音节是读音的基本单位，任 ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )何单词的读音，都可分解一个个音节朗读。一个元音可构成一个音节，如I;一个元音和一个或几个辅音音素也可以构成一个音节，如it,date等。辅音通常不能构成音节，但/m/、/n/、/l/，它们和辅音音素结合也可构成音节。它们构成的音节往往出现在词尾，一般是非重读音节，如listen、 apple。
2单音节词、双音节词及多音节词
英语中的音节是一个单词中最 ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )基本的部分，一个词可以有一个、两个、三个或更多的音节。由一个音节构成的词称为单音节词，由两个音节构成的词称为双音节词，由三个或更多的音节构成的词称为多音节词。那么音节是如何划分的呢？通常的说法是：在单词中有几个元音音素，就有几个音节。如：book含一个音节,mother含两个音节,finally含三个音节。一个音节通常由一个元音加上元音前面或后面的一个辅音组成。一个音节必须包含一个元音，但可能没有辅音。
注意：（1）当名词的结尾发/s/ ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ), /z/,/t /, / /时，变复数时，尾音常增加一个音节发成“/iz/”。如:bus为一个音节，其复数buses为两个音节。
