Welcome to senior high. Your great adventure is about to begin. It is a time when you can challenge yourself to improve. Some senior high students are invited to share their secrets and advice.
Wang Zanduo, 17, Hebei
One of the most important things for seniors is to learn to get along with others. We all know nobody is perfect. Getting along with others takes patience and understanding. You should always respect others’ differences and make new friends with people sharing common interests. It’s also a time to learn to keep your temper (脾气) under control. A hot temper cannot solve any problems, but patience can.
Sun Xiuyuan, 16, Shandong
To enjoy your high school life, I would say that you don’t want to stress yourself out. Senior years provide you with more chances to explore who you are and what you want to do in the future. I really enjoy doing extracurricular activities and community service. My experiences of joining a singing club and a computer programming club, as well as volunteering, have encouraged me to search for the unknown and find more fun and warmth in the world. Try things you are not familiar with, and remember, no matter what your talents are, you can always go beyond yourself.
Zhao Yuebei, 18, Hainan
It’s true that senior year means a lot more work. Don’t worry! A very useful study method is the mind map to help organize information. Creating your own system of knowledge is important. It plays a key role especially in the review stage of the final year. You can start by writing down a key concept (概念) in the center of a page, then add related points and ideas around it. I have benefited a lot from this method since it pushes me to review and organize all my knowledge.
1.According to Wang Zanduo, how can you get along well with others
A.Making efforts to become perfect. B.Being patient and understanding.
C.Trying to be different from others. D.Developing the same interest as others.
2.What does Sun Xiuyuan advise you to do
A.To put yourself under no stress. B.To do what you want to.
C.To become a helpful volunteer. D.To try some new things.
3.What is Zhao Yuebei talking about
A.Learning strategies. B.Some past experiences.
C.System of knowledge. D.High school’s final year.

You may not know a lot of people when you start senior high school. Maybe your friends from junior high school are going to a different senior high school. Even if you know other freshmen (—年级学生), you still feel anxious that you don't know any upperclassmen. How are you going to make friends among this sea of unknown faces
Most senior high schools hold the freshman orientation (迎新会) before school actually starts. It is helpful because you not only learn your way around the building but also get to meet some of your teachers and fellow freshmen. That way, when you show up on your first day of school, you may already recognize a few familiar faces.
When you talk to people at orientation, you'll probably find that a lot of them are feeling just like you are. They're all new to the school and don't know what to expect. Talking about a common concern with your classmates can help you develop friendships.
The work in senior high school is something freshmen are probably worried about. It builds on what you learned in junior high school, giving you a more advanced (高深的) knowledge of many subjects. So you may find you have more work to do or that it's a bit more challenging. If you ever find your work too difficult, teachers can give you extra help.
Senior high school also has more after-school activities than junior high school, such as clubs, music and theater groups and sports teams. This is a good time to explore your interests and try new things.
Junior high school taught you the basics of time management and social skills while providing you with a little extra support and guidance. Senior high school gives you the chance to learn how to be more independent and responsible.
4.How do the freshmen usually feel on their first day of senior high school
A.Proud. B.Nervous.
C.Excited. D.Curious.
5.What are freshmen probably worried about
A.The learning task. B.The ability to make friends.
C.The freshman orientation. D.The relationship with teachers.
6.What do after-school activities mainly help students to do
A.Develop friendships. B.Develop their interests.
C.Build up their strength. D.Improve their learning ability.
7.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.What you'll learn in senior high school.
B.What you learned in junior high school.
C.The difference between junior high school and senior high school.
D.The importance of being more independent and responsible.
C
At thirteen, I was diagnosed (诊断) with a kind of attention disorder. It made school difficult for me. When everyone else in the class was focusing on tasks, I could not.
In my first literature class, Mrs. Smith asked us to read a story and then write on it, all within 45 minutes. I raised my hand right away and said, ''Mrs. Smith, you see, the doctor said I have attention problems. I might not be able to do it. ''
She glanced down at me through her glasses, ''You are not different from your classmates, young man. '' I tried, but I didn’t finish the reading when the bell rang. I had to take it home.
In the quietness of my bedroom, the story suddenly all became clear to me. It was about a blind person, Lous Braile. He lived in a time when the blind couldn't get much education. But Louis didn't give up. Instead, he invented a reading system of raised dots (点), which opened up a whole new world of knowledge to the blind.
Wasn't I the ''blind'' in my class, being made to learn like the ''sighted'' students My thoughts, spilled out and my pen started to dance. I completed the task within 40 minutes. Indeed, I was not different from others; I just needed a quieter place. If Louis could find his way out of his problem, why should I ever give up
I didn't expect anything when I handed in my paper to Mrs. Smith, so it was quite a surprise when it came back to me the next day-with an ''A'' on it. At the bottom of the paper were these words, ''See what you can do when you keep trying ''
1.Why didn't the author finish the reading in class
A.Because he didn't like the teacher.
B.Because he was not fond of literature.
C.Because the class room was too noisy.
D.Because he got a kind of attention disorder.
2.What can we learn about Louis Braille from the passage
A.He couldn't see and read for the whole life.
B.He got a good education at school.
C.He made an invention which helps the blind.
D.He managed to cure his blindness
3.What's Mrs. Smith's attitude to the author in the classroom
A.She encouraged him. B.She looked down on him.
C.She sympathized(同情) him. D.She was angry with him.
4.What can we learn from the passage
A.Keep trying, and you can do it. B.Ways to overcome attention disorder.
C.How to be a great teacher. D.What should you do as a blind.
D
Often, high school students don't have a wide selection of courses from which they may choose. However, many online high schools offer a course list that includes almost everything from basics like math and science to extras like computer programming and instrument lessons. Many online high schools also offer students the chance to take advanced classes that may not be as readily available in some traditional schools.
An online high school student doesn't have to get up very early in the morning and rush out to school. Instead, he can get a reasonable amount of sleep and start his day on his preferred schedule. While online schools do have attendance requirements, an online school can be more flexible (灵活的). And, the online high school students don't have to worry about what to wear or what their classmates will say about how they look that day.
An online high school student needn't be worried about a class that is moving too quickly or too slowly for him. Likewise, he may be able to take advantage of course offerings that suit his own learning style. For example, some online high schools offer coursework that meets the needs of visual (视觉的) or auditory (听觉的) learners in addition to those who can learn from traditional schools.
Since online high school students don't need to spend time waiting for class to start and traveling to and from school, they may have more time to follow their hobbies. For example, if a student is training in dancing, he may have more time to practice. If another student is learning a musical instrument, he may have more time for that as well. Even part-time work and socializing may fit better into the life of a student taking advantage of the flexibility offered by an online school.
12.What's the difference between the traditional high school and the online high school
A.The range of classes to learn. B.Traditions of teaching.
C.Ways of selecting courses. D.Chances of learning basics.
13.What does an online school student need to do
A.Start his day early. B.Attend class according to rules.
C.Mind his appearance. D.Have a tight schedule based on interest.
14.How can an online school meet students' needs
A.By offering courses of different styles.
B.By listing the experiment results for remembering.
C.By slowing down the teaching pace.
D.By reducing the time of coursework.
15.What's the best title of the text
A.Traditional Schools or Online Schools B.Strengths of Traditional Schools
C.Importance of Online Schools D.Flexibility of Online Schools
