Sooner or later, most students are to take some form of English examinations. Often the more successful students are better prepared. However, sometimes students who do well have better test-taking skills. These abilities really have nothing to do with understanding English better. They are skills that make taking the test easier, and therefore provide better results.
Here are some very important — and often ignored — guidelines(指导方针) to take a test successfully.
Do not insist on completing each question before going to the next. This is extremely important. Remember one question may only be worth one point! You will become nervous when you fail to find out its answer, making you lose your concentration and leading to worse results. However, answering the questions you are sure you know results in your being more relaxed and feeling more confident.
Go through the test a second time to work out the answers to more difficult questions. Sometimes questions asked are answered in later questions asking for different things.
Usually (but not always) a strong first impulse (冲动) means we know the answer and we don't really have to think about it too much. Going back to think about it usually makes you unsure and often causes a mistake. This is very common, so be very careful!
If you don't know the answer, write something. If you are answering a 4-possibility multiple-choice question you will still have a 25% chance of being correct!
Taking a test is as much for you as for your teacher, so never cheat. If you cheat, you won't help yourself in the long run.
1.In the first paragraph, the writer stresses the importance of ________.
A.better preparations for exams B.better understanding of English
C.better skills at taking exams D.better results of taking exams
2.When taking an exam, what are you advised to do
A.To first answer the questions which are easier for you.
B.To rethink about the answers that you've written too much.
C.To search the test paper for all the answers to the questions.
D.To give up the questions whose answers you don't know.
3.It is common that many students ________.
A.pay much attention to their test-taking skills B.often give up a difficult test halfway
C.often get higher results by cheating D.don't believe in their first impulse
4.What would be the best title of the passage
A.Effective Studying Methods B.Effective Test-taking Skills
C.Getting Better Exam Results D.Being Successful Students

Big changes in agriculture are taking place in Singapore. The small, Southeast Asian nation is leading a farming revolution, according to the Reuters news agency.
Singapore covers around 720 square kilometers of land and only one percent of that land area is used for agriculture. Food production costs are higher there than the rest of Southeast Asia. As climate change and population growth threaten food supplies, the pressure on new farmers is to answer the governments call to "grow more with less".
"Whenever I talk about food security in Singapore, I tell people not to think about land — think about space, because you can go upwards and sideways," said Paul Teng, an agriculture professor at Nanyang Technological University.
There are more than 30 vertical(垂直的) farms in Singapore — ones that grow up, not across, the land. Sustenir Agriculture is one of these businesses. Its hydroponic(无土栽培的) farm grows non-native foods like cherry tomatoes and strawberries inside buildings under artificial lighting. Then it sells the produce to local supermarkets and online stores. Sustenir raised $ 16 million from investors (投资者) last year. The money will be used to expand operations in Singapore.
However, not everyone thinks the new technology is best. Egg farmer William Ho says the government should not depend so much on agriculture technology businesses. "Many of them have failed. That's why I'm always asking the government why it doesn't invest in us old-timers. We are more practical," he said. Professor Paul Teng said an issue for urban farmers is that the high cost of the technology makes their products too pricey for many people.
1.What does the second paragraph mainly discuss
A.High food production costs. B.Reasons for changes in agriculture.
C.Agricultural technology businesses. D.Sale expansion of food markets.
2.Which is the way to achieve food security according to Paul Teng
A.Exploring more space. B.Buying more food.
C.Enlarging farmland. D.Investing more money.
3.What do we know about the old-timers
A.They work on high-tech farms. B.They benefit from pricey products.
C.They reduce production costs. D.They need the government's support.
4.Where is this passage probably taken from
A.A guidebook. B.A brochure. C.A newspaper. D.A journal.
D
It's said that you don't know a man until you walk a mile in his shoes. And you also don't know what it's like for old people to travel until you accompany (陪伴) one on a trip.
After flying with my elderly father from Washington, D. C. to L. A. in July, I began to realize that a companion has important tasks that can make a journey easier for old people. I booked nonstop tickets on JetBlue to avoid tiring, confusing connections, and we flew directly into Long Beach Airport. Even though my father could walk, I arranged with the airline for wheelchair assistance, which meant we got on board first.
When I took him back to the airport for his return flight to Washington, I got permission from JetBlue to wait with him at the gate instead of saying goodbye at the security checkpoint. I wished he'd had a first-class seat and access to a comfortable airline club. Better yet, I wished I had flown with him on both ways. As I watched the attendant wheel him to the lift that would take him from the tarmac(停机坪) to the plane, I felt like an anxious mom sending her child to school for the first time.
Things can go awry on a plane trip. And then there is a horrifying story about Joe and Margie. When they landed at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, a wheelchair attendant met them to help with a connection. But somehow Margie, who had Alzheimer's disease, disappeared.
I didn't need to worry about my father's wandering away; at 82, his mind was sharper than mine. But his hearing was poor, so I worried about what would happen if he missed an important announcement. Fortunately, everything went just fine. A good arrangement (安排) made the trip successful.
Next time I travel with a senior, I'll know better. I hope there will be a next time.
1.Why did the author buy nonstop tickets
A.His father was tired of flights. B.He had important tasks to do.
C.He cared about his father. D.His schedule was tight.
2.How did the author feel when seeing his father off
A.Disappointed. B.Worried. C.Delighted. D.Sad.
3.Which of the following can replace the underlined part "go awry" in Paragraph 4
A.Be amused. B.Carry on as usual.
C.Live up to one's expectation. D.Be away from the correct course.
4.What can we learn from Paragraph 5
A.Taking a trip does great good to seniors.
B.It is a pleasant experience to travel with seniors.
C.To have a long journey with seniors is unpractical.
D.Careful planning ensures seniors to take a nice trip.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
Last Sunday afternoon, Sandra and I were eager to meet up with a man on Detroit's east side to help him get ready for a job interview this week. But on the way, we spotted a dog lying near the road next to his owner. We thought he'd been hit by a car. My friend, Sandra Abrahamian, and I, had assisted animal rescue groups before and we thought there might be something we could do, so we quickly pulled over to help.
His owner, a woman told us the dog's name was Bosco, and she was walking him over a mile in the heat to her new home. She said Bosco was an outside dog and no one would give him a ride to her new place. That was when she and a friend decided to walk the entire way. He was going from a life on a chain in one backyard to another. She said Bosco was having trouble breathing along the way, but they thought he could make it. But just a block away from their destination, Bosco fell down. We could tell he was suffering from heatstroke(中暑). She told us he had thrown up and could no longer stand. Bosco was out of breath quickly, his drool (口水) was also thick. Bosco's owner said she wanted to give him away because she didn't have time for him. She said he would never be allowed into her new "home" because her children have allergies (过敏症) and she worried he would dirty the carpet.
I made a call to Kristina Rinaldi of Detroit Dog Rescue to ask if they could help Bosco because it was clear that he was going to die without emergency care. To our happiness, Rinaldi said they could help. At once she told the people at Oakland Veterinary Referral Services that a dog which needed critical care was being rushed in and they must be ready to try their best to save him.

Sandra drove while I stayed in the back seat trying to comfort Bosco.

答案: powerful; are included; with; happening; remains; a; education; shortcomings ; that/which ; to provide
故填are included。
③句意为:毫无疑问,因特网是已知的与来自全球的上百万的人交流最快的方式。communicate with为固定搭配,意为“与……交流”。故填with。

Paragraph 1:
Sandra drove while I stayed in the back seat trying to comfort Bosco. I thought we lost him a couple of times when he was seemingly out of breath and his eyes seemed to close. By the time we arrived, Bosco was wheeled into the animal care center to receive emergency care. Bosco was put on oxygen and was taken good care of by staff there and we waited anxiously for the dog to get out of danger. Rinaldi said another dog in Detroit Dog Rescue had already been named Bosco, and she wanted this new member to have a new name for his new life.
Paragraph 2:
So Bosco is now being called Roscoe, whose critical care and recovery were estimated to be several thousand dollars. It would be difficult for Roscoe's new home to cover the costs as a non-profit organization. Thankfully, many people who knew Roscoe's story on Detroit Dog Rescue's Facebook page donated money to his care. With the help of supporters, Detroit Dog Rescue managed to make it. Once Roscoe was in a stable state, Sandra and I returned to our original mission, knowing we had already been given the chance to help one desperate soul.
