The sun is always shining. But it can only shine on one side of the earth at one time. When the sun is shining on one side of the earth, it is night on the other side.
At night, you can see the stars. The stars are in the sky all day. But the light from the sun is so bright that you can't see them. When night comes, there is no light, and the stars are bright enough to see. The stars look very small. But some of them are even bigger than the sun. They look small because they are so far away from you. Big things look much smaller when they are far away. The sun is closer to the earth than other stars, so it looks bigger.

C. disappears D. shines on the other side of the earth
2. We can't see the stars in the sky at daytime because_____.

As space science develops, man has learned more and more about space. Space is not only amazing but also dangerous. While working in space, spacemen are facing danger.
Scientists have found out that radiation (辐射) is the greatest danger to spacemen in space. When spacemen are working in space, they are in danger of radiation from the sun and other stars, which is bad for their health. Some special medicine may work a little, but there's no really helpful medicine.
Space junk is also thought to be great danger to spacemen. It's reported that there are 9,000 man-made things flying in space. About 30% of these are man-made satellites, 10% are spaceships, and the rest are space junk. An explosion (爆炸) in 1996 made a cloud of 300,000 fragments, each at least 4 mm in size, and even a small piece of these knocked against a spaceship window and did some damage. Scientists are working on helpful ways to do with space junk.
Although space is really dangerous, it interests everyone on the earth. In the near future, it may become usual for people to spend a few days in a space hotel. We may even choose to leave the earth and live in space for a few years. So we should care for space and do something to help improve the space environment.
1. _____ is / are the most dangerous to spacemen.
A. Satellites B. Radiation C. Fragments D. Space junk
2. _____ of man-made things in space are space junk.
A. 10% B. 30% C. 60% D. 80%
3. The underlined word "fragments" in Paragraph 3 means_____.
A. 飞碟 B. 泡沫 C. 烟雾 D. 碎片
4. What can people do in space in the near future
A. They can only live and travel in space.
B. They can grow some fruit and vegetables in space.
C. They can find out ways to solve all the problems in space.
D. They can spend a few days or live for a few years in space.
5. The purpose of the writer who writes the passage is mainly to_____.
A. introduce what the space is like to us
B. talk about some important space travels
C. tell us about the space environment and let us care for space
D. show us how interesting the life of the spacemen in space is

This was the first train ride for Martha and her brother Brian. They would take the train to visit their grandparents. They usually went there by car. But today, Mum and Dad wanted to try a different way.
They walked to the middle of the train. They found some seats and sat down. A few minutes later, the train began to move.
Martha and Brian felt a little nervous, but their parents said they would enjoy the ride. Dad said he liked the train ride because he didn't need to drive all the time. Mum added that she could talk to her two children face to face instead of turning around.
When the children heard their parents' words, they felt relaxed.
"The train isn't as noisy as I thought it would be," said Martha, "and I can stand up and walk around. I believe I can see everything through the windows."

七、书面表达
答案:
Dear David,
Glad to receive your letter. Our school has made many safety rules for us to follow. Let me tell you something about them.
When we are at home, we must be careful of power and fire. We should close the doors and windows before we leave home. We mustn't go swimming alone. We mustn't swim in rivers or lakes. If we really want to go swimming, we can go to the swimming pool with our parents or friends. What's more, following traffic rules is also very important. Everyone should watch the traffic lights when they are crossing the road. And our school warns us not to play on the road.
I think these rules are necessary as safety comes first.
Have a good summer holiday!
Yours,
Wang Wei
