t point at your mother like that.你不能像那样指着你妈妈。
point to 指向较远的事物。指向某人时不含贬义。 He is pointing to a flying bird happily. 他正高兴地指着一只飞翔的小鸟。

3. country/ k ntr / 可数名词，翻译为“国家”。
e.g. China is a big country. 中国是一个大国。
country还可以翻译为“乡村”，此时country 常与the连用。
e.g. My aunt raises pigs in the country.
我的姑姑在乡下养猪。

e.g. Shanghai is southeast of Xi’an.

be＋方位词＋of表“在……的……方向”。
e.g. Qingdao is east of Shijiazhuang.
