not only ... but also ... 意为“不但……而且……”,连接两个并列成分或句子,also可以省略。
Mr. Smith is not only my teacher, but (also) my friend.
To achieve a bright future, we should not only study hard but also keep in good health.
注: not only ... but also ...中的not only不能分开使用, 但but also可以。

(1)not only ... but also ... 连接两个分句,并且 not only位于句首时,第一个分句要部分倒装。
e.g. Not only can he sing English songs, but he also can play the piano.
(2)not only ... but also ... 连接两个主语时,谓语动词要和与其最近的主语保持人称和数的一致。
