There have been many problems with our schools today, the biggest of which is closely related to our culture. In general, our culture, as represented in the media, gets excited by famous stars, and constantly stresses that it's what you have, not what you are, that counts. Parents are encouraged to be away from even very small children for most of the day. Too many voters go for politicians who would rather cut school funding(拨款) than get rid of tax cuts for the wealthy. All contribute greatly to the problems of educating our children.
Today's teachers have to deal with a culture that is vastly different from that in the past. They report that there is, among more children than ever, a lack of motivation, with no drive to succeed or even try. The role models that boys view in the media mostly consist of men in comedies and other shows who are rude and often extremely immature: self-centred overpaid athletes; men in movies, television dramas, video games, etc who are preoccupied with violence and power. As Leonard Sax wrote in Boys Adrift, "Teenage boys are looking for models of mature adulthood. But we no longer make any collective effort to provide such models." Girls are attacked not only with such annoying images(形象) of males, but also with women who are preoccupied with appearance and are extremely materialistic.
In such a cultural environment, it is more important than ever to have responsible, loving and caring parents who have enough time and motivation to devote themselves to their children and see it as their duty to serve as models for them and raise them with high standards of honesty and responsibility along with tending to their physical needs. They need to care enough to see that their children are not attacked with the garbage that comes from movies, television and computer screens. In today's culture, they are basically alone in this effort since, unfortunately, so much is working against them.
Unless we, as a culture, face the truth about ourselves—that we are not providing things adequately for a great many of our children—the storm will continue to rage(肆虐) on our education system.
1.How is Paragraph 1 mainly developed
A.By analyzing causes. B.By showing differences.
C.By describing a process. D.By using time order.
2.What does today's culture probably bring to the children
A.Narrow access to entertainment. B.Poor understanding abilities.
C.Few materialistic models. D.Little desire for success.
3.According to the text, what should parents do in today's culture
A.Devote themselves more to their children.
B.Find honest models for their children.
C.Keep their children away from computers.
\D.Help their children develop motivation
4.What is the author's attitude towards today's culture
A.Positive. B.Ambiguous. C.Dissatisfied. D.Approving.
D
Nearly every week, we hear news about the latest successes and failures in driverless vehicles. But we hear little about how other industries are developing this same kind of technology.
One industry heavily involved in researching and developing artificial intelligence, or AI, is panies are experimenting with high-tech tools that can help farmers save time and money, while reducing environment-harming chemicals.
One of the companies is ecoRobotix of Switzerland. It created a robot equipped with AI and cameras to identify all plants on a farm. The robot has four wheels to carry it through the fields in search of puter-controlled arms then lower and spray the weeds with small amounts of herbicide (除草剂). Company officials say the robot can fully operate on its own for up to 12 hours a day while being powered by the sun. It uses the same kind of sensor and positioning technology used to guide driverless vehicles. A farmer can also control the equipment through a smartphone.
The co-founder of ecoRobotix, Aurelien Demaurex, says the farm robot can kill weeds with 20 times less herbicide than traditional methods. This is because the system uses exactly the right amount of chemical in the exact place required to kill the weeds. Currently, farmers spread weed killers over massive areas to destroy unwanted plants.
Another company developing farm robotics is California-based Blue River Technology. The company has a system called "See & Spray", which it claims is the world's first smart sprayer. The system—which connects to the back of a tractor—is also equipped with AI to identify and chemically kill only the weeds. It can also spray chemicals on wanted plants to help them grow. Ben Chostner, vice-president of business development for Blue River Technology, explains in a company video that "See & Spray" technology uses the same deep learning methods used in facial recognition. "The first time the machine saw a pigweed, it didn't know what kind of plant it was. But we taught it—by giving it tens of thousands of examples of pigweed—and now it's an expert in pigweed."
1.How will AI benefit agriculture
A.It will fund agriculture research. B.It contributes to low-cost farming.
C.It can avoid harmful chemicals. D.It frees all farmers from field work.
2.What do the products of the two companies have in common
A.They use recognition technology. B.They are powered by solar energy.
C.They are connected with smart phones. D.They can help wanted plants grow rapidly.
3.What do Ben Chostner's words suggest about the robot
A.It is environmentally friendly. B.It is good at self-improving.
C.It has the learning ability. D.It can track various plants.
4.What is mainly talked about in the text
A.The experiment in farming robots. B.New trend in artificial intelligence.
C.Modern "See & Spray" technology. D.Artificial intelligence in agriculture.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It seemed I'd done everything I'd ever wanted to do in my life, but I had one regret. I was born in 1898, the oldest of five kids. Papa couldn't afford to send me to school, so I worked in the fields with him till I was 21 years old.
Everywhere I went, I learned some hard lessons about what happened to a man who even couldn't read the alphabet. People cheated you out of wages. They sold you a ticket to one city, took your money and handed you a ticket to somewhere else.
By 1928, I'd been wandering for nine years. I met a woman named Elzenia. We fell in love, married and moved to Dallas, where I got work fixing roads for the city. When Amelia, the oldest of our seven children, first went to school, I took my wife aside. "Elzenia," I said, "I don't want the kids to know I can't read or write."
In 1938, one day my boss called me in. "George," he said," no one knows those machines like you do. I'd like to promote you." But my thrill and surprise were cut short when he said, "Fill out this application and we'll get you a raise." Though faced with the promotion, I couldn't admit the truth. I thanked him and walked out of his office. I did stay right where I was, until I turned 65 and my boss made me retire. But I didn't stop working. For the next 25 years, though I lived a happy life, it still seemed to me that something was missing.
A young fellow handed me a piece of paper. It's information about adult education classes. People can learn to read and write. I thought of my friends and neighbours and what they might think if they found out I couldn't read. After all these years, my secret would be out. But I always wanted to read. It was high time for action.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;

第二节
答案:
The young man drove me to a huge building and led me into a spacious classroom, which was crowded with elderly people like me. Through chatting, I learned that they all had been longing to read and write but never had the chance to go to school. As the bell rang, in came the teacher, a woman well past forty. After a warm and brief greeting, we started our lesson. First, we learned to read the alphabet and though I made mistakes at times, no one laughed at me. Everyone helped each other with open-hearted enjoyment.
I'm still going to school. Though faced with the most challenging event of my life, I'm full of courage and confidence. With the generous help of my teacher, friends and children, I have made huge progress in study. Now I'm never shy about admitting the truth that once I was not able to read or write at all. Besides, I'm eager to encourage more elderly people to attend the adult education classes, because it's never too late to learn.
