The carmaker Volvo announced this week that it would only make electric vehicles(车辆)in 2030. Volvo is the second largest car company to say it will stop making traditional internal combustion engines(传统内燃机). In January, American carmaker General Motors said it would only make electric vehicles in 2035.

In making the announcement, Volvo says it also plans to show a new eclectic vehicle. The company hopes that in four years, half of its sales around the world will come from electric vehicles. The other half will come from cars known as hybrid cars. Hybrid cars use mixed power of electric and traditional engine to move the vehicles.

Have you ever used shared bikes What do you think of this new “fashion” Shanghai is one of the first cities in China to have shared bikes. Shared bikes can now be found all over the city. They are popular, in fact, not only among adults but also among teens. On streets wide and narrow, there are some accidents involving shared bikes. These accidents warn us that shared bikes are not for everybody.
One of the most serious accidents took place in March. One Sunday afternoon, a boy was cycling on an ofo bike. He was hit by a bus and later died. The boy’s parents are not by his side. Besides, the boy was considered too young to ride a bike. He was only about 10 years old.
The good news is that Shanghai has been trying to regulate bike sharing. The regulations are still being discussed, but some of the rules have been decided upon. For example, only people aged between 12 and 70 can ride shared bikes. Users must be between 1.45 and 1.95 meters tall.
However, it could be hard to put these regulations into effect. Young children can still be seen riding ofo bikes. That’s because many ofo bikes use manual locks. If a user did not lock the bike properly after using it, anyone can ride it away. Ofo has developed electronic locks. However, it will take some time for the company to install the new locks on all of its bikes. I hope we can do more work to make sure the accident like this never happen again.

If you go to London, you can see a lot of buses and cars on the roads. You can also see many bikes because more people go out by bike. Why There are many reasons (原因). First, it is very cheap to buy a bike. And then people often need to wait for (等待) a bus for half an hour. Finally, when the bus comes, there are so many other buses and cars on the roads, so the bus moves very slowly.
I go to work by bus for about four years. I often arrive at work late and feel tired. One day, a friend of mine says, “I go to work by bike. Why don’t we go to work together ” “My bike is old. I leave it at my home for a long time. And there are so many buses and cars on the roads,” I answer. “Don’t be afraid. If you follow me and we ride slowly, you’ll be fine,” he says.
Later, I buy a new bike. We ride slowly, but we arrive at work quickly. It takes me about 40 minutes to go to work by bus, but only half an hour by bike! Now I love riding a bike. And I feel healthy. Many people think my idea is good and maybe you can see more bikes on the roads in London.

People have seen the colorful shared bikes (共享单车) in the city streets around China for two years. People can rent (租用) them with a smartphone app and then park anywhere they choose. To relieve (减少) traffic jams and air pollution, many cities have introduced bike-sharing services. But sometimes, dreams are not so perfect.
It is true that it is convenient for people to go out by shared bike. As shared bikes become more popular, problems showed up. According to news reports, users treated shared bikes badly. After people used the bikes, some of them just threw them onto streets and even into the ditches (水沟). Some people stole the bikes or locked them up in chains (链条). A month ago, the police fined(罚) a man in Shanghai 1,000 yuan, because he stole a shared bike.
Besides, the damage to the QR codes (二维码) on the bikes has brought huge losses to bike-sharing companies, like Mobike (摩拜单车). If the QR code is bad, people cannot use the bike anymore. It can take several hundred yuan for the company workers to find a lost bike and repair it. Mobike has 100 credit scores for each user. Once the score drops to below 80, bike rental (租金) will go up five yuan per 30 minutes.
However, punishment may not be the best way to stop shared bikes from being stolen or damaged. Bike-sharing services will work better only if people follow the rules and show respect for the bikes.

Have you ever seen a car without a driver It sounds crazy, but these computer-driven driverless cars will soon be filling roads near panies like Google and Tesla have been designing and testing these cars, and the technology is there.
So how The cars have sensors(感应器)all around which can find other cars and objects in the road. Road signs are read by cameras, and satellite navigation systems(卫星导航系统)are used so the car knows how to get where you want to go. All you have to do is type in the address! Finally, a central computer system takes in all the information that it receives from the sensors and cameras and works out when to speed up, stop and turn.
Sound like your idea of heaven(天堂) Sitting back, looking out of the windows and even watching a film or reading a book while ‘driving’ would be possible with this new technology. You wouldn’t have to worry about remembering directions to where you’re going. In addition, computers would also drive more safely than people — they would obey the rules and have quicker action times when in dangerous situations.
However, there are many drawbacks of driverless puters would have difficulties making ethical(道德的)decisions: if a child ran into the road, would the computer choose to hit the child or turn suddenly and potentially kill the car’s passengers Moreover, I personally find driving fun –I’d miss never driving a car myself. There would also be many other decisions to be made –should children, or drunk people, be allowed in a driverless car by themselves Or would there need to be a person with a driving license in the car at all times
I’m not certain I’d want a driverless car – but it’s only a matter of time before they’ll become more affordable and popular on our roads.

Driverless cars are coming. Such cars will make getting from one place to another safer and less stressful. They also could reduce pollution. But how should driverless cars deal with emergencies (紧急情况) People disagree on the answer. And that might put the brakes (刹车)on this technology, a new study concludes.
To understand the challenge, imagine a car that suddenly meets some walkers in the road. Even with braking, it’s too late to avoid a crash. So the car’s artificial intelligence (人工智能)must decide whether to swerve (急转弯). To save the walkers, should the car swerve off the road or swerve into busy traffic What if such choices would likely kill the car’s passengers
Researchers used online surveys to study people’s attitudes about such situations with driverless cars. People mostly agreed that driverless cars should be designed to protect the most people. But there is a problem. Those same surveyed people also want to protect passengers at all costs—even if the walkers would now end up dying.
“Driverless cars can completely change transportation”, says Iyad Rahwan. But, he adds, this new technology creates a moral problem that could slow its acceptance.
Makers of driverless cars are in a hard situation, Bonnefbn’s group warns. Most buyers would want their cars to be designed to protect themselves first. However, rules might one day instruct that cars must act for the greater good. That would mean saving the most people. But the scientists think rules like this could drive away buyers.
The expert Kurt Gray thinks that even if all driverless cars are designed to protect their passengers in emergencies, traffic accidents will decrease. Those cars might be dangerous to walkers on rare occasions. But they won’t speed, won’t drive drunk while driving, which would be a win for society.

Where do cars get their energy from For most cars, the answer is gasoline(petrol). But some cars use electricity. These cars have special motors that get power from batteries. In addition, there are some cars that have both an electric motor and a gasoline motor. These types of cars are called hybrid cars.
Electric cars are better than petrol cars in several ways. The biggest benefit is reduced pollution. In areas where there is a high percentage of electric cars there is less pollution. But electric cars still cause pollution. Remember that the electricity to power electric cars has to come from somewhere, which is most likely a power station. Unless these power stations run on solar or wind energy, they are most likely burning fuels to make electricity. The second benefit of electric cars is a reduction in the dependence on foreign oil. There are several countries that don’t want to rely on oil coming from other countries. Since electric cars can run on electricity from coal or nuclear power stations, there is less of a need to import oil.
Electric cars have some other problems as well. They are more expensive than normal cars. This is mostly due to the high cost of the batteries these cars need. Electric cars run on batteries, just like a mobile phone does: they need to be charged in special places. Another problem is that electric cars cannot travel as far as gas cars. Some people are afraid that the battery will run out of electricity before they reach their destination.
Despite (尽管) these problems, many people, including automobile industry experts, believe that the percentage of electric cars will increase in the future.

80.What do we know about the future of electric cars
A.Fewer people will buy them. B.Governments will support their use.
C.They may become more popular. D.They will get more expensive.
