Watch actor Sterling K. Brown, and one of the first things you may notice is his eyes.
In a scene from the last season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Brown plays Reggie, a hard-nosed manager. His language is rough, but his eyes reveal something more: He's feeling guilty and defensive. Or look at his work in NBC's hit drama series This Is Us, where Brown plays Randall Pearson, a black man adopted by a white family. Again, Brown's eyes reveal a lot.
Those two performances have allowed Brown to make Emmy Awards history in 2020: He was nominated as best lead actor in a drama series for This Is Us and best supporting actor in a comedy series for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Amazon's Prime Video.
Grateful as he is for his nominations, Brown also sees the record number of black performers nominated for Emmys—about 34% of the acting nominees in 2020—as a welcome reaction to the Black Lives Matter protests of the summer.
The actor says it's also part of a long march towards recognition for black performers, held back by oppression in Hollywood back to the early 1900s, when white people wore blackface to play black characters in films.
Brown has made history at awards shows before: In 2018, he became the first black man to win best actor in a drama at both the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
With degrees from Stanford University and New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, Brown has spent about two decades appearing on TV shows like Lifetime's Army Wives and his first series regular role, playing a cop on FX's short-lived 2005 drama Starved.
These days Brown is excited about the new season of This Is Us, which will begin with two episodes addressing both the coronavirus pandemic and the Black Lives Matter protests.
1.Why does the author mention the TV series in Paragraph 2

A man walks into a doctor's office. He has a cucumber in his nostril, a carrot in his left ear and a banana in his right ear. "What's the matter with me " he asks the doctor. The doctor replies, "You're not eating properly."
This is a popular joke among British schoolchildren. It reflects Britain's famous dry and satirical way of seeing the funny side of life. This unique sense of humour is often cited as one of Britain's representative national characteristics.
"The famous British sense of humour has long been our most cherished national characteristic," says the British journalist Leo McKinstry. "We have valued it above historic military victories and great works of literature, above our rich scenic landscape and our talent for invention."
The British sense of humour differs from that of other countries because it is generally more negative. When it comes to making the British laugh, there is nothing more effective than a socially inappropriate joke.
Popular British comedy shows such as Fawlty Towers, Blackadder and The Office are full of sarcasm(讽刺), teasing and self-deprecation(自嘲). It reflects the culture where mocking, moaning and ridicule are part of everyday life.
While most British don't take these jokes too seriously, foreigners are often puzzled by them. A recent survey showed that most foreigners who visited Britain found that the British are "arrogant, unfriendly and have almost no sense of humour".
Do foreigners not understand British humour or are the British just not as funny as they think they are McKinstry certainly thinks the British are funny. "Accusing the British of having no sense of humour is like telling Rolls-Royce that its cars are downmarket," he says.
1.What does the doctor actually mean by the remark "You're not eating properly."
A.What you have had is the cause of these problems.
B.You are not having the right food.
C.You don't eat the way people usually do.
D.You eat with the wrong cutlery(餐具).

Some parents will buy any high-tech toy if they think it will help their child, but researchers said puzzles help children with math-related skills.
Psychologist Susan Levine, an expert on mathematics development in young children at the University of Chicago, found children who play with puzzles between ages 2 and 4 later develop better spatial skills. Puzzle play was found to be a significant predictor of cognition(认知) after controlling for differences in parents' income, education and the amount of parent talk, Levine said.
The researchers analyzed video recordings of 53 child-parent pairs during everyday activities at home and found children who play with puzzles between 26 and 46 months of age have better spatial skills when assessed at 54 months of age.
"The children who played with puzzles performed better than those who did not, on tasks that assessed their ability to rotate(旋转) and translate shapes," Levine said in a statement.
The parents were asked to interact with their children as they normally would, and about half of the children in the study played with puzzles at one time. Higher-income parents tended to have children play with puzzles more frequently, and both boys and girls who played with puzzles had better spatial skills. However, boys tended to play with more complex puzzles than girls, and the parents of boys provided more spatial language and were more active during puzzle play than the parents of girls.
The findings were published in the journal Developmental Science.
1.In which aspect do children benefit from puzzle play
A.Building confidence. B.Developing spatial skills.
C.Learning self-control. D.Gaining high-tech knowledge.
2.What did Levine take into consideration when designing her experiment
A.Parents' age. B.Children's imagination.
C.Parents' education. D.Child-parent relationship.

A.They play with puzzles more often. B.They tend to talk less during the game.
C.They prefer to use more spatial language. D.They are likely to play with tougher puzzles.
4.What is the text mainly about

The moon was hanging low in the South Carolina sky as Misha finished loading her truck. Then she led Gandalf to his cage in the back. It was 3 a. m. on Tuesday March 20. Misha's husband Chuck came out to see her off. "Don't expect to go up there and find that lost boy in the woods, because it's just not going to happen," Chuck said. As a retired firefighter, he had seen more incredible things than a kid surviving three cold nights in the mountains, but he didn't want his wife to be disappointed in herself or her dog.
Three days earlier, 12-year-old Michael disappeared suddenly from his troop's campsite in Doughton Park. A massive search party had been sent out to find the boy that had been missing in the woods for three days, but there was barely a trace of the boy. They were about to lose hope when one dog named Gandalf, stepped in.
Misha and Gandalf, her two-year-old dog, had trained for a year with the South Carolina Search and Rescue Dog Association. But this was their first real job. Doughton Park was located in a bowl on the side of a mountain. It was covered with heavy forest, where slippery moss (苔藓) and waterfall spray threatened one's footing and thundering streams could drown out a child's cry for help.
Misha and her teammates arrived at the staging area around 7 a. m. on Tuesday, day four. The wind was coming toward them then around the shoulder of a cliff (悬崖). Gandalf was about 30 yards ahead, working on the bank of the stream where it turned beneath a wall of rock. Misha saw him quickly lift his head. Was that the sign she'd been waiting for Gandalf ran to the left, which was out of sight behind the cliff face. Misha tried to climb up the track behind him.

答案:①longer ②sharing ③to be ④gives ⑤The ⑥secrets ⑦themselves ⑧with ⑨Fortunately ⑩what
be likely to do sth意为"可能做某事", 是固定用法。故填to be。
故填The。
故填with。
故填what。

First of all, I've learned broadcasting as a hobby, which I think will help me to handle the job well. What's more, two years' experiences in England give me the chance to better my spoken English. Being energetic and responsible, I believe I am capable of dealing with the tasks in the job. At last, I hope I can make great progress and improve myself through the job.
I would really appreciate it if you can give me the chance. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

All of a sudden came the bark of Gandalf. When Misha heard that, she immediately climbed over the track and looked around. At first, she saw Gandalf was walking back and forth around a rock. Misha went over and saw Michael, who got injured. His right leg was trapped under a stone. He looked weak and unconscious. Then Misha immediately called on her teammates to save Michael. They removed the stone on Michael's leg and sent him to the nearest hospital.
As it turned out, Michael's experience was tough. After treatment, he came around. Then he told them what had happened to him in the forest. A few days ago, he was playing around the campsite when he saw a beautiful butterfly flying around. He tried to catch the butterfly and chased after it, only to find he was lost. He slipped and his right leg was trapped under the stone when he was looking for his way back. Fortunately, it was Gandalf, Misha, and Misha's teammates who saved him. He said he would appreciate that forever.
