阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
There is a day every year that most people look forward to because of a cake, balloons, presents and sometimes a party. Yes, this is your birthday. A "birthday" is described as the name given to the date of the annual event of a person's birth. It is a global tradition for people to celebrate this specific day.
In the beginning, people did not have birthday celebrations, because people did not keep very good birth records. They weren't even sure what year they were born in. And when people started to celebrate the birthday, there was no tradition of bringing gifts, and guests attending the birthday celebrations would bring good wishes for the birthday person. However, if a guest did bring gifts it was considered to be a good sign for the person of honour. Later, flowers became quite popular as birthday gifts.
Nowadays, different cultures have their own birthday celebrations. In Chinese culture, elders and family members gather around the one-year-old child and bring objects such as books, dolls and coins. It is believed that the child's future career will depend on the object that he or she picks. The Chinese consider a child a year old at birth. In Japan, people's 3rd, 5th, and 7th birthdays are the most important, because they will get to participate in the annual Seven-Five-Three Festival. Participants usually visit shrines (神殿) to show thanks for their health and strength.
Some in Britain still practice an ancient way of celebrating birthdays by placing thimbles (顶针) and coins in the cake. The person who gets the coin will be wealthy and the one who gets the thimble will never marry. Ireland has a funny way of celebrating birthdays. It is believed that it is for good luck that a child is lifted upside down and gets "bumped (撞)" on the floor! These bumps will depend on how old the child is. An extra bump is also added for good luck.
1.What's the main purpose of the first paragraph
A.To introduce the topic of the text. B.To pick a way of celebrating birthdays.
C.To show readers how to develop the text. D.To explain the importance of birthdays.
2.Why didn't people celebrate their birthdays in the beginning
A.They had no money. B.They didn't have time.
C.They didn't remember their birthdays. D.They thought it unnecessary.
3.What does the act of bumping mean in Ireland
A.Great wealth. B.Long life. C.Happy marriage. D.Good luck.

Born in 1918, in the little town of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, Katherine Johnson was simply attracted by numbers. As a child, she counted everything. She counted the steps to the road, the steps up to the church, the number of dishes she washed... By the time she was 10 years old, she was a high school freshman, which was truly amazing in a time when school for African-Americans normally stopped at eighth grade. To fulfil her maths potential(潜力), her father drove his family 120 miles to Institute, West Virginia, where blacks could continue high school education. Johnson's excellent performance proved her father's decision was the right one: Katherine skipped grades(跳级) to graduate from high school at 14 and from college at 18.
In 1953, after years as a teacher and later as a stay-at-home mum, she began working for NASA, which began hiring women to measure and calculate the results of wind tunnel(风洞) tests in 1935. In a time before the electronic computers, these women were called "computer". Even after NASA began using electronic computers, the astronaut John Glenn requested that Katherine should personally recheck the calculations made by the new electronic computers before his flight.
She continued to work at NASA until 1986. Her calculations proved critical to the success of the Apollo moon-landing programme and the United States' journey into space. Her story was the basis for the 2016 film Hidden Figures.

A.Katherine left high school at eighth grade.

Did your mother ever say you'll feel better after a good cry It turns out Mom is right as usual—crying really is healthy. What's more, letting yourself feel blue and accepting those feelings will help you feel better in the long run, according to a new research.
In three separate studies both online and in a lab, researchers at UC Berkeley evaluated the responses from 1,300 adults regarding their psychological(心理的) health and emotional well-being(幸福感). In one study, 1,000 participants filled out a survey evaluating how they felt about the statement, "I tell myself I shouldn't be feeling the way that I'm feeling". Those who agreed with the statement scored lower on tests of well-being. In other words, letting yourself feel bad is better for your mind and mood than trying to control negative thoughts.
"We found that people who habitually accept their negative emotions experience fewer negative emotions, which adds to better psychological health," said study senior author Iris Mauss, PhD, an associate professor of psychology at UC Berkeley in an article on the university's website.
In a society where the importance to be happy is emphasized daily on Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms, letting yourself be down in the dumps can be tough. Just remember that true happiness isn't always what people say it is.
"It turns out that how we approach our own negative emotional reactions is really important for our well-being," said study lead author Brett Ford, PhD, an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Toronto. "People who accept these emotions without judging or trying to change them are able to deal with their stress more successfully."
So next time someone tells you to "turn that frown upside down", ignore them. Embrace your inner Eeyore for a while.
1.How did the researchers carry out one of the studies
A.They gave the participants different tests.
B.They compared their own thoughts with others.
C.They studied the participants' everyday experiences.
D.They compared the participants' thoughts and their feelings.
2.What does the underlined part "be down in the dumps" in Paragraph 4 mean
A.Be lonely. B.Be depressed.
C.Be positive. D.Be comfortable.
3.What did Brett Ford try to show in Paragraph 5
A.It is better for people to accept negative emotions.
B.We should never try to change others' thoughts.
C.People who accept themselves are happier.
D.Positive people tend to be less stressed.
4.What would be the best title for the text
A.Turn your frown upside down. B.Listen to your mom to feel better
C.Stop feeling bad about feeling bad. D.Stop feeling the way that you're feeling.
D
As the coronavirus(冠状病毒) outbreak continues, many Americans are fearful of using public transportation. They are also looking for ways to get exercise without going to a gym. So, it may not be surprising that the pandemic(流行病) has led to a major increase in bicycle sales.
In the US, bicycles at big stores have sold out. And small bicycle stores cannot keep up with demand for "family-style" bicycles: the low-cost, easy-to-ride models. "The bicycle industry is seeing its biggest sales increase since the oil crisis of the 1970s," said Jay Townley, an industry expert. He compared the sale of bicycles to the rush to buy products like toilet paper at the start of the pandemic.
The rise in bicycle sales is not happening just in the US. Italy has created bicycle paths for the growing number of people who want to avoid public transportation. In London, city officials plan to ban cars from some central roads. Bike shop owners in Manila say demand is even stronger than what they see at Christmas time.
Of course, you can only buy a bicycle if you can find one. In the US, the shortages now mean it may take many months to get a bicycle. High demand is not the only reason for the shortage. Many bicycle factories were shut down to stop the spread of COVID-19. The increase in bicycle demand began in March as countries began to close down. In April, the sale of bicycles increased 200 percent in the US.
Joe Minutolo is the co-owner of Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop in Maine. He said he hoped the increased sales meant a change in the way people think about transportation. "People are having a chance to rethink things," he said. "Maybe well all learn something out of this, and something really good will happen."
1.What causes the increase in bicycle sales
A.Shortage of public transportation. B.Outbreak of the coronavirus.
C.People's desire to defeat disease. D.People's fear of natural disasters.
2.What change has the pandemic caused in Italy
A.More bikes are sold than at Christmas time.
B."Family-style" bicycles are in great need.
C.Cars are banned from some central roads.
D.New bicycle paths have been built.
3.What can we know from Paragraph 4
A.It's impossible to buy a bike. B.Bike factories were closed in April.
C.High demand for bikes began in March. D.It takes many months to produce a bike.
4.What is Joe Minutolo's attitude towards the increased sales of bicycles
A.Doubtful. B.Positive. C.Uncertain. D.Critical.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was an unusually quiet day in the emergency room on December 25. It was quiet except for those who were standing around the nurses' station complaining about having to work on that day. I was a nurse and had just been out to the waiting room to clean up. Just then five people showed up at my desk, a pale woman and four small children.
"Are you all sick " I asked doubtfully.
"Yes," she said weakly and lowered her head.
But when it came to descriptions of their present problems, things got a little confusing. Two of the children had headaches, but the headaches weren't accompanied by the normal body language of holding the head or trying to keep it still. Two children had earaches, but only one could tell me which ear was affected. The mother complained of a cough but seemed to work to produce it.
Something was wrong, but I didn't say anything. I explained to the mother that it might be a little while before a doctor saw her. She responded, "Take your time; it's warm here." She turned and, with a smile, guided her children into the waiting room.
On a hunch (直觉), I checked the chart after a nurse had finished registering the family. No address—they were homeless. The waiting room was warm! I looked out at the family that huddled (蜷缩) on the floor. The smallest one was pointing at the television and saying something to her mother excitedly.
I went back to the nurses' station and mentioned there was a homeless family in the waiting room. The nurses, complaining about working on that day, turned to feel sympathy for the family. Meanwhile, we decided to do something for them.

第三部分 写作
第一节
答案:
Dear Tom,
In order to protect traditional Chinese culture, an activity about the culture of the Han Dynasty was held in our school yesterday. Since you are interested in traditional Chinese culture, I am writing to tell you about it.
The activity started with a wonderful dance performed by several girls wearing beautifully designed clothes. Later, a teacher introduced the characteristics of the clothes and the etiquette of the Han Dynasty. Students who had questions asked the teacher actively.
Through this activity, I have learnt more about the culture of the Han Dynasty. It's really meaningful.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
答案:
Then our team took action immediately. We asked for the free meal that was offered to us in the hospital cafeteria, and prepared other food for our "guests". We also needed presents, so we put together candies, fruit and other things available from different departments. Rushing in and out of the waiting room, our team made great efforts to make a warm party to meet the needs of the homeless family who just wanted to warm themselves.
The party ended up as expected, smoothly and joyfully. As the family walked to the door to leave, the mother ran back, gave me a hug and whispered, "Thank you." As she got back to her children, they all waved one more time. Inside the nurses' station, there stood a group of nurses with tears of joy in their eyes, who had a good day that they would never forget.
