Unit 1 How can we become good learners
本单元主题属于“人与自我”范畴,涉及“积极的学习体验,恰当的学习方法与策略,勤学善思”。讲述了学生学习中会遇到的问题及对应的解决方法,对学生的学习有重要意义。
Section A内容上侧重英语学习的方法,学生要学习、训练相关的语言内容和技能。学生要重点掌握并能熟练、正确地运用与学习主题相关的单词和各种表达学习方法的短语及句型结构“How do you study/learn…?I study/learn…by…How can I…?You can…by…”以及学会用“by+doing”结构来表达方式方法。
Section B在Section A谈论英语学习的基础上,从以下几个方面进行深入学习。在话题上,从英语的学习中遇到的困难及解决方案,拓展到优秀学习者的学习习惯;在语言上,巩固和丰富了与学习相关的话题词汇;在技能上,将听、说能力综合,突出阅读训练,以读促写;在策略上,引导学生关注优秀学生的学习方式,并借鉴运用;在情感上,鼓励学生面对困难,积极探索解决方案,不断改进学习方法,提高学习效率。
1.学习使用关于表达学习方法和陈述学习过程中存在问题的词汇。
2.能听懂并表述有效的学习方法、学习中存在的困难、问题及相应的建议。
3.能正确理解本单元提供的文化背景及相关阅读材料,了解国外中学生的学习生活。
4.能以适当的形式向别人介绍学习英语的方法、同别人交流学习经验。
1.重点:使用“by+doing”的结构表述学习方式。
2.难点:学会用目标语言谈论学习方法。
Unit 1 How can we become good learners
导入一 视频导入
利用视频,展示有关英语学习方法的图片,让学生根据图片中的提示信息,发挥想象,谈论学习英语的方法,可以从听、说、读、写四个方面的技能展开讨论。

S:I improve my listening skill by listening to tapes.
导入二 情境导入
创设场景,教师展示更多的学习方式,必要时教师可以提前准备作业本、英语故事书、英文影片等。这些方式可能包括by doing exercises,by reading English books,by watching English movies等,然后引入新课。

导入三 对话导入
引导学生发挥想象,谈论自己在学英语时遇到的困难。可以从英语口语(spoken English)、发音(pronunciation)以及语法(grammar)等方面展开想象,引导学生以对话的方式导入新课。

1.听说课
(1)Pair work(两两对话,谈论如何备考)

B:I study by…(注意要求学生使用完整的句子来进行回答)
(2)Role-play(分角色表演,帮助学生整体理解对话,引导学生学习对话中的语言表达方式,并收集整理)
Step 1 帮助学生整体理解对话,将全班分成两组,集体朗读对话,回答下列问题。

Step 2 让学生单独阅读对话并回答下列问题。
How does Jack feel at the beginning
What makes him have this kind of feeling
What's Jack's problem when he reads And what does Annie suggest
What's Jack's problem with words And what's Annie's advice
Step 3 老师提示学生对话中值得关注的语言点。如:
a little nervous,word by word,more than,be patient
The more you read,the faster you'll be.
Step 4 教师要求学生有感情地朗读对话并进行练习。请部分学生展示、表演对话,教师注意对其语音、语调及情感进行点评。

把班上学生分成几个小组,讨论以下问题并进行小组比赛,看哪一组完成得又快又好!

利用思维导图,帮助学生用自己的话复述课文。

1.学习使用how来询问做事的方式。
2.学习使用“by+doing”结构表述学习方式。
1.指导学生仔细聆听谈论学习方法的对话,学会用英语谈论平时的学习方法。
2.引导学生通过开展小组学习活动,培养协作意识,并能认识到学习方法的重要性,学会用好的学习方法指导有效的学习。

2.难点:学会用目标语言谈论学习方法。

Step 2  Work on 1a~1c
1a:Ask the students to complete 1a (add other ways they sometimes study) individually first,then check their answers in groups.
1b:Play the recording for the students to listen to and complete 1b.Play it again if necessary,then check the answers together.
1c:The teacher asks two students to read the conversation in 1c to the class.Then ask them to do the pair work to make other conversations.After that some pairs should be asked to present their conversations to the class.
【设计意图】让学生围绕中心话题进行一定的语言学习与积累,并做进一步的语言实践活动,从而对所学目标语言有一定的理解,并在老师和同伴的帮助下学习运用目标语言进行初步交流。
Step 3 Listening(2a~2b)
2a:Ask the students to read the questions in 2a.Make sure they can understand the meaning of each question.Then the students listen and check the questions they heard.Play the recording 2 or 3 times if necessary,then check the answers.
2b:Let the students read the sentences in 2b individually.Then listen and match each answer with a question in 2a.They should be given enough time to complete it.
【设计意图】2a,2b以听力训练的方式,让学生更深层次地理解和巩固所学目标语言,并提取和处理相关信息完成相应的听力任务,与此同时也达到了提高学生听力水平的目的。
Step 4 Work on 2c
Ask students to make conversations in pairs,using the information in 2a and 2b.
【设计意图】进行初步的语言实践,鼓励学生大胆开口,巩固所学的功能句型。
Step 5 Role-play the conversation in 2d
1.Let the students read the conversation individually and answer the questions:
(1)Who has the problem And who's going to help

2.Play the recording and get students to listen and repeat,and then role-play the conversation.
3.Ask several pairs to act it out.
4.Let students make up their own conversations in pairs and act it out.

1.进一步熟悉与话题相关的词汇和句型,并能对一些学习中出现的问题给出相应的建议。
2.学习“do sth.by doing”结构的功能意义,并能初步使用这种语言结构完成适当的任务。
1.学生能读懂有关如何学习英语的文章。
2.学生根据所学内容,针对学习中的困难,可以与他人交流分享自己的学习方法。

1.重点:让学生能理解、认读本课时的重点单词和短语及掌握目标语言by doing sth.来表达学习方式的用法,理解本单元的语法结构及其表意功能。
2.难点:让学生能在口语中熟练询问他人学习英语的方法,并将书中学到的学习方法运用到实际中以及运用所学内容进行简单的写作。

Step 2 Presentation
1.While sharing how to learn English,present the new words.
2.Ask students to talk about how to learn English and try to use the new words and expressions.
【设计意图】导入阅读课,激发学生继续阅读的兴趣和动机,为学生顺利阅读提供相关信息支持。
Step 3 Reading
●Before reading
Ask students to predict what they will read in this passage with the help of the title and the picture.Make sure not to read the words in the passage.Show some questions to let the students to answer.
●While reading
1.Let students scan the passage and check their predictions.
2.Get students to read the passage and try to find out the answers to the questions in 3a,and encourage students to ask their partners for help if needed.Then check the answers.
3.Ask students to read the passage more carefully again,and focus on the details about “…learn English by…”.Complete 3b.
●After reading
1.Get students to make sentences with the language points:an English movie called Toy Story,fall in love with…,the secret to…,a piece of cake,It serves someone right and so on.
2.Retell the story according to the key words.

Step 4 Grammar Focus
1.Ask the students to read the questions and answers in the grammar box .
2.Show the questions and answers on PPT and circle the word “by” and the words with “-ing” in each sentence.Point out the four phrases that start with “by” and end with “-ing” words.Tell students when they should use the structure.
3.Then ask the students to do the pair work to practice the questions and answers in the grammar box.

Step 5 Work on 4a,4b & 4c
1.Ask students to read the sentences,and then match the questions with answers in 4a.
2.Ask students to make sentences using the structure “do sth.by doing”.Use information that is true for you and fill in the blanks in 4b.
3.Work in pairs and encourage students to summarize the useful ways of learning English and then make their own learning plan at last,ask students to report.

Step 6 Homework

Read the list in 1a and find the statements that are true for you.
Step 3 Practice(1b)
Ask the students what other things are difficult for them and get them to make a list.

Step 4 Listening(1c)
T:Paul is a nice boy.He works hard at his English,but still has many learning challenges,Now listen to the tape and find
out what challenges he has and check them in the box.
Ask the students to go over the items 1-4 firstly,then play the recording for the students to listen to and ask them to complete the learning challenges that Paul talks about.If necessary,play the recording a second time to complete 1c.Then check the answers.
Step 5 Listening(1d)
Listen again.Complete the solutions in 1d.
Ask the students to go over the four sentences in 1d and ask them to guess the meanings of these sentences.Then let the students listen to the tape and complete the solutions,Check the answers in pairs.
【设计意图】尽可能帮助学生在真实的语言情景中进一步体会目标语言的表达运用,同时也提高了学生听的语言技能。
Step 6 Pair-work(1e)
Ask the students to role-play the conversations using the information in 1c and 1d.Then ask several pairs to present their conversations to the class.

1.Divide the whole class into several groups to discuss their troubles in English learning.

1.Let students read the expressions in 3b by themselves.
2.Ask the students to write a letter to their friends.Give him/her some advice about the best ways to learn English.Use their notes in 3a and the useful expressions in 3b.
