Unit 2 I think that mooncakes are delicious!
本单元主题属于“人与社会”范畴,涉及“世界主要国家的文化习俗与文化景观、节假日与庆祝活动”。学生不仅能学会相关的语言知识,而且还能学习到中西方节日的文化和风俗习惯。
Section A侧重介绍我国的传统节日,学生在学习时,应该重点掌握由that,if/whether引导的宾语从句来表达自己的态度和看法,并且能够使用由how和what引导的感叹句,学会与节日相关的词语(包括节日的名称、与节日相关的专属用词)以及各种描述性词语(形容词及其习惯表达法)等。
Section B主要围绕西方的两个节日——Halloween和Christmas来展开,介绍西方国家的节日文化,侧重节日的文化内涵,让学生更深层次地理解西方文化。课前,教师可以鼓励学生进行课外阅读了解西方节日文化,不仅可以拓展学生的视野,也可以节省课堂的时间,同时也便于学生理解听力和阅读中的内容,减轻因背景文化积累不足所带来的学习压力。语言方面,学生要学习与这两个节日相关的专属文化词汇,进一步强化本单元的重点句型结构;技能方面,通过“听说入手→突出阅读→创写语篇”的过程培养学生的综合语言技能;策略方面,侧重训练学生对阅读的深层理解,即除了了解语言的表层含义外,还应该培养学生的推断能力,能读懂字里行间的深层含义;情感方面,教育学生要懂得:关爱、同情及怜悯之心是人类社会的宝贵财富,应当继承和弘扬,要以爱心回报社会。

2.了解由that,if和whether引导的宾语从句和what和how引导的感叹句,并学会运用这些语言结构谈论有关节日的话题,表达自己对某些节日的观点和看法。
3.能正确理解本单元提供的文化背景及相关阅读材料,了解中外各种节日习俗。在阅读实践活动中,学生的“inferring”阅读策略运用的能力得到提升。
4.能感受到交流的乐趣,逐步养成用英语主动与他人交流的习惯;通过本单元的学习实践,能让学生在生活中关注中外文化,加深对外国习俗的理解。

教师利用书本插图、自备图片或者课件呈现本单元涉及到的各种节日,教授并板书节日名称以及与这些节日相关的文化专属用词。可以参考以下问题:

Step 2 Work on 1a~1c
1a:
1.Ask the students to complete 1a individually first,then check the answers and read the descriptions in 1a with their partners.
2.Ask the students to read the conversation in 1a,and try to describe pictures a-d in pairs.Then let some pairs present their conversations to the class.

B:I loved the races! But I guess it was a little too crowded.
1b:Ask the students to read the sentences in lb,then play the recording for the students to listen and circle T for true or F for false.Play the recording a second time if necessary,then check the answers together.
1c:Ask two students to read the conversation in 1c to the class.Then ask the students to make other conversations to talk about the festivals in 1a.After that,let some pairs present their conversations to the class.

Step 3 Listening(2a~2b)
2a:Ask the students to look through the sentences in 2a.Make sure they can understand the meaning of each sentence.Then ask the students to listen to the conversation between Wu Ming and Harry and circle the correct words in the sentences.Play the recording 2 or 3 times if necessary,then check the answers.
2b:Wu Ming did a lot of fun activities,but there were also downsides.Then ask the students to listen and fill in the chart individually.Play the recording 2 or 3 times if necessary.They should be allowed enough time to complete it.Check the answers together.

Step 4 Work on 2c
Ask students to read aloud the model conversation in 2c.Then let the students make conversations in pairs,using the information in 2a and 2b.Finally ask some pairs to present their conversations to the class.

Step 5 Role-play the conversation in 2d

Show some pictures or songs of some Chinese festivals (the Spring Festival,the Mid-Autumn Festival,the Lantern Festival,the Dragon Boat Festival) and foreign festivals (Thanksgiving Day,April Fool's Day,Christmas,Halloween) to play a guessing game.Then ask some students to tell the dates of the four foreign festivals.
