外研版版英语八年级上册 Module 1 How to learn English 阅读理解专练
One evening I visited the English corner of our town. It is near our school. There are trees and flowers and a small ground. Every evening, large numbers of people go there to improve their English, but I had never been there before.
When I arrived there, many people had already been there. I looked around and found that most of them were students. Some of them were talking in English in twos and threes. To my great surprise, I even found three foreigners talking and smiling with some students who were listening with great interest. Just then, a tall student came towards me and asked, “Shall we have a talk in English?” My heart beat very fast at that moment because it was the first time for me to visit the English corner. Anyway, I said, “Yes.” Soon we talked freely about our studies, our lives, our hobbies as well as our problems of learning English. Time went fast, and it was already 11 o'clock before I realised it.

A good way to pass an examination is to work hard every day in the year. You may fail in an examination if you are lazy for most of the year and then work hard only a few days before the examination. If you are taking an English examination, do not only learn rules of grammar.
Try to read stories in English and speak English whenever you can. A few days before the examination you should start going to bed early. Do not stay up late at night studying and learning things. Before you start the examination, carefully read over the question paper. Try to understand the exact meaning of each question before you pick up your pen to write. When you have at last finished your examination, read over your answers. Correct the mistakes if there are any and make sure that you have not left anything out.

After studying Japanese for about half a year, Cami started talking more in Japanese. One of the problems Cami had was finding people who would talk with her in Japanese. Luckily, some of her students liked to talk with her in Japanese. So she practiced speaking with them for an hour every day. And then she began to make more progress in Japanese.

People often ask me for suggestions about how to learn English. As for it, everyone is different. I’ll share some of my experience. I once took a school year English course in Wuhan University, but I mostly learned English on my own.
One thing I can tell you is that, once you’ve started learning, you should try to think in English as much as you can. If you see some things when you’re riding your bike or walking down the street, just think about “How would I say them in English ” At first, it might be with simple words or phrases, but later you should think about longer phrases and sentences. Now I’m in America, and for most of the time, I would think in English and speak it directly. It’s amazing how much this helps.
For several years after I started learning, I was often afraid of talking with others in English because I didn’t want to make mistakes. Finally, I got it over. And while traveling in America, I’d try to hang out with friends who couldn’t speak Chinese, so that I’d have no choice but to speak English. And I also decided that if I said something stupid and other people laughed at me, then so be it. After that, my English started improving much more quickly.
Besides, it may be a good idea to ask your American friends to look at the way you’re writing, and give you some suggestions for improvement.

C.watching English films D.reading English books
22.What does the underlined phrase “got it over” in Paragraph 3 mean in Chinese
A.坚持它 B.依赖它 C.克服它 D.理解它
23.To the writer’s surprise, his English improved quickly ________.
A.in the university B.in the middle school C.in China D.in America

Robots Are Now Teaching English! Get ready. Robots are about to come into our classroom. From Korea(朝鲜) to Japan to the United States, schools are putting English-speaking robots in front of their students. The young students say that the robots are fun, but are these children really learning anything I don't think a computer will ever be able to do what a teacher does. Each student is different, and a teacher can try his or her best to make every student understood. Sara says: Schools should spend money training (培训) human teachers. Study shows that children learn more from real speakers than from recorded (录制的) conversations on the computer. Keiko says: I don't think you can learn a language without real human interaction (互动). After all, robots cannot think as humans do. Hassan says: Robots might be able to help people learn a language, but I don't think they should replace teachers because robots are just machines without human feelings. Nancy says: I think robots might be very popular in the classroom. A child might be less afraid to make a mistake in front of a robot than in front of a real person.

Language students often think they have memory(记忆) problems. They worry because they can’t remember words. In fact, the problem usually isn’t with their memory. The problem is with how they study. In my opinion, using a right way is the most important.
To remember words better, you need to understand how memory works. There are two kinds of memory: short-term and long-term. When you see, hear or read something, it goes first into short-term memory. But short-term memory lasts for only a few seconds, that means we will forget things soon in short-term memory. You will only remember something longer if it goes into long-term memory. Your long-term memory is like a very big library with many, many books. And like a library, it’s organized. When you put away(放好,储存) a book or memory, you can’t just leave it anywhere. You have to choose a place where you can find it again.
How can you do this with vocabulary The answer is to work with the word and think about the word in new ways. You can do this by writing new sentences with the word in it. Even better, you can invent a little story about the word, with people or places that you know. Another way is to make a picture in your mind with the word. For example, if the word is “height”, you can think of the tallest person you know and try to guess his or her height. All of these activities are good ways to think about words. They make the meaning of words stronger in your long-term memory. And they give a way to find a word when you need it.
This is my idea about how to improve ways to remember words, and I hope it can help you.

Swimming and English Learning
Can you swim Do you like swimming Yes Well, how can you learn to swim I think the best way is to go into the water and learn. I’m afraid you’ll never learn to swim just by reading books about swimming or looking at others who are swimming. It’s the same with the English study. We must practice, practice and practice.
Listening and speaking are very important for beginners. The children in English-speaking countries first listen to others. Then they try to imitate and speak. We can listen to English programs on the radio. You may just understand a few words. It doesn’t matter. Just be relaxed, and try to catch every word.
Somebody may be a good listener. But he or she dare not speak. He or she is afraid of making mistakes. You know we sometimes make mistakes when we speak Chinese. Don’t be afraid. We must be brave. If you really want to learn English well, you must try to speak with everyone so long as he knows English. Whether you know him or not is not important. When there’s nobody to talk with, you can talk to yourself in English. It’s interesting and also a good way to practice your spoken English. Remember, the more you speak, the fewer mistakes you’ll make.
Reading and writing are more important for senior school students. First, we must choose the books we’re interested in. A lot of reading will improve your language sense. This is the most important.
Keep writing English diaries. We can also write English articles. You may even post them to English magazines. Don’t be afraid of failure. Failure is the mother of success.
Easier said than done. Well, let’s do more practice from now on. I’m sure you’ll learn English well in this way.

A.reading books about it
B.looking at others who are swimming

Reading an English newspaper is a good way to improve a student’s language ability. As there are many useful words in an English newspaper, it may help students increase their vocabulary as well as improve their reading skills. They can learn new knowledge from the newspaper. But what is the right way to read an English newspaper Do students need to look over all the words of the newspaper
The first step is to choose a right newspaper with good language. Then turn to the front page and read the headlines to know what has happened. As the most important things are on the front page, it's easy to find out the article you're interested in and then turn to the page to read the whole of it. There is no need to go through all the articles.
Secondly, read newspapers every day. Remember words through context (上下文). Once they appear several times, you will remember them easily. Don't look up every new word in your dictionary. You can try to guess the meaning between sentences. If you are wrong, don't give up. Keep reading and you will know the words better after reading them several times in different texts.
Reading English newspapers makes us learn more. It can not only help us know what is happening in the world but also improve our language.

When you are learning a language, listening, speaking and writing are important, but reading can also be very helpful. When you read, you can not only learn some new words, but also learn how to use them. When you read a passage, it gives you a good example for writing. Here are some good reading tips.
Firstly, try to read at the right level (水平). Read something that you can understand. If you need to stop every three words to use a dictionary, it is not interesting.
Secondly, try to understand the new words. If there are four or five new words on a page, don’t use a dictionary. Instead, try to guess their meanings as you read. Mark (作标记) them with a pencil. Then look them up in a dictionary when you finish reading, and write them in your own vocabulary book. Try to remember them.
Thirdly, try to read for a short time once a day. Fifteen minutes or half an hour every day is better than two hours every Sunday. For example, you can read before you go to bed, or after you get up or at lunchtime.
Lastly, read something that interests you. Choose a newspaper, a book or a magazine about a subject that you like. It will be easy enough for you to understand.

Sometimes you will get your words mixed up and people will not understand you. Sometimes people will say things too quickly and you can't understand them. It is much better for people to be laughing at your mistakes than to be angry because they don't understand what you are saying. The most important rule for learning English is, “Don't be afraid of making mistakes; everyone make mistakes.”

When you are learning English, you find it not clever to put an English sentence, word by word, into your own language. Take the sentence“How do you do ” for example. If you look up each word in the dictionary, once at a time, what is your translation(翻译) It must be a wrong sentence in your own language.
Languages don’t just have different sounds; they are different in many ways. It’s important to master(掌握) the rules for the word order in the study of English too. If the speaker puts words in a wrong order, the listener can’t understand the speaker’s sentence easily. Sometimes when the order is changed, but the meaning of the sentence doesn’t change. Let’s see the differences between the two pairs of sentences.
“She only likes apples.” “Only she likes apples.”
“I have seen the film already.” “I have already seen the film.”

There are about fifteen hundred languages in the world. But only a few of them are very important. English is one of them. People use it in England and the USA as their own language. It is difficult to say how many people are learning it as a foreign language. Millions of people are trying to do so. Is it easy or difficult to learn English Different people may have different answers. Have you ever noticed ads (广告) of this kind in the newspapers or magazines “Learn English in six weeks, or give your money back…” “Easy and funny” “Our records and tapes help you master (掌握) English in a month.” Of course, it never happened quite like that.
The only language that is easy to learn is the mother tongue. We should remember that we all learned our-own language well when we were children. Language students often think they have memory problems. They worry because they can’t remember words. In fact, the problem usually isn’t with their memory. The problem is with how they study.
To remember words better, you need to understand how memory works. There are two kinds of memory: short term and long term. When you see, hear, or read something, it goes first into short-term memory. But short-term memory lasts for only a few seconds. You will only remember something longer if it goes into long-term memory. Your long term memory is like a very big library with many, many books. And like a library, it’s organized(有条理的). When you put away a book—or memory—you can’t just leave it anywhere. You have to choose a place where you can find it again.
How can you do this with vocabulary The answer is to work with the word and think about the word in new ways. You can do this by writing new sentences that include it.
82.In the writer’s opinion, students can’t remember words because ________.
A.they are too worried B.they don’t use a proper way
