第四部分 写作(共两节,满分 40分)
第一节(满分 15 分)
Dear Kevin,
Hearing that you want to learn Chinese mainly by watching movies, I’m writing to share with you my
opinion. I believe it may not be the most appropriate choice for the following reasons.
First of all, language learning involves several skills, such as listening, speaking, reading and writing.
Obviously, learning Chinese mainly by watching movies is not conducive to developing your integrated skills.
Besides, the language in the movie is set for the plot and may not match your language level, which may
prevent you from learning Chinese gradually and systematically.
Therefore, I suggest, besides watching movies, you should read more books and communicate with
native speakers frequently to practice your Chinese. In addition, taking some Chinese courses is also a good
choice. I am convinced that with the help of teachers, you can learn Chinese better.
Thanks for considering my suggestion.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua.

“How much do you have ” asked the man from Chicago. “47 cents!” Tess replied without any hesitation.
To her surprise, the man said that he was a doctor and that it was a fair price for a miracle. Overcome with
excitement,Tess grasped his hand, leading him to her home. With doubt and hope,Dad and Mom had
Andrew checked by the man,who declared that he would perform an operation on the boy and promised it
wouldn’t be long before he could pick himself up. Hearing his words, the whole family burst into tears of joy.
The operation was completed. Hardly had Andrew been sent back home when his parents went to thank
the doctor with Tess, for they knew that 47 cents was a joke for an operation. They promised to save enough
money to pay for the bill only to be told that Tess had paid for it. “It’s a fair deal,” the doctor explained to the
parents, and then looked into Tess’s eyes, smiling, “47 cents was what it cost—plus the faith of a little girl.”

Text 1
W: Can’t you knock on the door before you enter my office
M: Sorry! It’s just because I’m in such a hurry.
Text 2
W: I just sat down at my computer and realized that my phone was dead. Do you have a charger I can borrow
M: Yes, Catherine. I always bring an extra charger to work.
W: I usually do too! But I forgot to bring mine before getting on the train this morning.
Text 3
M: It’s going to take me forever to finish this maths homework, and I’m really not in the mood to do my science
homework after that!
W: At least you completed your history yesterday. If you do it a little faster, perhaps you’ll finish the science
earlier than you thought.
Text 4
M: Have you seen Mr. Arnold I’ve been searching everywhere for him.
W: From 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., he has a meeting. He’ll be back in his office after the meeting.
M: Thanks. I’ll check there later. There’s only an hour left.
Text 5
W: I’m sorry, Jack. I must decline your offer. Your company looks great, but I’d need a higher salary. I hope you
understand.
M: When I got your call, I thought you were ready to begin working. But I understand your concern.
Text 6
M: Mom, I bought a smart phone for you. Next month I will go to work in another country. You can still connect
with me on the Internet.
W: But I really don’t know how to use it. It’s hard for the old to learn new things.
M: It’s OK. I’ll teach you how to have a video chat.
W: All right. I will try my best to follow you. It will save a lot of money on phone bills anyway.
Text 7
M: Hi, Sue. Where have you been
W: Oh. Hi, Dan. I was just at the library. I have to hand in my biology paper tomorrow.
M: Tomorrow Oh, no! I thought it wasn’t due till Monday.
W: Don’t worry. It is indeed due on Monday. But I’m going away for the weekend and won’t be back till
Monday night.
M: Oh, where are you going
W: California. We’re having a family party. It’s my grandmother’s ninetieth birthday, so all the cousins, aunts
and uncles are going. She planned the whole thing herself.
M: Wow. That’s great. How many people will be there
W: Around sixty. My family is big and spreads out, but we’re pretty close.
Text 8
M: It’s such a pleasure to meet everyone. Thanks to people like you, small businesses everywhere have many
growth opportunities.
W: Thank you, Paul. And thanks for coming to my office to explain your company. Now you can begin.
M: OK. So, we all feel anxious to look our best. But clothing styles quickly change, and fashion isn’t cheap!

Plus, the more we buy, the more we waste. How many of us have over five clothing items that we never
wear
W: Good, how will you fix this
M: Through my service, Rental Trend.
W: How does it work
M: It’s a website where users can rent out their clothes. Anyone who is interested in those clothes can offer a
price and rent them. There will be many types of clothes. Whether it’s for a party, photo taking or vacation,
we try our best to meet people’s need.
W: Interesting, Paul. Have you borrowed from any banks
M: No. And because this company is only a year old, this is the first time I’ve come to sincerely invite you to
put money into our website. I’m sure you will see what a big difference you make. With your help, we can
bring fair fashion nationwide.
Text 9
W: Sorry to bother you, sir, but we’re looking into a report concerning the house opposite being broken into last
night. We are speaking to everyone who lives in the neighborhood to investigate what happened.
M: Goodness me, they’re friends of mine! Are they OK Did they take anything
W: Everyone is fine, sir. A watch and some pieces of jewelry are missing, which has been upsetting, but
thankfully no one was hurt.
M: How awful, but I’m glad they are okay.
W: May I ask you a few questions, sir
M: Of course.
W: Did you see anything unusual around eleven o’clock last night Something out of the ordinary, loud noises
perhaps, or activity that you wouldn’t normally see outside
M: Now that you come to mention it, I did notice some flashing lights from the house opposite around that time.
I remember thinking it was strange because they are an old couple and their lights are usually out by around
ten o’clock.
W: Did you see anyone
M: I did take a look as it happened. There was a white car parked outside their house. Oh, I’m so stupid — I
should have realized something was happening!
W: Is there anything else you can remember Anything at all Even if you don’t think it is important
M: Wait a minute!
W: What is it
M: I forgot to say I have an outside security camera! It must have recorded everything!
W: Excellent, sir! It may solve the case! Let’s take a look immediately!

I’m glad so many of you have come for the gardening class. Welcome, all of you.
Each week, we will be growing and looking after our plants, and I will show you all how to get the best out
of them. You will all have your own small section of land where you can choose which plants to grow. This
week, we want a bed of flowers to brighten up the place.
In the following weeks, you may wish to grow your own fruit and vegetables. I will be here to advise and
encourage you. I am here every day, so it is easy to come and find me if you have any questions. All I ask in
return is that you enjoy your time in the great outdoors. Gardening is such a wonderful thing to do. It’s good
exercise, and rewarding. Plus, when you garden in groups like this, it turns into a wonderful social event too.
Right then, let me show you to your areas. Follow me.

Some libraries use unique architecture to encourage visitors to settle down with a new book, or use
mobile libraries to bring books to hard-to-reach populations. No matter how they achieve it, these novel
libraries are keeping the magic of reading alive.
Beach Library (Albena, Bulgaria)
Reading a book on the beach is a classic, and in Bulgaria, one library encourages tourists to do just that.
The white, weather- resistant shelves lined up not far from the surf feature 6,000 books in 15 languages.
The Camel Library Service (North Eastern Province, Kenya)
To combat low literacy (识字) rates in the desert of Kenya, the government created a mobile library
composed of nine camels bringing books to villages. The library travels four days a week serving the region’s
people. Currently the service focuses on children, but with more funding they plan to increase their reach
both in distance and the titles they carry.
Bishan Library (Singapore)
Built in 2006, this library is meant to invoke (使想起) a modern glass treehouse. Glass pods (吊舱) of
varying colors stick out of the building randomly to create comfortable yet airy corners for reading
throughout the building. At the same time, a more open-plan children’s room on the basement level invites
interaction while preventing noise from going up and disturbing those concentrating in the high places above.
Seikei University Library (Tokyo, Japan)
Libraries are usually known for their quiet atmosphere, but this one encourages conversation. Pritzker
Prize-winner Shigeru Ban designed the library with space-age, free-standing soundproofed pods to respect
those who need uninterrupted study, while also being conducive (有助于) to other methods of learning.
Macquarie University Library (Sydney, Australia)
A surprising combination of the cutting edge and sustainability, this building was made from recycled
materials, features a green roof, and was designed to imitate the look of a eucalyptus tree (桉树). It is also
state of the art, using robot cranes to bring requested books to the front desk.
21. Which of the following is true about the Camel Library Service
A. It currently serves only children. B. All residents in Kenya can enjoy it.
C. More children will benefit from it. D. The region’s people can enjoy it every day.
22. Which library is a perfect spot for study groups and lively discussions
A. Bishan Library. B. Beach Library.
C. Macquarie University Library. D. Seikei University Library.

23. What do Bishan Library and Macquarie University Library have in common
A. Their design is related to trees. B. They are made of glass.
C. They are environmentally friendly. D. They use high technology to serve readers.

Wild bison (野牛) are to return to the UK for the first time in 6,000 years, with the release of one male
and three females in Blean woods in Kent soon. The $1m project to reintroduce the animals will help secure
the future of an endangered species. But they will also naturally regenerate a former pine (松树) wood
plantation by killing off trees.
Populations of the UK’s most important wildlife have greatly plummeted since 1970. Britain is one of
the countries suffering great species loss in the world, despite the best efforts of conservationists.
Paul Hadaway, from Kent Wildlife Trust, said: “The Wilder Blean project will prove that a wilder,
nature-based solution is the right one to tackle the climate and nature crisis we now face. Using missing
keystone species like bison to restore natural processes to habitats is the key to creating biodiversity in our
landscape.”
Known as “ecosystem engineers”, bison kill selected trees by eating their bark or using them as a tool to
remove their thick winter fur (皮毛). This creates a big dead wood dinner for insects, which provide food for
birds. Tree felling also creates sunny clearings where plants can grow healthily.
The bison will not be given any food or artificial shelters, though their health will be monitored by
observing their coats and examining their waste. “We need to keep them as wild as possible for the project to
succeed,”said Hadaway. But he said there was no intention to introduce enemies such as wolves.
“It’s increasingly clear that daring and imaginative rewilding is urgently needed to tackle the country’s
worrying loss of wildlife,” said Rebecca Wrigley, of Rewilding Britain. She said far more needed to be done
across the UK to reintroduce large animals feeding on plants and let them do their magic.
Hadaway said: “Sometimes in the rewilding debate people think that it’s a look back to the past, but
that’s not what we’re about. We’re about trying to find the right natural solution for the modern world.”
24. What is the purpose of the Wilder Blean project
A. To prevent Kent’s extreme weather events.
B. To restore biodiversity in Blean woods.
C. To increase the number of pine trees in Kent.
D. To kill off non-native species in Blean woods.
25. What does the underlined word “plummeted” in paragraph 2 mean
A. increased. B. recovered. C. remained. D. dropped.
26. Why are bison called “ecosystem engineers”
A. They help create improved habitats for many species.
B. They protect birds from their natural enemies.
C. They adapt to various living environments quickly.
D. They feed on dead trees and bushes.

A. It is a look back to the past. B. It is against the laws of nature.
C. It should be promoted in other areas. D. It should be more imaginative.

I’ve been keeping an honesty journal for the past several months. The day I started the journal, my
6-year-old daughter asked me if the cat really went to sleep last year, and if that actually meant that I had
killed him. I sighed, wondering if I should wait to start this honesty project until she was grown-up. But I
braved it and told her that yes, I had made the choice for him to die, because he was suffering. She lost
interest about halfway through my explanation.
It struck me that the choice to lie or be honest was often a choice between two equally undesirable things.
Telling my daughter the truth did not make me happier, but lying wouldn’t have either.
Overall, I found that I struggled more with the small instances of honesty, rather than the big. So, when a
client accidentally paid me twice for a project, there was no internal debate. It was $1,000, so obviously, I
notified the client. But when the McDonald’ s drive-through cashier gave me an extra dollar in change and
the line had been so long and my kids were acting crazy in the back seat ... it was a different story. Even
though I gave the dollar back, I almost didn’t.
Even though honesty felt like a struggle, I started to like how it felt. When I was more honest, I tended
to feel better about my relationships and myself. I like the saying, “Everybody wants the truth, but nobody
wants to be honest.” I didn’t always want to be honest. But I wanted the truth, and this focus on honesty
helped me feel that I was doing my part.
The bottom line is that focusing on honesty is a way to actively engage with the world, instead of
passively complaining about it. It might even make you feel as if you have gold in your brain.
28. How did the author’s daughter react to her explanation
A. She paid little attention to it B. She thought it was incredible.
C. She praised the author for her bravery. D. She would rather the author lied to her.
29. What lesson did the author learn from the cat event
A. Honesty could make people happier. B. Lying to a little child seemed wrong.
C. Lying and honesty were a tricky pair. D. Honesty should come before lying.
30. What does the author want to show by mentioning her McDonald’s experience
A. It’s crazy to choose to be honest.
B. People tend to ignore honesty concerning small things.
C. It’s the small instances that test one’s honesty.
D. People are likely to have two characters.
31. What is the author’s opinion on honesty
A. It is impossible to expect it. B. It is hard to learn from it.
C. It is reasonable to popularize it. D. It is good to focus on it.

For over a decade, Zubin Kanga, a pianist, composer and technologist, has changed the limits of the
forms of musical performances. He has both organized and performed shows that have pushed barriers, with
motion sensors, artificial intelligence (AI), live-generated 3D visuals and virtual reality among the
technological advancements used to unlock new possibilities of music and performances.
Kanga’s approach to employing cutting-edge technology was first informed by the relative limitations of
his chosen instrument. “The piano is a very accurate technology,” he says. “From the early 20th century till
now it hasn’t really changed at all. It’s an amazing instrument, but it does have certain limitations in terms of
the types of sound you can create.”
One of the early works is Steel on Bone, composed by Kanga himself. He performs the piece using
MiMU multi-sensor gloves. “I can put up one finger, and that’ll produce a particular sound,” Kanga explains.
“And then I can control that sound just by moving my wrist through the air — I can do that with lots of
different gestures.”
“For Steel on Bone, I’m actually playing inside the piano with these steel knitting (编织) needles, and
getting all these interesting effects on the strings. Then I’m using samples of them. Sometimes I’m using live
delays and operating them. The sound can change depending on how my hands are moving. It allows me to
make a very theatrical piece, and people can see this immediate connection between how I’m moving —
these very big, almost conductor-like gestures through the air — and the way the sound is changing,” said
Kanga.
This is just the start, and Kanga goes on to be enthused with the use of motion sensors to make music,
the possibilities that AI offers composers as a tool, and how virtual reality could transform performances and
more.
32. What do technological advancements do for music and performances
A. Remove music barriers. B. Make performances professional.
C. Popularize musical performances. D. Bring new performance forms.
33. Why does Kanga talk about the piano in paragraph 2
A. To indicate its stability. B. To prove its rare accuracy.
C. To clarify why he uses technology. D. To show it has a long history.
34. How does Kanga perform Steel on Bone
A. By moving his hands in the air. B. By pressing the piano keys.
C. By beating the steel knitting needles. D. By making very small gestures.
35. Which can be the best title for the text
A. Technology: When It Replaces Music
B. Zubin Kanga: When Music Meets Technology
C. Virtual Reality: Future of Performances
D. AI Music: From Composing to Performing

I believe almost everyone would like two things from their jobs and careers: success and happiness. They
want to do relatively well financially, receive fair recognition for their accomplishments, enjoy their work as
much as one can, and become happier as a person as a result. So many people, especially ambitious,
hard-working people, simplify them in a logical way: They first seek success and then assume that success
will lead to happiness. 36 . Chasing success has costs that can end up lowering happiness.
This is not to say that you have to choose between success and happiness. 37 . But you have to
reverse (颠倒) the order of operations: Instead of trying first to get success and hoping it leads to happiness,
start by working on your happiness, which will enhance your success.
Whether you are an employee or employer, it is a better investment to increase happiness at work and in
life, rather than simply trying to increase measures of success.
38 . No matter how much you enjoy your work, overwork will become an obstruction (阻碍) to
well-being.
Once work quantity is under control, happiness at work requires a sense of meaning and purpose.
39 . Earned success implies a sense of accomplishment and recognition for a job well done, while
service to others requires knowledge of the real people who benefit from your work.
Ultimately, although success and happiness are linked, the magic mostly works one-way — and not in
the way that most people think. Working on your success to get happier is inefficient at best, and may lead
you to unhappiness. 40 .
A. You can obtain both
B. But this reasoning is faulty
C. It’s fairly reasonable to think this way, though
D. It’s dangerous to pursue success instead of happiness
E. The first thing to remember is that happiness requires balance
F. But working on your happiness gives you the best chance at getting both

第二节 (满分 25 分)

Price of a Miracle (奇迹)
Tess was an eight-year-old girl when she heard her mom and dad talking about her little brother,Andrew.
All she knew was that he was very sick and they were completely out of money.
Only a very costly operation could save him now and it was looking like there was no one to lend them
the money. She heard Dad say to her tearful mom with desperation, “Only a miracle can save him now.”
Tess went to her bedroom and poured all the change she had saved out on the floor and counted it
carefully: 47 cents. She slipped out of home and made her way to Rexall’s Drug Store. She waited patiently
for the pharmacist to give her some attention but he was too busy at this moment. Finally, she took a quarter
from her pocket and banged it on the glass counter. That did it! “And what do you want ” the pharmacist
asked in an annoyed tone of voice. “I’m talking to my brother from Chicago Medical University whom I
haven’t seen in ages,” he said without waiting for a reply to his question.
“Well, I want to talk to you about my brother,” Tess answered back in the same annoyed tone. “He’s
really, really sick and I want to buy a miracle.”
“We don’t sell miracles here, little girl. I’m sorry but I can’t help you,” the pharmacist said, softening a
little. “Listen,I have the money to pay for it. If it isn’t enough,I will get the rest. Just tell me how much it
costs.” Tess answered with a blind faith.
The pharmacist’s brother was a well-dressed man. He stooped down and asked the little girl, “What kind
of a miracle does your brother need ” “I don’t know,” Tess replied with her eyes welling up.
“I just know he’s really sick and Mom says he needs an operation. But my dad can’t pay for it,so I want
to use my money.”
