A
Dear Mr. King,
I'm Bob Watson, one of the customers of your grocery store. I'm writing to express my opinions about your goods.
Your Supermart is super in many ways. First, I enjoy the selection of produce and fresh baked items. Second, your low prices and excellent customer service keep me coming back to your Supermart. I have found, however, that I must make a separate shopping trip to one of your competitors because there are many items your store does not carry. This becomes inconvenient for me, as my time is valuable, and I don't like to make two trips. I have been a long-time Supermart shopper and hope to continue for many years. If I could find all the satisfying items I need in one place, I would be a more satisfied customer.
Specifically, I have never been able to get nacho cheese soup at your store. I can find other flavors of soup, but your store does not carry nacho cheese soup, a common ingredient(原料) in many of my recipes. In addition, I can only find large wonton wrappers, while many other stores carry both large and small and offer a more varied selection to their customers. Another example is Regent Brand Chili Seasoning. Though it is not a leading brand, it is still common on the shelves of other grocery stores in this area and is superior in flavor to its competitors.
I sincerely hope to continue a relationship with your store, and I hope that you will consider the possibility of expanding your goods to be more competitive.
Yours truly,
Bob Watson

From McDonald's to Sonic, fast food had a bad effect on my waistline and my budget(预算). It was so easy to use my card for a small purchase(购买). For me, I got a lot of satisfaction from fast food.
One day I realized that I was spending $40 a week on fast food. This was a lot of iced coffee and hamburgers! I decided to give myself a tight budget to reduce my consumption. Every Monday I placed an envelope with $20 in my purse. That was my fast food budget for the whole week. If there was anything left over at the end of the week, it would be mine to save or spend. If I spent all of the money during the week, there would be no more fast food that week.
The budget made me more mindful of my purchases. Instead of purchasing a large drink from Sonic, I would purchase a small one. It was still satisfying but not nearly as expensive. Instead of eating a whole meal, I would pick the part that I actually wanted. I never really felt unhappy because it was a wise choice to spend or save with each purchase.
The envelope budget kept me honest. I had a clear idea how much money was spent each week on fast food purchases. I started to bring my lunches more often to save more money
Changing the way I spent money on fast food not only helped my budget, but watched my weight. Now I am more likely to bring my lunch than to buy it. I am not upset, but allowed to make positive choices to improve my life.

A. It is hard to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
B. It is unusual to make some changes.

A. Why the author became addicted to fast food.

It seems school children all over the world complain about their school food. Cherie Blair, the wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, said that she would prepare a packed lunch for her son if school dinners do not improve. So what do students of your age eat for lunch at school
Japan
High schools have canteens, which serve everything from noodles to rice, but not burgers or chips. Other children bring food from home such as cold rice balls, meat or fish, pickles and vegetables.
Students take home a menu for the coming month containing notes on nutrition value. Twice a year parents are invited to have a taste of the food. The class with the fewest leftovers at the end of the month receives a prize.
America
A typical menu from a US school is made up of a hamburger with fried potatoes or roast chicken, lettuce and pickles, fruit and cookies. School lunches must also provide at least one-third of the daily dietary allowances(定量) of protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, calcium, and calories.
Australia
Meat pies, sausage rolls and hot dogs are all traditional dishes in Australian school shops. But as the nation pays more attention to children's health, healthier foods have started to find their way onto school menus.
Many schools have used a traffic light system. The sale of red-labelled foods, including pastries, chocolate and soft drinks, is served only twice a week. Healthier green-labelled foods such as sushi, sandwiches, com and watermelon, however, are available every day.
In some schools, students have a choice of up to 89 foods to choose from, including popcorn and rice.
South Africa
Most of South Africa's schools do not serve meals at all. Classes end at 1:30 pm and students get their own lunches. Many students bring food from home, usually sandwiches.
Fast food and fried food sell the best among students, which has led to a rise in obesity among children. But as more people began to realize the fact that being too fat may cause different diseases, some schools in towns have led the way towards better nutrition(营养). Now students at these schools are provided with lunches of porridge with vegetables, such as cabbages, onions, beans, carrots and tomatoes.

Hamburgers were first introduced to the United States in the early 20th century, and the first fast-food restaurant chain opened its doors in 1921. However, it was only after World War Ⅱ that fast food became popular in the whole country.
After designing their hamburger restaurant to make food in a simpler and more effective way, the McDonald brothers reduced the costs of production. They ended up earning $275,000 by 1951 which was quite a fortune for a small restaurant at that time. Along with other pioneers in the fast-food business, by 1990 fast-food restaurants had taken over the American landscape. Today, at least 50 million Americans are fed by more than 180,000 fast-food restaurants every day.
When analyzing these data, we might find it shocking that the decline of our health has moved in direct proportion (比例) to the rise of fast-food consumption. This, sadly, is not a coincidence(巧合) . Since 1990, various kinds of fast food have led to more consumption of calories compared to home-made meals.
The US government has conducted several surveys on this issue, and they have pointed out some alarming facts. Fast food and ultra-processed snacks are now taking the lead in more and more Americans' daily diets. Rather than healthy food, more people prefer quick, easy treats with high calories like fried chicken and potato chips. Moreover, according to the surveys, fast-food consumption has more than doubled since the 1970s among people aged between 19 and 39. In a relatively short period of time, the fast-food industry has changed not only the way Americans eat, but also their economy and cultural landscape. The rapid development of the fast-food industry also triggers the problem of increased overweight population in the US.
1. What are the first two paragraphs about
A. The development of the fast-food industry in the world.
B. The booming of the fast-food industry in the US,
C. The influence of fast food on our health.
D. The relationship between fast food and our lifestyle.
2. What does the underlined word "triggers" in the last paragraph probably mean
A. To reduce. B. To cause. C. To increase. D. To remove.
3. What is the author's attitude toward fast food
A. Supportive. B. Unconcerned. C. Negative. D. Unclear.
4. The passage is probably followed by a paragraph about _______
A. the influence of fast food on the economy
B. the development of fast-food industry
C. the solutions to the problem of overweight population
D. the relationship between fast food and overweight

Once, when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for the circus. Finally, there was only one family between us and the ticket counter. This family made a big impression on me. There were eight children, all probably under the age of twelve. You could tell they didn't have a lot of money. Their clothes were not expensive, but they were clean. The children were well-behaved, all of them standing in line, two-by-two behind their parents, holding hands. They were excitedly talking about the clowns, elephants and other acts they would see that night with their brothers or sisters in a low voice. One could sense they had never been to the circus before. It promised to be a highlight of their young lives.
The father and mother were at the head of the pack, standing proudly as they could be. The mother was holding her husband's hand, looking up at him as if to say, "You are my knight in shining armor." He was smiling and responding in pride, looking back at her as if to say, "You got that right." The ticket lady asked the father how many tickets he wanted. He proudly responded, "Please let me buy eight children's tickets and two adults' tickets, so I can take my family to the circus."
The ticket lady told him the price. The man's wife let go of his hand, lowered her head and her lips began to shake. The father leaned a little closer and asked, "How much did you say " The ticket lady again told him the price. The man obviously didn't have enough money.
How was he supposed to turn and tell his eight children that he didn't have enough money to take them to the circus Actually we were not wealthy in any sense, so I understood how the kids would feel. I felt sorry for them.

A
答案:BDA
根据文章第二段中的“your low prices and excellent customer service keep me coming back to your Supermart(你们低廉的价格和优质的客户服务让我经常光顾你们的Supermart)”和“I have been a long-time Supermart shopper”可知作者是该店的常客。故选B。
根据文章第三段中的“Specifically, I have never been able to get nacho cheese soup at your store.” “In addition, I can only find large wonton wrappers, while many other stores carry both large and small and offer a more varied selection to their customers.”和“Another example is Regent Brand Chili Seasoning.”
3.答案:A
根据第二段中的“your low prices and excellent customer service keep me coming back to your Supermart(你们低廉的价格和优质的客户服务让我经常光顾你们的Supermart)”可知,我们能从Bob写的信中得知,这家杂货店提供良好的顾客服务。故选A。
B
答案:ADCC
1.答案:A
For me, I got a lot of satisfaction from fast food"可知,作者会从快餐中得到满足感,故可知她十分喜欢快餐。
That was my fast food budget for the whole week. If there was anything left over at the end of the week, it would be mine to save or spend. If I spent all of the money during the week, there would be no more fast food that week"可知,作者设定了预算,以控制快餐支出。
Changing the way I spent money on fast food not only helped my budget, but watched my weight"可知,作者通过设定预算不但减少了快餐开支,而且控制了体重。
School lunches must also provide at least one-third of the daily dietary allowances of protein, vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, calcium, and calories."
Fast food and fried food sell the best among students"可知,快餐和油炸食品在学生中卖得最好,这会导致儿童肥胖率上升,由此可知画线词意为“肥胖”。故选B项。
So what do students of your age eat for lunch at school "可知,本文是写给“你们”这个年纪的学生的。故选A项。
D
由上文的"Rather than healthy food"可知,快餐往往不是很健康的食物,且从后文的"the problem of increased overweight population"可推知,此处表示快餐业的迅速发展引发了一些社会问题,故选B。
根据第一段中的“The good news is that there are many tricks to prepare vegetables...” 根据空下文中的“Take the time to talk to the local growers”和“If there is no farmer's market in your area, talk to...”
根据上文中的“If there is no farmer's market in your area, talk to the grocery produce managers. They will more than likely be happy to share buying tips and preparation ideas...” G项中的“grocery stores”与上文中的“the grocery produce managers”相照应,同时G项中的“also provide recipe cards”承接上文中的“share buying tips and preparation ideas”,共同说明食品杂货店会给顾客很多烹饪蔬菜方面的建议和帮助。
根据上文中的“the chances are that they just need some extra flavor—seasonings”可知,此段主要介绍的是调味品在烹饪蔬菜时起到的作用。 B项中的them指代上文中的“the foods that you actually do enjoy”,同时B项中的seasonings与下文中的“those same seasonings”相照应。
根据下文中的“make pizza crust out of cauliflower”以及“You can also add vegetables to your favorite sweet fruit juice recipe.” D项中的“If so”承接上文中的"You maybe say you still can't accept the taste of vegetables."。
根据上文中的"which many people find still delicious even if it's not close to the real thing"可知,用花椰菜做比萨饼皮也可以很美味。根据上文中的“And then top your pizza with your favorite sauce, cheese and meat.”
1-5 BDACD 6-10 ABDAC 11-15 CDCAC
11.答案:B
解析:由文章首句“I had been eating...there weren't many different kinds of food at dinner.” 结合第六段中的“It'll be good for you to try something new”可推断此处表示丈夫建议“我”尝试新食物,他觉得“我”应该走出自己的食物舒适区。leave(离开)符合语境,故选B。
13.答案:A
再结合本句中的“I thought I couldn't go wrong”可知,此处表示“我”想象着那家餐厅会有许多“我”喜欢吃的食物,故选C(想象)。
15.答案:D
解析:由本空前的“and then”可知,设空处表示的动作紧接着“gave the server our drink order”发生。结合下文中的“the other hungry people choosing the buffet”和“I turned left, and he went right.” A.招待;B.理解;C.鼓励;D.加入。故选D。
16.答案:A
解析:由文章首句及第六段中的“It'll be good for you to try something new”可知,“我”不是一个善于尝试新食物的人。 A.通常的;B.私人的;C.健康的;D.新的。top...with... 故选A。
17.答案:B
解析:由下一段中的“I lifted a crab leg”及第六段中的"Come on. It'll be good for you to try something new"可推测,此处表示丈夫鼓励“我”品尝一下蟹腿。Have a taste of sth.
Come on. It'll be good for you to try something new"可知,作者拿起蟹腿但是没有吃。
19.答案:A
结合下文中的“They were busy with their own crab legs.” B.相信;C.意识到;D.答应。
20.答案:C
解析:由下文中的“They were busy with their own crab legs.” A.返回;B.拒绝;D.回答。
21.答案:C
解析:由下文中的“I managed to break the shell...using the tip of my knife to dig bits of meat out of the shell.” give sth. a try尝试某物。故选C。A.改变;B.检查;D.
22.答案:D
解析:由上文中的“I managed to break the shell and cut my finger on the shell.” end up doing sth. talk about doing sth.谈论做某事;worry about doing sth.担心做某事;give up doing sth.
23.答案:C
解析:由上文中的“I managed to break the shell...using the tip of my knife to dig bits of meat out of the shell.” work hard努力做。故选C。
24.答案:A
答案:treasures; celebrating; For; satisfying; who; exists; marriage; about; preserving; diversity
be happy about(对……
Dear Fred,
I'm delighted to introduce the recipe for Dongpo's Braised Pork to you.
First, prepare 600 g streaky pork with skin on and a proper amount of green onion, ginger, soy sauce, yellow rice wine and rock candy. Second, boil the pork in water for 3 minutes, take it out and cut it into large cubes. Next, put the green onion and ginger into the pot and put the pork cubes on them. After that, add other ingredients such as soy sauce, yellow rice wine and rock candy to the pot. The most important step is to boil the mixture in the pot for about two hours over the slow fire. Finally, a delicious dish appears in front of you.
That's all about the recipe for the dish. Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
答案:
Paragraph 1:
Seeing what was going on, my dad seemed to have an idea. My dad put his hand in his pocket, pulled out a $ 20 bill and dropped it on the ground. Then he picked it up and tapped the man on the shoulder and said, "Excuse me, sir, this fell out of your pocket." The man turned around and saw the money. He knew what was going on, he looked straight into my dad's eyes, took my dad's hand in both of his, holding the $20 bill, and with his lips shaking, a tear running down his cheek, he replied, "Thank you, thank you, sir. This really means a lot to me and my family."
Paragraph 2:
That day my father and I went back to our car. When I asked Dad why he did so, Dad said, "My child, it was a desperate, heartbreaking and embarrassing situation for a father. Surely he wasn't begging for a handout, but he reminded me of my father, when I was young." He paused for a while, as if wandering in his memory. "We should appreciate what we have obtained from life and seize every opportunity to help others. We didn't go to the circus tonight, but we didn't go without."
