Exercise you can do at home
Walking
An effective walking workout at home will help to strengthen your legs, while getting some low-impact aerobic exercise as well. If you don't have any stairs available, just walk around the house a few times-it may not be very exciting, but it will do the job!
Jumping jacks
These are always fun, as they bring back memories of being a kid! Who hasn't done jumping jacks for fun as a child Well, surprise!—They are also great cardio exercise, and good for warming up, too.
Push-ups
These are probably not the most favorite exercise of many people, but while they can be hard to do, you can find easier ways to do them. You don't need to pretend you're "Rocky", and do them with one hand: just do what works on you. Do them on your knees, instead of keeping your legs straight. Or do them by standing up against a wall. You will build up arm strength and exercise muscles in your chest area.
Leg lifts
These are great for building up strength and muscles in your legs. If you find it hard to do the exercise with your legs straight, try bending them slightly.
Crunches
They're the best exercise for building up and strengthening belly muscles. When you're just getting started, don't worry about getting your head all the way up. As long as you're going up until you feel the stretch(伸展) of the muscles, you will see some benefit.
Jogging in place
Jogging is great exercise for your heart. You can jog in place at home while watching TV or listening to music. The only equipment you will require is a good pair of shoes, to eliminate(消除) any stress on your legs.
Squats
These are wonderful exercise for your legs and bottom. You can even just try these by sitting and standing up again from a regular chair, if you're finding them to be too difficult. As long as you're able to do a few rounds, you will provide some benefit for your body.
Dancing
Dancing is wonderful exercise, which is great for your heart. Not only that, but it can lift your spirits as well, and give your overall feeling a boost.

The Day Lisa Lost
Don't get me wrong. I'm not talking about the many professional athletes of today who have developed a me-first attitude. I am talking about high school sports, where lessons of life are still being learned. Here, athletes still compete for the love of the game and their teammates. Lisa Kincaid is one of them.
I first met Lisa in the volleyball court. If anyone had a right to be cocky(自大的) or proud of herself, it was Lisa. Besides being one of the best volleyball players in the USA, she became a track and field legend. She participated in sixty-four national games without losing any event.
However, she felt uncomfortable talking about her achievements and would usually change the conversation to others' performances. She often lent her shoes to someone who'd forgotten her own, or sincerely sent best wishes to competitors from different teams.
Soon after, Lisa's impossible failure in one game impressed me a lot. Lisa's coach told her he needed her to run the mile. She had never done so, but agreed to do what was best for the team. Lisa easily outdistanced the competitors, but on the last lap she seemed to grow tired. Jane, Lisa's teammate, passed her. Lisa managed to stay just behind Jane and followed her across the finish line. Lisa lost an event for the first time in her track and field career.
Athletes in Lisa's track and field program needed to earn a set amount of points to gain a varsity letter(校队标志徽章). Lisa knew that Jane needed to finish first to earn a varsity letter for the first time. Without Lisa, Jane would make it. Lisa remembered all this as she lined up for the start of that race. It suddenly struck me why she wore a slight smile on her face after having "lost" for the first time ever. Jane finally received her first varsity letter. And Lisa On that day, the day she lost, she earned my respect and admiration.
4.Why did the author list Lisa's achievements
A.To prove Lisa was proud of herself.
B.To present Lisa performed well at sports.
C.To show that athletes have a right to be cocky.
D.To remind athletes to have all-round development.
5.From the passage, what can we learn about Lisa
A.She valued the importance of respect.
B.She intended to prove herself in the race.
C.She won every race she had ever entered.
D.She cared less about what she had achieved.
6.Why did Lisa wear a smile on her face after the race
A.Because she did a deal with Jane.
B.Because she lent her shoes to others.
C.Because she carried out her secret plan.
D.Because she already earned her varsity letter.
7.Which of the following word can best describe Lisa according to the passage
A.Selfless. B.Brave. C.Patient. D.IndeDendent.
C
In the competition of Olympic weightlifting, the athletes try to lift the heaviest weight they can. There are special conditions they have to meet in order to compete: body weight, height and strength.
The Olympic weightlifting competition mainly tests the limit of explosive strength(爆发力). There are not many weightlifters who really like the competition and the explanation is very simple: they are short of explosive strength.
The weights used for the Olympic weightlifting competition change by the kilogram. The order in which the athletes enter the competition is not general, but set depending on the event. Usually the athlete with the lightest weight begins. If he/she is not successful, he/she can try again later. There is a maximum of three lifts allowed for every competition.
For many years the Olympic weightlifting competition was only for men. However, now women also take part in the competition. It was at the beginning of the 21st century that women's competitions entered an organized professional environment. For women, the competition is more difficult because of their different body structure. However, strength training techniques are widely and successfully used by women, too.
Lots of athletes who've ended up in Olympic weightlifting competitions have started with strength training only to improve their muscle condition and their body power. However, the demarcation line(界线)is still not very clear between power training and competitions. This is why so many weightlifters have got into the Olympic weightlifting competition, even if their purpose was different in the beginning.
8.What do athletes need in the competition of Olympic weightlifting
A.The right age. B.Good eyesight.
C.The right body structure. D.The right strength.
9.How many more times can a weightlifter try if he/she fails for the first time
A.One. B.Two. C.Three. D.Four.
10.What can we learn from Paragraph 4
A.Men often do better than women in weightlifting.
B.Women need to use different training techniques from men.
C.Men can learn the training techniques better than women.
D.Women used not to be allowed to compete in Olympic weightlifting competitions.
11.According to the passage, why did many weightlifters practice at first
A.Because they wanted to take part in the Olympics.
B.Because they wanted to get an award in the competition.
C.Because they wanted to strengthen their body power.
D.Because they wanted to test the limit of their explosive strength.

In July of 2021, Julia, a curious 5-year-old little girl, followed her dad into the unforgiving and dangerous Siberian wilderness near their home located in the remote region of the Sakha Republic.
At first, Julia's mother May believed Julia had gone with her father to visit her grandma. Unfortunately, the area they lived in was so remote that it did not have cell phone service, so she could not call her husband to confirm. It was only after her husband returned two days later that they realized Julia had made her way into the thick forest unnoticed and became lost.
Panicked and concerned, Julia's family instantly called for help. It wasn't long before hundreds of people showed up to seek the girl. Rescue workers, police, firefighters, and volunteers searched like crazy for the girl. They also got the aid of six search dogs, and a helicopter with technology to look for Julia in the dark but with no luck after a day's search.
Julia's family feared the worst, primarily since the area was well known for wild animals such as wolves and bears. Not to mention the fact that it was Siberia, which meant it got bitterly cold at night. Many of the rescuers were forced to face the reality that the girl was most likely dead. They knew a small child wouldn't last long out in the cold with little to protect her.
Early in the next morning, the police officer David who was in charge of the search hurried to Julia's house to ask May for more details. It suddenly occurred to May that a neighborhood dog, which Julia named Nadia, would probably follow her into the forest.
"Julia spares her food and feeds Nadia every day and gradually Julia has developed a close bond with the wandering dog. They are attached to each other and always inseparable. They must be together now, aren't they " May looked into David's eyes and asked eagerly.
David was about to reply when a dog ran into the house.

根据Push-ups部分中的最后一句“You will build up arm strength and exercise muscles in your chest area.”
根据Jogging in place部分中的“Jogging is great exercise for your heart.”及Dancing部分中的“Dancing is wonderful exercise, which is great for your heart.”
7.答案:A
故选A。B.勇敢的;C.耐心的;D.
C
根据第一段中的“There are special conditions they have to meet in order to compete: body weight, height and strength.”
根据第三段中的“There is a maximum of three lifts allowed for every competition.”
根据第四段中的“For many years the Olympic weightlifting competition was only for men." used to do意为“曾经做……,过去常常做……”,used not to do是其否定形式,表示“曾经不做……,过去不常做……”。
根据最后一段中的“Lots of athletes...have started with strength training only to improve their muscle condition and their body power.”
13.答案:A
故选A。
D项中的Crowned意为“被加冕为……”,与“he's a national champion and a world record holder”呼应。
C项中的“feel confident”与上一句中的“feel good about themselves”相照应。
1-5.CBDAD; 6-10.BBCDA; 11-15.CABDC
根据“I didn't like any of them”可知,作者不喜欢这些运动,都是爸爸强迫作者做的。故选C。
2. 上文提到作者从小就接触了很多项运动,再结合“I didn't like any of them”可知,上下文形成转折关系。
9. 根据上文“All I knew about Zumba was that it was basically...”
10. one's cup of tea 故选A。
11. 根据文章第一句中的“due to my fear of sports”可知,此处指教练的话消除了作者对体育运动的恐惧(fear)。故选C。
12. 根据上文教练的话和下文“I didn't even have to be good.” 故选A。
13. 根据教练的话“Don't worry about the steps. Have fun. Do your own thing.”
14. 根据“and it also did so much more”可知,前面讲的是尊巴舞的一个好处,故推断尊巴舞挽救(save)了作者,使其避免了增重15磅。故选D。
且此处与第一段中的“Exercise and t had never had a good relationship”呼应,故选C。
第二节
答案:①who/that②went③fitness④actually⑤or⑥to⑦comparing⑧herself⑨a⑩healthier
由and前面的分句中的“worried about her weight and tried every diet”可知这里应用一般过去时,故填went。
或……”,故填or。
add sth. to sth.
stop doing sth.
make a list of...
Dear Jim,
I am glad to learn that you would like to exercise to keep fit. I believe running is the best choice.
First of all, running helps quicken the flow of blood and increase oxygen in the body, which strengthen the immune system. What's more, running can become along-term hobby, since it takes only a pair of running shoes and can easily be added to your schedule. Last but not least, running can make you mentally healthy.
Just put on your trainers and get started. Then keep going. I'm sure you will get a lot out of running.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
答案:
David was about to reply when a dog ran into the house. "It's Nadia," May exclaimed in surprise, racing over and holding Nadia's neck. Exhausted and out of breath, the dog bit May's sleeve and signed to her to follow it. "Nadia must know where Julia e on!" David said firmly. May picked up a blanket and hurried to set out with David. With Nadia leading the way through the forest, they eventually entered a secret cave.
In the cave lay Julia, still alive. "Julia!" Covering Julia with the blanket, May called Julia constantly, but Julia was too weak to speak. David instantly carried her outside onto the helicopter he had contacted. Julia was saved in time and then told the whole story. The first day she wandered in the forest with Nadia, she got lost and hid in the cave. Nadia got her some fruit and tried to keep animals at bay. When Julia learned it was Nadia that returned to bring help back, her face lit up with happiness and gratitude.
