To get good body shape soon, some people use “quick” methods without realizing that these methods can put their overall heath in danger. For example, they lose weight by eating fat - free food. It’s true that consuming fewer fats can help you get slim sooner, but low - fat foods like dried fruits, nuts, beans, etc., actually contain a large number of calories. For example, fruit juice contains no fat, but has high calories, so drinking more than one glass of fruit juice won’t help in losing weight.
To rely only on fruit and vegetable juice to lose weight is also a wrong method. By replacing your meals with only juice, you decrease the calorie intake greatly. It’ll help lose weight, but it can make you lack energy, leading to headaches, stomach disorders, etc.
It’s true that exercise helps to keep healthy weight, but it’ll probably not help you much if you don’t take care of your diet by reducing your calorie intake. If you believe you can exercise every day and eat as much as you want, you’re incorrect. For healthy weight loss, you need to burn more calories than you consume. So, you need to limit the intake of food.
Wrong weight loss methods are dangerous. So if in doubt, you’d better ask a doctor before starting weight loss. Luckily, it’s possible to lose weight with healthy methods. For example, follow healthy food habits, exercise regularly for 20 - 30 minutes every day, and go on with a healthy lifestyle even after you successfully lose weight.
Anyway, as you don’t gain weight overnight, it can’t be lost in a short time either. Give yourself some time. Although healthy methods may take a bit longer to work, they’re surely good for your body.
24.We can know from the first paragraph that ________.
A.fruit juice is low in fat and calories
B.most people don’t lose weight safely
C.eating high - fat foods helps lose weight
D.some quick shaping methods may be harmful
25.Relying on a liquid diet to lose weight is wrong because it ________.
A.makes you skip meals
B.reduces the calorie intake greatly
C.can cause a few health problems
D.doesn’t help you to lose weight fast
26.How can we get more calories burnt than we consume according to Paragraph 3
A.By reducing mental pressure
B.By only drinking fruit juice
C.By having more rest
D.By exercising with food control
27.What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A.We should be patient with losing weight
B.We can actually lose weight very easily
C.Regular exercise is enough for us to lose weight
D.We don’t have to consider our doctor’s advice
C
An online supermarket company—Ocado in the UK, has recently showed a robotic hand that can pick fruits and vegetables!
When an embryo (胚胎) is in the womb, the very first sense it develops is touch. The sense of touch is also the one that lasts the longest-as we get older and our vision and hearing begins to weaken, touch still remains. Humans use their touch to protect themselves, to create emotional relationships with other people, and to experience pleasure. Can you imagine life without it
The sense of touch comes from a network of nerve endings and special touch receptors on the surface of the skin. While there are different kinds of touch receptors (感受器), they help us judge pressure, texture and vibrations (震动), They are located in our fingertips, palms, soles of our feet, face, lips and tongue.
When we touch something, the mechano—receptors perceive the touch and through a network of nerves, send signals to the brain. This informs the brain about the location of the touch, the amount of force used, and the speed at which it was used.
Several different techniques have been tried in the past to create such a robotic hand-using three fingers. But this latest design by SoMa copies the human hand. The gripper (夹具) is made up of flexible materials which grasp onto the thing based on its size and shape. Then air pressure is used to control the movement of the robotic fingers to pick objects safely and without causing damage.
The next step would be for the robot to judge how ripe the fruits and vegetables are, and apply pressure accordingly. Members of the research team are currently working on adding computerized vision to the robots, so that they can see what they are gripping.
Does all this mean robots can replace people According to Ocado, it helps improve productivity by removing some of the repetitive tasks done by humans.
28.What is focused on in the second paragraph
A.The important role of touch. B.The origin of touch.
C.The process of transporting touch. D.The disappearance of touch.
29.What is the special feature of the latest robots
A.They can see what they're taking hold of.
B.They can touch humans using three fingers.
C.They can grasp things according to their shapes and sizes.
D.They can tell whether the fruits and vegetables are ripe.
30.What does the last paragraph suggest
A.Robots will replace people sooner or later.
B.Humans can't do repetitive work in the future.
C.Humans have great difficulty in improving productivity.
D.Robots will be good helpers to humans in repetitive tasks.
31.What might be the best title for the text
A.A Robotic Hand for Scientific Research B.A Robot Made of Flexible Materials
C.A Sense of Touch for Robots D.A Robotic Hand with a Gentle Touch
D
Working out for 30 minutes every day “might not be enough” to counter the health issues created by long time sitting, according to a sweeping new study.
The new study, unlike the past ones that examined sitting and formal exercise separately, ignoring light activities, involved 3702 people to find out how those all affected people’s health indices(指数).
With the data collected, researchers characterized people by how they moved. The first group dutifully exercised for a half-hour and then sat, almost nonstop, for more than 10hours a day. Another group similarly worked out for 30 minutes and sat for long hours. But, in between, they rose often and took walks around, spending time in light activities like fetching another cup of coffee. The third group sat, uninterrupted, for up to 10 hours, but also collected an hour of exercise most days. The final group, which the researchers named “the movers,” exercised about an hour most days, while also moving lightly for about two hours more.
When the researchers cross-checked these groups against people’s current health data, the first group had the worst indices. On the contrary, the other groups were all better off and to about the same extent, with relatively improved blood sugar control and cholesterol(胆固醇) levels and about 8 percent less body fat than the first group.
“A single 30-minute, daily workout ‘might not be enough’ to reduce the downsides of long time sitting,” said Vahid Farrahi, the lead author of the new study.“In addition to a brisk(轻快的) workout, we need to move lightly and often, cleaning, taking the stairs, taking a walk in the halls or just not remaining still.”
32.How is the new study different from the previous ones
A.It examined sitting and exercise separately.
B.It proved that light activities were ignored.
C.It took light activities into consideration.
D.It suggested working out for a half-hour.
33.What do we know from the data in the new study
A.The first group spent a half-hour on light activities after long sitting.
B.The second group got similar improved health indices as the movers.
C.The third group collected an hour’s exercise during 10 hours’ sitting.
D.The movers got up every 30 minutes for formal exercise for an hour.
34.What light activity is suggested to go with formal exercise
A.Reading while sitting. B.Swimming in the pool.
C.Working out in the gym. D.Walking in the gym hall.
35.What can we infer from Vahid’s words
A.It’s better to exercise more often than half an hour every day.
B.Moving lightly and often is more useful than we have thought.
C.Working out harder and longer is better than just moving lightly.
D.A 30-minute workout has little help for long time sitting problems.

On a Friday evening in December, two weeks before Christmas, I lost my job. I hadn’t seen it coming. I was excited for the weekend, when my daughter, Kristil, then 12, and I planned to get our Christmas tree. Then I listened to my voicemail: “We’re sorry, but your work assignment has ended as of today.” My heart sank.
I wasn’t just a single parent; I was the only parent. My paycheck was survival. I did everything I could to give Kristil a good life, but there were some things my love couldn’t fix. The next day as we searched for our tree, I struggled to be cheerful as I eyed the Christmas tree prices.
“Is everything OK ” Kristil asked. “You seem worried.”
“I got some bad news yesterday,” I told her. “But it is OK, honey. Please select your favorite Christmas tree! Let’s take it home!” I didn’t want my daughter to discover the fact that I was unemployed. She started telling me a few months ago that she wanted a Christmas tree.
“Daddy, is it too expensive ” She pointed to a Christmas tree and said to me carefully.
“Absolutely not,” I told her. “Let’s take it home!”
I pretended to swipe my card and pay, and quietly made up my mind to set off on my moneymaking pursuits. Over the next week, I applied for jobs as my bank account grew smaller. There was no suitable position for me in this world. I felt as if the world was closing in on me.
The day before Christmas, I dropped Kristil in a wealthy gated community for a birthday party. I watched as she went in, surrounded by all the nice things we couldn’t afford. I went back home, frustrated.

66.Practicing Writing After Class
Writing is one of the English skills, so the students in our class are trying to improve it. Here are my findings. Most students often recite excellent compositions, which can help develop a sense of language. Some like writing diaries every day, while others sometimes write letters to foreign e-friends.
I think these are all good ways to improve English writing ability as long as they suit us. Whatever ways we choose, we all need to be careful. In my opinion, besides those ways, we can contribute regularly to the school English newspaper. While we practice writing, we should also listen, speak and read more, because all skills reinforce each other.
67.
Watching the Christmas tree and thinking about the up-coming Christmas, my heart sank to the bottom. The tree stood there, decorated with shining lights and colorful ornaments, but I couldn’t help but feel a sense of emptiness inside. How would I provide the joy and abundance that this festive season deserved for my daughter The weight of unemployment pressed down on me, casting a shadow over the holiday spirit. However, as I stared at the tree, its branches reaching towards the ceiling, I suddenly saw a card hanging on the Christmas tree.
Reading the card on the tree my daughter wrote, my eyes were filled with tears. She wrote, “Daddy, I love you The best gift is not the tree but you. No matter what difficulties you encounter, I believe you can always overcome them.” In that moment, I realized that no matter what challenges lay ahead, I would continue to persevere for Kristil’s sake, knowing that the greatest gift I could give her was my firm support and devotion. Together, we would find a way to make our Christmas meaningful and filled with warmth.
