There are a number of reasons that can be given as to why children should be taught swimming at an early age. If your child knows the basic swimming skills, you can be at peace when your child is near the water. If you are in the process of teaching your child how to swim, then here are some points that you should keep in mind.
Help your child pick a bathing suit. If your child wants to wear the bathing suit and get wet then it is certain that your child will be able to handle the water.
If the pool has steps, then it is great. Start from these to help your child gain some confidence. You should make sure that there is one place in the pool where your child can be left safely.
The best way to teach your children to swim is to make them join swimming classes. In this way, you will be at peace because there is a professional trainer around your children who can teach them all the tricks of swimming. You can join the parent-child lessons to make your child feel comfortable. If your child is a bit older, then get permission and sit by the pool to watch him/her learn. When you get your child admitted to swimming classes, make sure that the lessons go according to the swimming goals that you have set for your child.
Swimming is a fun activity and making it easy for your children to understand and coordinate (使协调) the movements of their arms and legs will take some time. But with regular practice and training this can be overcome. So, start with the basics and be around your children when they are learning how to swim. John, a very thin boy, loved football with all his heart when he was very young. Practice after practice, he eagerly gave everything he had. But being half the size of the other boys, he could only sit on the bench and hardly ever played in games. Even though the son was always on the bench, his father was always standing with cheers and encouraging him.
When John went to college, he decided to try out for the football team as a "walk-on". Everyone was sure he could never make the cut, but he did. The coach thought he could provide the other members with the spirit they needed.
The news that he had survived the selection excited him so much that he rushed to the nearest phone and called his father. His father shared his excitement and was sent season tickets for all the college games.
It was the end of the last football season. One day John received a telegram and asked one week off. Nobody knew what happened except the coach. The coach said, "Don't plan to come back to the game on Saturday."
Saturday arrived, and the game was not going well. When the team was ten points behind, John came back. "Coach, please let me play. I've just got to play today," said John. The coach pretended not to hear him. But John persisted, and finally feeling sorry for the kid, the coach gave in.
Before long, everyone could not believe their eyes. John was doing everything to fight. The opponents could not stop him. He ran, passed and blocked like a star. And at last his team won the game.
After the game, John looked at the coach, with tears in his eyes, and said, "Well, you knew my dad died, but did you know that my dad was blind " John swallowed hard and forced a smile, "Dad came to all my games, but today was the first time he could see me play, and I wanted to show him that I could do it."

A new study finds almost one third of the world's population is overweight. Since 1980, obesity rates (肥胖率) in children and adults (成人) have doubled in 73 countries, making people more worried. And rates are increasing in many other countries. Obesity is increasing faster in children than in adults in many nations, including Algeria, Turkey and Jordan, the report says. But the world's weight problem is growing in both rich and poor countries alike. Researchers say an increasing number of people are dying of related health problems in what they called a "disturbing global public health problem".
Researchers studied health information from 1980 through 2015. They examined obesity rates and average (平均的) weight gain in 195 countries. They found that obesity rates are three times higher among teenagers and young adults in countries like China, Brazil and India. Almost 108 million children and more than 600 million adults were found to be overweight. Egypt had the highest number of overweight adults in 2015. Vietnam had the lowest. In the same year, the United States had the highest number of overweight children, and Bangladesh had the lowest.
Yet hunger remains a problem in many areas. The United Nations said that almost 800 million people, including 300 million children, go to bed hungry each night. Experts said poor diets and lack of physical activity are the main reasons for the rising number of overweight people. Growing populations have led to rising obesity rates in poor countries. Often, poor people will eat processed (加工的) food instead of choosing a diet rich in vegetables.
The London-based Overseas Development Institute studied the price of food in five countries: Britain, Brazil, China, Mexico and South Korea. It found that the cost of processed food like ice cream and hamburgers has fallen since 1990. But the cost of fresh fruit and vegetables has gone up.
1.What do we know about obesity in the world
A.It is worrying.
B.It is given no attention.
C.It has been successfully solved.
D.It is more serious among old people.
2.Which country has the most overweight children in 2015
A. The US. B. Vietnam. C. Egypt. D. Bangladesh.
3.What is one of the reasons why people get overweight
A. Hunger. B. Poor diets.
C. Diets with vegetables. D. Eating too much fruit.
4.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.It's Important to Have a Balanced Diet
B.How Can We Lose Weight and Keep Fit
C.Is It Necessary for Us to Eat Fresh Vegetables
D.Nearly One Third of People in the World Are Overweight
D
For those who can stomach it, working out before breakfast may be more beneficial for health than eating first, according to a study of meal timing and physical activity.
Athletes and scientists have long known that meal timing affects performance. However, far less has been known about how meal timing and exercise might affect general health.
To find out, British scientists conducted a study. They first found 10 overweight and inactive but otherwise healthy young men, whose lifestyles are, for better and worse, representative of those of most of us. They tested the men's fitness and resting(新陈代谢的) rates and took samples(样品) their blood and fat tissue.
Then, on two separate morning visits to the scientists' lab, each man walked for an hour at an average speed that, in theory, should allow his body to rely mainly on fat for fuel. Before one of these workouts, the men skipped breakfast, meaning that they exercised on a completely empty stomach after a long overnight fast(禁食期). On the other occasion, they ate a rich morning meal about two hours before they started walking.
Just before and an hour after each workout, the scientists took additional samples of the men's blood and fat tissue.
Then they compared the samples. There were considerable differences. Most obviously, the men displayed lower blood sugar levels at the start of their workouts when they had skipped breakfast than when they had eaten. As a result, they burned more fat during walks on an empty stomach than when they had eaten first. On the other hand, they burned slightly more calories(卡路里), on average, during the workout after breakfast than after fasting.
But it was the effects deep within the fat cells that may have been the most significant, the researchers found. Multiple genes behaved differently, depending on whether someone had eaten or not before walking. Many of these genes produce proteins (蛋白质) that can improve blood sugar regulation and insulin(胰岛素) levels throughout the body and so are associated with improved metabolic health. These genes were much more active when the men had fasted before exercise than when they had breakfasted.
The implication of these results is that to gain the greatest health benefits from exercise, it may be wise to skip eating first.

Tom was working in a big company. He had been on the road visiting people for more than a month without going home. He couldn't wait to get back to see his wife and children. It was coming up on Mother's Day, and he usually tried to make it "back home", but this year he was just too busy and too tired. The day when he was driving in a small town, he saw a flower shop. He said to himself, "I know what I will do. I'll send my mother some roses."
He stopped and went into the flower shop and saw a boy talking to the girl in it. "How many roses can I get for five dollars " the boy asked. The girl was trying to explain that roses were expensive. Maybe the boy would be happy with something else.
"No. I have to buy roses," he said. "My mom was badly sick last year and I didn't get to spend much time with her. I want to get something special. It has to be red roses, because those are her favorite." He was stubborn.
The girl in the shop looked up at Tom and was just shaking her head. Something inside of Tom was touched by the boy's voice. He wanted to get those roses so badly. Tom had been blessed(幸运的) in his business, and he looked at the girl and silently said that he would pay for the boy's roses.
The girl looked at the boy and said, "OK, I will give you a dozen red roses for your dollars." The young man almost jumped into the air. He took the flowers and ran out of the store. It was worth more than fifty dollars just to see that kind of excitement.
Tom ordered his own flowers and asked the girl to have them delivered (递送) to his mother. After that, with relief he drove down the road. Not long after his driving, he saw the boy walking to a graveyard (墓地).

A
If the pool has steps, then it is great. Start from these to help your child gain some confidence. You should make sure that there is one place in the pool where your child can be left safely."
If you are in the process of teaching your child how to swim, then here are some points that you should keep in mind." 故选A。
B
But being half the size of the other boys, he could only sit on the bench and hardly ever played in games."
When John went to college, he decided to try out for the football team as a 'walk-on'." 所以判断出第二段中带下划线的短语"make the cut"可替换为be allowed to join the team。故选B。
Well, you knew my dad died, but did you know that my dad was blind '"及"'Dad came to all my games, but today was the first time he could see me play'"可知,约翰的父亲去世了,他的父亲是个盲人,生前去"看"了他所有的比赛,今天是他第一次"看到"约翰上场踢足球,约翰想让父亲知道他能行。故选C。
Since 1980, obesity rates in children and adults have doubled in 73 countries, making people more worried. 故选A。
In the same year, the United States had the highest number of overweight children, and Bangladesh had the lowest. 故选A。
Experts said poor diets and lack of physical activity are the main reasons for the rising number of overweight people.
Nearly One Third of People in the World Are Overweight适合作为文章标题。故选D。
D
故选A。
On the other hand, they burned slightly more calories...
本题题干意为:从这项研究中可以获知什么 从文中最后一段中的to gain the greatest health benefits... it may be wise to skip eating first可知,为了从锻炼中获得最大的健康好处,不进食锻炼是明智的。

I knew you loved roses, but why didn't I send the flowers to you when I could still see you and talk with you Now, you have gone to another world. How I regret I didn't tell you I love you so much!"
