Do you have a favorite place—a place with family and relatives (亲戚), good weather and fun things to do I’m glad I have. New Jersey is my favorite place. I like it for many reasons (原因).
The first reason is my family and relatives. Half of my relatives live in New Jersey. When I visit them, my cousins and I play games and have fun together all the day. My uncles and aunts like taking me to the park. There we can ride roller coasters and play in the water. We all feel happy to stay together.
The second reason is the weather. It is not hot, and it’s always cool. When I think about my visits to New Jersey, I can just feel the little wind in my hair. It’s so great to stay there.
The third reason is catching crabs (捕蟹). If it’s the crab season, we often catch (抓) crabs. We keep the blue crabs and the snow crabs, and we let the others go. Once, my cousin catches a crab. Would you like to live in a city where buildings turn the lights off for you, and self-driving cars will find the nearest parking space themselves Although it might sound a little far from you, living in a “smart” city like this could happen sooner than you think.
Great changes have taken place in towns that we have lived in for centuries, while completely new cities are being built. One such place is the city of Songdo. Every home there will have a “telepresence system (远程遥控系统)” — allowing users to control the heating and locks, take part in video meetings, and receive education, health care and government services. Around the city, escalators (自动扶梯) will only move when someone is on them, and offices and schools will all be connected to the system.
The great mind behind Songdo is from the company Cisco. In fact, technology companies around the world such as IBM, Siemens and Microsoft are already in the business.
About 75% of the world’s population will live in cities by 2050, so cities will need to be more modern to deal with the coming problems. “Making cities smarter is one way out, and I think this will in turn make cities greener,” said Dan Hill, head of a research company.

There is going to be a new city in the middle of the desert in New Mexico, USA.It looks almost the same with other middle-size American cities, with 35,000 homes, high buildings, highways, factories, a shopping centre and an airport. But it’s missing one very important thing. It doesn’t allow people to live there.
Known as Center for Innovation, Testing and Evaluation (CITE), the city is going to cost $1 billion to build. It is going to be a test city for the future, allowing both the government and private companies to try out new technology (科技), products and services in an environment that looks like the real world. Driverless cars, drones (无人机), robots and different power systems are some ideas to be tested in the city. Because there are no people in the city, scientists build a computer lab (实验室) underground to collect all the information from the test, then send it to a research (研究) center nearby.
The idea of CITE comes from a technology company Pegasus Global Holdings. “It offers scientists a safe place to test some technologies that may cause dangers, like driverless cars, without influencing our daily life. No people will get hurt if anything goes wrong,” Pegasus manager Robert Brumley told CNN.
Many scientists are happy to see new testing ways like this. “We need more new testing places,” Future Cities Lab designer Nataly Gattegno told CNN. “CITE will allow us to do tests much faster.”
