中西方姓名差异
1) 中国人姓在前，名在后，姓和名分成两部分，两部分的首字母都要大写。
2) 西方人名在前，姓在后，名和姓首字母大写。英美人还有中间的名字（middle name）放在名和姓中间。
full name 全名
有的英语姓名有三部分，中间一个称为middle name或second name,指的是“中间名”。
人们一般情况下是不使用中间名的，多数是在签署文件或办理公务时才使用。
尽管如此，为了方便通常也使用缩略形式，仅写中间名的首字母。如：Linda J.(Jane)Smith(琳达·J·史密斯)。中间名通常用缩写表示,由钟爱孩子的父母或其亲戚所取, 代表本人同亲属之间的关系，外人一般不称呼中间名。

在美国，万人以上的大姓有三千多个。
其中最大的姓氏为Smith，美国十大姓氏的排列顺序是：

英文名字的有趣小常识
姓氏的起源大致可分四类：
（1）以宗教或神话传说中的神为姓：Alexander/ALEX 亚历山大是身强体健有着希腊血统的男子，Diana黛安娜是月亮女神。
（2）以职业为姓，就是说祖先做什么起后代就姓什么。
美国歌星Karen Carpenter的祖先肯定是个木匠（carpenter）；
英俊男孩Harry Potter祖上肯定是做陶罐的（potter）
（3）以居住地为姓:比如不少英国人姓Hill，可见这些人等的祖先住在山上（hill）
（4）以绰号为姓:比如以祖先的相貌特征为姓，下巴上长胡子的人可以姓Beard，美国第一个登上月球的宇航员的祖先必定是胳膊（arm）长得很壮（strong），所以才姓Armstrong。

How to call someone politely
英国人士的称呼
第一种为称呼其名，且往往用其名字的简略形式。如把Thomas称作Tom, Jennifer称作Jenny。
第二种称呼是在被称呼者的姓之前加称谓词Mr, Mrs, Miss , Ms，Mr指男性不论是否已婚，表示“先生”“老师”。Mrs指已婚妇女，表示“太太”“夫人”。Miss只指未婚女子，表示“小姐”。Ms是对妇女的称谓词，它不表示妇女婚否。
第三种称呼为直呼被称呼人的职称或头衔, 如Doctor (医生),Professor（教授）等。
